let me clear a bit of confusion almost everyone will have regarding this method to find which number is a perfect sq. or not. This method only gives u the possibility of that number being a perfect square. For example, the number 160 has 0 as the unit place and the sum of all numbers is 7, so it should be a perfect square but it is not. Use this method in MCQ. If u have 145, 237, 4463 and 160 as option in a question which of these is a perfect square, u can just take out 237 and 4463 as a possibility of being the right ans as they dont have 0,1,4,5,6,9 as a unit digit so u just need to find out the square of just 145 and 160 using the actual method. Dont rely on this method to find the perfect sq. Its just to help u out

After trying the list of candidate ending numbers as a number itself (14,569), which also satisfies the given criteria, and discovering that's not a perfect prime either, I started to have my doubts.

just because 3321 satisfies all the conditions, we can't say 3321 is a perfect square. The conditions mentioned above are useful only to identify the non-perfect square.i.e.when the given number doesn't satisfy anyone of the said conditions.
