  • There was never a doubt, but now it's official! Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet has been selected by the players as an American League reserve at the 2024 All-Star Game to be played on July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
    Crochet, 25, is 6-6 with a 3.08 ERA (36 ER/105.1 IP), 23 walks, 146 strikeouts (12.47 per 9.0 IP) and a 0.97 WHIP over 19 starts this season, his first as a starter in the major leagues. Entering today’s games, he leads MLB in strikeouts, strikeout percentage (.348) and strikeouts per 9.0 IP and ranks among the leaders in WHIP (5th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (6th, 6.35) and opponents average (7th, .203).
    Some notable information regarding Crochet’s season to date and his first career All-Star selection:
    ➡️ Has joined RHP Jack McDowell (1991-93), LHP Chris Sale (2012-16) and LHP Carlos Rodón (2021) as pitchers selected by the White Sox in the first round to make the All-Star Team;
    ➡️ Is the first Sox starting pitcher to make the team since RHP Lance Lynn and Rodón in 2021 and first since Sale in 2012 to be selected in his first full season as a starter;
    ➡️ His 146 strikeouts are the third-highest total in franchise history before the All-Star Break behind Sale (157) in 2015 and Dylan Cease (150) in 2022 … his 12.52 strikeouts per 9.0 IP would break the franchise single-season mark of 12.28 set by Cease in 2021;
    ➡️ Is the only MLB pitcher since at least 1901 to record 145-plus strikeouts with 23 walks or less over his first 19 career starts;
    ➡️ Has struck out 10-plus six times in 2024 (career-high 13 on 6/13 at Seattle), tied with Tyler Glasnow for the most in MLB;
    ➡️ Is 5-2 with a 1.66 ERA (13 ER/70.2 IP), 99 strikeouts (12.61 per 9.0 IP), 0.91 WHIP and .193 (50-259) opponents average over his last 12 starts … leads all MLB pitchers during that span in ERA, SO/9.0 IP and OPS (.491) and ranks among the leaders in WHIP, SO/BB ratio (3rd, 7.07) and opponents average (5th);
    ➡️ Has allowed three runs or less in 13 straight starts since 4/29 (four scoreless), the longest streak by a Sox pitcher since Mark Buehrle went 18 in a row from 4/27-8/11/11;
    ➡️Was named AL Pitcher of the Month for June after going 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA (8 ER/37.2 IP), six walks and 56 strikeouts over six starts in June … became the first Sox pitcher to receive the award since Cease in June and July 2022;
    ➡️ Threw 24.0 consecutive scoreless IP from 5/4-27, the longest streak by a Sox pitcher in a single season since Jesse Crain (29.0) in 2013.

    Awesome! He's the obvious candidate for the Sox, and definitely deserves to be on that team.

    Congrats to Crochet but I am so mad than we traded burger and it backfired so hard today

      @DaVictonator You should look at the stats from what he's done in all of the 68 games he's played in this year, instead of focusing too much on the one game he got a big hit in today. The guy has a slash line of .216/.256/.356., and hasn't even been close to being good this season. His terrible glove at 3B forced a move to 1B, too, by the way.

      @@DaVictonator You're probably right about that unfortunately. I'm not trying to bash Burger either, he seems like a good dude who looked like one of the very few who actually hustled and wasn't just going through the motions before being traded last year. This could just be a down year on a bad team which he bounces back from. Last time I looked, the starting pitching prospect Miami sent over for Burger has an ERA right around 5.00 as a 25 year old in AA, so it's far from guaranteed that he even reaches the majors anyway.

      Seems Burger had an bad injury a little while ago and missed about a month and getting his timing back now, he did very well for Miami last year hitting .303 with .505 slugging. The guy we got for him, Jake Elder has not lived up to his promise and is in AA with over 5.00 ERA...But the trade might go down as the only time a Jake was traded for a Jake which is probably why the sox made the trade @@johnmatthew8710

    congrats to Garrett who has surprised with his stamina and control. We all knew he had good stuff but surprised he has good stuff for 100 pitches. Now then speaking of surprises did we notice Renoldo is also an all star, who would have thought that. So both Chris Sale and Lopez on the Braves and in the all star game.

    Great goin' Garrett.
    And while we are on the subject of White Sox pitching, why is Michael Kopech still the Sox closer?

    Make him player/manager. He had to convince the dopes running the team he was a starter. He did it despite the incompetence surrounding him!

    The next Chris Sale and Randy Johnson will be traded for some bums. He will be a top pitcher for at least 6 or 7 years. Will haunt the whitesox forever like Tatis

    Great, now Jerry won’t pay him and he’ll get dealt for some unproven minor leaguers 😞 What good is developing players that when they are ready to play we let them go!?!?!?! 🤷🏽 😒
