In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov presents an opening crash course on the Pirc Defense, which arises after the moves 1.e4 d6. The Pirc Defense offers many perks: it is a simple opening system, easy for beginners to learn, and provides powerful attacking opportunities for Black.
One of the main advantages of this opening is that Black can place their king to safety within 5-6 moves, thus avoiding the potential dangers of getting checkmated in the early stages. Additionally, the Pirc Defense is deceptive; it may appear that Black is making normal developmental moves, but they have underlying aggressive intentions.
Watch the full video lesson to learn the general opening theory, common responses and variations from White, including the Austrian Attack and the Classical Variation, as well as some middlegame attacking plans for Black.

I do this move all the time......
BUT I DO IT BECAUSE I SUCK AT PLAYING BLACK AND THIS WAY I DON'T KILLED EVERY SINGLE TIME. lol
The "C" in pirc is pronounced as an "S" as it was named after Vasja Pirc (who was Slovenian). Just sayin...
I registered for the masterclass, it's late today so I will start learning within the next couple of days.
The BEST video on the Pirc defense I've ever seen
very similar to kings indian
No similar, It's Kings India defence Only
It's called pirc if E4 d6
@@Wryyyyyyyyy21 Pirc Defence it is, and the King side Setup that is forming in the process that is King's Indian
@@rashikasharma0807 yeah they overlap each other after a few moves, but saying it is KID refusing og comments is just dubious
Kings Indian is primarily a king side attacking defense, so your similarities is flawed
finally u did a video on my favourite opening
12:30 Puzzle of the day: Black plays Nb3+ followed by QxQf2

I need to watch your videos like I’m actually going to school and study these teachings you give us
I liked to play the Pirc very much! Esp. because almost no one was prepared very well to it. In the beginning i had to suffer some losses, but after a while i had some nice wins with it. I liked its flexibility. Opponents went impatient and then played careless moves.
As from this video, playing against the Byrd variation is very difficult. Maybe you could do a video on that single variation for black?
Pronunciation of Slovenian surname Pirc is Peerts.
Thank you for great video.
Wouldn't call it a beginner friendly opening. Most beginners are going to get cooked in pirc when white pushes pawns on the king side
Simple response to the 150 attack is just to go c6 b5 and roll on the Queen side.
There is another attack called lions jaw(it's deadly)
You all sound like old Kunfu movies Masters😅😂
Beautiful illustration of Pirc defence 🎉🎉❤❤
Great content, thank you 👍
I first played the Pirc a couple months ago when I missclicked a Scandinavian 😭🤣 I learned some ideas afterwards because it seemed like a cool opening and now I throw it out occasionally, when I want some change. Cool video to learn more about it!
Lol the same thing happened to me, although I never learned the pirc. In the game I transposed it into a gambit with e4, d6, d4, e5, dxe5, nc6
Thanks for putting together this overview of the Pirc. I started playing it (along with KID) when I got back into chess a few years ago but I have to admit that I have a hard time with it. At lower levels opponents often don't know how to attack it but better players do, and I lost a lot of games with it. Still working on it though I am currently playing Scandinavian more often against e4. I feel more comfortable in those positions.
damn! thank goodness i was surfing through yt for pirc defense ,as in bullet n blitz it's a go to move cuz of easy positioning regardless of my opponent's move as Black it's somewhat easy for me now to set in at start of game but lot to go..! Thanks for this video😊
I love the Pirc, because I'm too lazy to learn a bunch of black openings!
Kinda like the Sicilian as well. Thanks Igor. I would love to see the old Benoni
HEY IGOR CAN YOU SHOW HOW TOCOUNTER THE SCANDINAVIAN DEFENCE MODERN VARIATION
What book on the Pirc would you recommend for a C-player?

Do you think you could make an anti caro kann without theory lesson?
I ised to play the pirc defense when i was an active junior chess player ❤
Have been playing this since I was 600-700 and now I'm 1222 rapid
Can you create a video about modern defennse.
hey i have question.. what if white plays Bd3 on move 4
at 5:41, why not take with the bishop instead of the queen?
Thanks now this defense will be my repertoire for black pieces
Please give me a video how play this line against English opening
At 11:40, why is a check in response to a check an illegal move? It protects their king while threatening the other.
This setup was very instructive and versatile. Liked it very much.
I told you it was a great opening sir
This is a powerful unbeatable Counterattack.😎
hey i have question.. what if white plays Bd3 on move 4
5:51 "juicy rook" 😂
Knight B3+ axb3 qxf2
Hi
just watching this video helps.... cool i know stuff . . . but then so do the other 19000 people who watched it. damn.
Wooow I'm a 1265 but I'm crushing 1300s+ with this Perc Opening, wooow thanks for this I'll definitely play this one religiously with black.😂
No one above 1500 will fall for this
kb3+, a1xb3, qxf2
Na4
I am 4th
Nb3+ wins the Queen
Nb3+ wins the queen
This is King's India Defence
kings *indian* defense
Nb3+ the black queen falls
ok, whatever he presents is llike will never ever happen. who da hell plays 05:05 , a 300elo?
The pirc defense is an unsound opening with tons of traps for white to destroy black easily , this line requires cooperation from the opponent lots of it
It's pronounced "Pirts" not "Pirk".
Wrong
@@scottmcgillis8076 It's named after Slovenian GM Vasja Pirc. Ask any Slovenian how to pronounce his surname.
First comment and like
This opening is trash if white plays e4 d4 f3 Be3 Qd2 0-0-0
I also play as white the way u mentioned it ;-). It supposedly was called 150 attack in England in middle of XX century, if I remember correctly. "One fifty" because their team coach told to play this way against those defensive one fifty ranking pirc players, and they were smashing them with the setup you mentioned.
This and king's defence are the most annoying bs ass opening
Thank you very much, sir🫡
