Koir Kebangsaan Malaysia - Pulangkan

'Pulangkan' is an arrangement I wrote for Koir Kebangsaan Malaysia for Kembara Teater & Muzikal 2013.
Written for 4-part mixed choir and piano, this arrangement starts with melody from Syair Raja Ali Haji of Tanjong Pinang to set the mood of the piece as this song was from movie 'Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam' (Maya Karin as the main cast) with main setting at the mentioned location. The melody is not written in the score as it was an impromptu idea by our beloved conductor, Mr Amri Zane.
The written arrangement starts with piano introduction, followed by 2 soprano solos, with an overtone of Camille Saint-Saens 'The Aquarium'. It then is followed by verses and chorus sung by the choir, before coming to an interlude part. There is a 'ghoulish' sensation at the end of the interlude (circa 5:07-5:08) as one could hear a non-human voice citing 'PULANGKAN' right before the chorus is repeated. For your information, THIS IS NOT PART OF THE PERFORMANCE and according to the singers, audience, and audio engineers, they DID hear this sound without knowing where it actually came from. The sound is suspected to have origin from 'ghoulish audience', Wallahualam.
I, however, was not too aware of this sound during the incident as I was playing the piano and the part I wrote for myself was technically demanding (pity me!)
This arrangement ends with a reminiscence of the opening section with same musical idea to create an atmosphere of despair.
