His 1988 Grammy winning album, "Don't Try This at Home," is still the acme-benchmark, not just for tenor sax, but for everything. Awesomeness.
In my opinion, Brecker was by far the best of his generation, and possibly ever. Such technique, feel, and phrasing, across all styles. Love his funky/fusion stuff the most. I had the pleasure of seeing him live many times, and attended a number of his clinics. Monster.
Ever? Um... there are some old records you might want to... Jesus... I can't even...
Right on man. Wish I was more than just a wee lad before he died :(
@@PerfectWoodGrain Um yes, jesus. In many respects he did things that no one else achieved or came even close.
I truly believe he was the best of his generation. Or the most inspiring
Mike himself acknowledged that Steve Grossman in his words "the real saxophone player"
Brecker at his best, live recordings are always so much better. His intenisty kills me.
RIP RIP Mr. Brecker - There will never be another you.
+Henry Wasserman Broke my heart when this guy died..So much music!!
Brecker is the baddest ever! From another planet. His playing is out of this world. Listening to this performance will make any problems dissolve. Amazing performance.
Michael Brecker - tenor saxophone; Joey Calderazzo - piano; James Genus - bass; Jeff "Tain" Watts.
Drums
Calderazzo absolutely crushes it in this show.
Who in my Jazz History class tryna clutch a paper rn

The man, the legend. What a loss. Your music will continue to live through the living. Love this concert. R.I.P my brother.
This concert is pure happiness
Nobody better Than Brecker . That Rhythm Section is Nuts . Jeff Tain , Love that Man
Nobody, you're absolutely right !!!
He was always on fire. Always.
Mike was truly amazing. If you take into account all the styles he was playing, he was king. There are thoose who are up there with him in the jazz scene (chris potter) but in general he was the best
Cannot get enough of this. A true master of music.
Music like this shows the true essence of live music
Yeah not this zoom stuff
He will definitely remain the best proof of extraterrestrial life !!
Totally amazing !!!!
I listen to Brecker to get hyped before gigs
POV: You’re watching this for MUS 114: Jazz History
Saw Michael breaker at sambucka jazz Cafe in Houston... In like 2003... Love live music..
Steve Jobs really burns
Michael has always been a favorite. I miss this guy
Thanks to Branford (who let me sit in), I actually got to play with 2 of the 3 rhythm section cats here (Joey and Jeff Tain). I knew MB a little bit.... The cat of cats...
Um dos gigantes da história do saxofone e do jazz.
I only had two autographs in my life one by allan holdsworth and on its back by the other music alien Mr Michael brecker...
I’m only watching this for my jazz history class essay and it’s due tonight 😞
lmao mines due tonight to
Thanks for sharing, dingus
Sir Mike!!!
Great great concert!! Thanks for uploading!
Mike was a genius.
matt knowles Mike was also one of the biggest Trane-heads. Literally quoting some of those 1963-1966 bootlegs. Trane Lives!
@@Robjoe757 Totally agree !!!His level was insane !!
This performance seems particularly significant. You can hear the seeds of influence over the next gen of torch bearers ... Seamus Blake, Joshua Redmond, Chris Potter. If you add Joel Frahm and Mark Turner it's amazing how many great tenor players are the same age.
So good! 🤓
Excellent.
Sei sempre un grande Mike!
outstanding
Yeahhh!! Great GIG! Masters!! Brecker is monster!!! Thank`s for the video.
Rick Beato, brought me here too
Brecker and Bob Berg are the best
You got good taste. I think same
Yeah !!!! i really like Bob Berg too !!! i totally agree with your comment !!
Was fortunate enough to see Mike live three times (once with Steps Ahead and twice with Randy and the BB band). Utter genius, sadly missed.
Excelente 👏👏👏

🤪 Ventriloquism at its best!
His wife looks pretty enthused about his playing.
Excelente
Oh yeah, burning
This period was the best for Joey.
Non ho parole J Coltrane M Brecker dopo di loro il nulla

Makes me feel like I can't play at all. An actual virtuoso. RIP Mike, miss you man.

Excepcional... impossível não ouvir tudo...

Обожаю! Второй Колтрейн.
Brecker, another level!!!

Hey, I played with two of these cats (Joey and Tain) with Branford!!!

Does anyone have counter numbers for when certain songs start and end for this performance?

Who’s here in 2022?
only me apparently
와.. 최고다
the video editor drank too much coffee
25:45 what the hell was that? Even Brecker himself smiles.
25:45
23:50
O
Piano is too loud i think. A bit annoying
I came for an incredible jazz player, but I stayed for the showmanship at 46:50
u
the sound engineering is horrible, but great gig :)
Truly horrible. It all sounds like electrical instruments... Like a rockconcert.
The intimacy of jazz is completely lost, with the band 10 feet higher, and 25 feet away form the audience.
So true- but you have to realize, the authorities are always right- they will explain it to you-
guy at 46:50
I love this guy! He's so into it, and why not!!?
The first tune is a never ending cycle of nonresolution.
ジェフワッツの衣装なに?w
What an experiment in sound by the PA techs! At certain parts in El Nino, it sounds experimental, or they thought they were part of the ensemble.....
Whooow !That piano is horribly detuned . Too bad !It must have been painful for Joey .
Каким надо быть уникумом чтобы дизлайкать это видео! ЛОЛ))
Super overrated in my opinion
Too much technic, not enough feeling...
I honestly suggest you listen with feeling. This is beyond technique. It's music brother. Repeated listening is recommended
Brecker is playing with so much balls wtf do you mean there's no feel
saxefoner - And he'd be right. Banana is nutritious! We can learn from our predecessors.
Try Kenny g,kirk wailham people like that, you either get this or do don't it's simple really
Get outta here
Awful. It doesn’t swing. 😒
Doesn’t swing? Are you out of your mind?
