  • We travel to Sedona Arizona to drive the offroad trails Outlaw Trail and Broken Arrow. Since we fluew in to Pheonix before driving to Sedona, we decided to rent a Jeep Wrangler. We meet up with our friend Josh from ‪@OverlandAZ‬ , who drives a Jeep Wrangler JKU. We're also joined by our good friends Beth and Jake who take a stock Dodge Ram truck out on the trails. We experience the beautiful Arizona sunsets, historical ruins, cultural quirkiness, and some of the most fun off road trails we've ever driven. Also, Kate does most of the hard driving in this video and becomes a much better driver by the end of Broken Arrow.

    As someone who does rock crawling, and overlanding, Kate Did awesome, but those trails didn't appear as challenging as I would have expected. Jeeps are born for that kind of terrain! Go easy on Kate. I didn't see a major danger factor. Yes, you need to pay attention, but I doubt 4wd was needed for most of it. Maybe going up the staircase. Great video though! Beautiful scenery!

    • @Venture2Roam
      @Venture2Roam  Před rokem +1

      Thank you so much!!! Great comment. The first trail was not challenging for a Jeep, it was mostly dirt with a few stair step wash outs. Broken Arrow is a significant trail though. The rock has reasonable grip, but when there's a layer dirt over it, it gets slick. But honestly, in a Jeep it was mostly mental. However, did you see the part where someone rolled the exact same Jeep on the same trail like two weeks after we left Sedona? To me, that shows that there is real danger on that trail..especially if you are experienced or didn't put the rig in 4WD. We had the advantage of having Josh with us, who'd run the trail before and was a great example of tire placement and speed on each obstacle...that made the trail much easier for us I think. IMO you should put the rig in 4WD as much as possible on trails like that...not just when you think things might get technical...it's not an emergency option, it's a traction and gearing option that really helps, even on easy stuff. Kate was learning how to control the wheels on dips and use the gas to bump up the back end, it takes some practice to get that feel..and Broken Arrow is an excellent training ground. She is a great driver..I was probably more nervous than she was 😂.

    • @jdshaw2751
      @jdshaw2751 Před rokem +1

      @Venture2Roam I agree with most of your point of view. The only difference is seat time and knowing your Jeep. I'm not saying you both didn't do a great job. I'm just saying that living in North Idaho and having experienced extreme off-roading, a point of view really does boil down to experience and seat time! You both did great, though. My only real suggestion is it sounded like you were a little panicked a couple times. The person spotting really needs to be calm and collected or it reverberates into the driver! Think of riding a horse bareback. That horse feels everything through you! So does a driver who's being spotted on a trail. If they can't see, they are driving from feel and guidance!

    • @Venture2Roam
      @Venture2Roam  Před rokem +1

      @@jdshaw2751 great points and point of view. Although I think you just compared Kate to a horse lol. I probably would have sounded less panicky if we had walkies..I was also trying to be loud so she could clearly hear me over the sound of the engine since she couldn't see my hand signals...but you're also right, since then I've done a few more rock crawling trails and am much more comfortable spotting. It's fun to learn new things thanks for your perspective.

    • @jdshaw2751
      @jdshaw2751 Před rokem

      @Venture2Roam I wasn't comparing Kate to a horse. I was using the horse as an example of the feeling transfered from the person giving direction. Lmao. A panicked rider will transfer the same way as a panicked spotter. Kate did great, and she broadened her experience! All in all, it was a great video with beautiful scenery!
