You are so kind and patient. My 24 year old son has autism. We drove an hour away to the stylist my husband had been going to since high school. It took 3 attempts just sitting in the chair before he would let her cut his hair. She retired 7 years ago. Hair cuts are still a challenge, but the foundation created by good experiences with a kind and patient stylist has made such a difference. Thank you for using your gift in this way. You are making a difference!

I have a firm belief that these children are victims at birth, victims of society, victims of the system and victims of the government. It is an uphill battle to get the benefits and therapies they need and deserve. We as parents of special needs children need to be informed and supported by each other when we accomplish getting them services and help anyone that is starting the process.

Ive had to cancel many hair appts bc my son freaks out. We found a guy that he likes so now he goes easier. I tried to pay him for the missed appts but he refused. Hes really calm and has a small space with only him. No other stimulus. So its good for now.

Mr. Vernon reads energy well. Mom was completely nervous and traumatized from recent haircut attempts. Mom kept her child engaged with words of praise and a promise dad would be proud. Mr. Vernon didn't verbally engage the child as much as he normally does. It all worked out well.
Yes. Mr. Vernon was letting mom take the lead. It all worked out well. I believe mom was nervous about the situation and being on camera. Let's not judge so harshly.

Wow he's wearing croc's. My son cannot tolerate the bumps. Any ideas on how to get nails and toenails clipped? That and breathing treatments. He can't stand the sound.

Mom was being a little much but when you have kids with autism trust me we can get on some ppls nerves. Vernon is amazing!!!!!! He kept things under control. mama is just being mama bear.
I think she's just anxious because past experiences have not been good, and the issue with the matting is a concern for her. I wouldn't judge her so harshly. We can only imagine what life is like prepping this child each morning. She just wants to be able to manage his hair without stressing herself or her son.
Children & pets tend to mimic our emotions. If mom is anxious, the child likely will be too.
I bet if a stylist would see children with special needs after normal hours, turn off music & any unnecessary lights l, & approach the child with the calm this sweet man did, it would go much more smoothly for everyone.
Some of you are being so judgemental of this mom, but I'm sure shes doing her best. It's HARD having children that need you to constantly help them navigate the world 😢
