Love your feeling. It would be interesting to hear your own way of improvising, but when it comes to Pat Metheny, everyone already expects those who cover his songs to do it as identical as possible. Th e music of PM has already become solemn, so nobody should not play other things other than what he has done, in some way. Not that serious, but I see in the comments of a large percentage of people that they expect an exact copy of some PM theme. I, too, have fallen into it. I cover a lot of PM.
I totally agree with you. that's one of the difficulties When you can cover Metheny songs ... each of his improvisations are like jewels and it's hard to get past him.
