We used to have a girl at school who had seizures. She would just randomly scream "freezing cold" over and over again for about a minute. It really scared me. I always presumed it was a rare form of epilepsy, because at the beginning of 5th and 6th grade year, when she was in my class, the teacher would read to us a comic book about epilepsy and how it works, featuring superheroes, circa the start of the year. In 7th grade, her seizures were getting worse. However, the summer before 8th grade, she had brain surgery and she didn't have seizures anymore. Around the end of the year, we actually danced together at an 8th grade field trip to Beggars Pizza for a dance party a few weeks prior to graduation. She gave me her phone number and I gave her mine. One of the first things she texted me was if I had a disorder (but not in a mean way). I told her that I suffer from ADD, and she told me she has, or had, tuberous sclerosis complex, which formed a brain tumor. That was what caused her seizures, not epilepsy. All along, she had a brain tumor, not epilepsy. Over the summer before 8th grade, she had it removed. We haven't talked in a while. Maybe I'll consider getting back in touch with her.
This story resonates with me a lot. I suffered a seizure in my childhood but I don't remember much about it, and 6 days before my 15th birthday I suffered another seizure in a Maths exam. The last thing I remember was sitting down at my desk only to end up in the medical room as I was confused and disorientated because I didn't know what happened to me. I suffered three more seizures, one at school during Art class and two more at home. In the new year I suffered another seizure at school and on my brother's birthday on May 5th I had one at home, it happened upstairs, but I don't remember, although I do remember that I was planning to go downstairs when it happened. The last seizure I had was in March 2017 ten days after my 20th birthday, I was attending extra English classes on a Thursday morning and I was sat at the computer next to the door, I think about 15-20 minutes later I suffered a seizure. Thankfully I haven't suffered anymore seizures, but just like Lily I suffer from absence seizures and I take Keppra regularly.
My friend Lily is 24, she has Prader-Willi Syndrome but she doesn’t have epilepsy. She is one of my high school friends since I was 16 years old, she likes to hang out with other people and she would be sad when she feels left out
If someone has seizures typically they are prescribed medication like Keppra (Leviteracetam). If the prescribed dose cannot control the seizures the dose is usually increased. This shows that the medication Lily was prescribed is not effective and the dose should be increased since she still has 2 to 3 seizures a day even while taking the medication. However anti-seizure medications have side effects. Also, people feel tired after seizures because of the physical effort required to violently convulse due to loss of body control.
One of the guys at my school who I've been friends with since third grade also goes through a series of seizures.....I pray he and other seizure sufferers will live a good life and recover
I also have epilepsy and have medication to control it, but I will have seizures every once in a while. The funny thing is, I can actually know when a seizure is coming. I always get the metal taste and smell in the nose and mouth. That is the first sign when I know it is coming
I can relate to this one because I used to have seizures when I was a small child but it’s wasn’t an epileptic seizure it was a non epileptic seizure sometimes seizures isn’t always epileptic. Epileptic seizures are usually caused by an electrical into the brain and non epilepsy occurs when the brain isn’t electrical to the brain.
I have Grand mal Seizures im on anti seizure medicine to keep the brain activity under control the reason why I still have them is because of a brain tumor that was removed back in high school the neurologist said i can outgrow the seizures there is also another risk of being diagnosed with brain cancer if another tumor comes back and becomes cancerous that's why i have MRI scans every 2 years is to make sure brain cancer is not present in my brain
I have a disability too learning autism and I got stressed alot in 9th grade it's feels like I have seizures when my body feels like electric shock my arms and legs but I don't have seizures I did almost pass out 5 times 2 of them I didn't have blurry vision and 3 of them I have blurry vision when I was overheating and feel like going to throw up but didn't I quit having it 1 year ago but I can start having it again I was okay last one I walked backwards and almost fall I sit down the chair to prevent me hit my head I think I passed out one time or more I don't remember and some of my friends have seizures it's scary
This is the exact same thing that happened to me I have epilepsy too and I had my first seizure outside of my elementary school when we were talking about stuff outside in the morning and a teacher called 911 and I rode in a ambulance I was in the hospital for almost 3 days to research why I had my first seizure. My first seizure was October 27th, 2011 and I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in December 2011. I didn't pass my driver's test and I can't drive because I still have mini seizures so I could get into a car accident
My best friend Brianna Marble, has had seizures before too.... And... I wish i could have done something to help her more... Ik this comment is going to have replies saying "It's not your fault" and ik it's not, but sometimes I feel like it was...
She is not the only one I have seizures to o and i kept getting them when I look at flashing lights then I can’t stop them even though i am prescribed seizure medicine
Well I think that it’s hard to explain but Epilepsy is electrical to the brain but it got the the point where the brain doesn’t functioning properly so that’s how epilepsy works.
