- Towering underwater structures of the coast of Qatar are home to oilworkers above the waves. Beneath is a gathering place for giant fish, a wonder of the world's oceans: Whale sharks, the largest known extant fish species.
This documentary follows the story of the Research trip undertaken by the Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre (MO-RTC) in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment's Whale Shark Research Project.
All the footage was captured on the Red Epic and, as such, has captured the majestic nature of these mysterious ocean wanderers.

really hope Qatar is serious about these conservation efforts. love it, wish we had more commitment like this.
The Marine Biologist from Quatar, was hilarious when he said"we go and ask each one their name", I laughed out loud.
I bet he's a hoot to be around.
They are so absolutely amazing. One day I hope I will meet a whale shark.
Me too Dainius Diciunas
This is a good documentary with nice music and i like the way some scenes getting changed to arts throughout the video. It's a brilliant idea of Simon to measure the Whale sharks. I have never been to Qatar, my dad had visited there in the 90s or 80s.
This is the longest Mersk Oil commercial I have seen.
Fishslap 33 exactly!👌🏻
At least there is a silver lining 💛
Fishslap 33 I couldn’t have said it better
Wonderful story! It's great to see Qatar putting all those petrodollars to good use for the long term success of the society.
Damn Oceans amazes me and scares the shit out of me at the same time
To me, whale sharks are a vibe.
Great video.. Its so nice that the qatar people respect these Majestic Harmless Giants of ocean during their visits.. Here in India also the Whale Sharks visit Gujarat shoreline and they are equally respected by the fishermen who let go the whalesharks accidentally caught. Also enough awareness is created and programmes are promoted to evoke the sense of love and respect towards these marvellous creatures and to protect and conserve these Wonderful Guests of the ocean.
Pritham Srini love your respect but we are the Guests n their ocean. We need to stop polluting their water and stop over fishing it, we have a Lot to relearn!
I have a 1,500 word essay about Whale Sharks next month for uni. Honestly never seen/heard of these creatures until the essay so thank you for this documentary.
Thank you for the upload
Amazing species: The whale sharks: World's largest fish #documentary #whaleshark
That was amazing. Thanks for mentioning it... it wasn't how I pictured that would be!
nice video... im so happy to watch it....
I'm a future marine biologist

Reaaallly amazing!! ♥ Love it!!~ Whale Sharks! Hope to learn more about them ^_^
And people are killing these for their fins.
Keep up the good work on whale sharks. Well fone!!!
Nice documentary, love to watched it
I love whale sharks aside from a cat they are my fave animal!
me to. Whale sharks are my second fav animal
The ocean scares me so much.
ali scottt It used to scare me until I went snorkeling in the Bahamas. Its not so scary once you are in the water. It was the most amazing thing. Due to that experience, it has now spurred me on to get my scuba diving license.
Michael Pitts is the coolest videographer I have ever met
Is this a commercial for Qatar's oil industry?
My favorite 🌊🐳💕🤞🏾☺️!!
Wait until Finding Dory comes out, and kids start asking for them in their aquariums.
True there is going to be one in the movie! Im so excited
Check out the qatarwhalesharkproject website to learn more about these amazing creatures aggregating of the coast of Qatar in the hundreds. We appreciate your comments!
The QWSR project
Thank You Quatar ... Have to get more views for it ...
I got a couple things to say. I'm almost certain that every whale shark has bumped into something before, thus bounderies. Also I think I can imagine what they've seen in the 80-100 years of their life. A LOT of blue. More blue than you or me could ever imagine.
Awsome
did the guy in the beginning say a whale shark will live for 1800 or 1900 years??? I heard only about 150
But aren‘t they annoyed by the acoustic signal?
Whale sharks are on philippines too
anything about underwater life is pretty amazing and sad what were doing to everything as the human race. ..
There is a brilliant video on youtube of a whale shark sucking fish out of a hole in a trawler net.
It's thicc boy season get u one
This was the most boring doco on whale sharks! Barely any sighting and mostly above water scientists 👎
yeeh, not enough whale shark!
well, it's pretty informative because this oil company on the coast of Qatar just started noticing whale sharks around it and having compassionate scientists stepping in and gathering info to help preserve the endangered species......it's hard work too, just like those Jacques Cousteau videos, they show a lot of the work being done and it's not easy.
I have just shared!!! Kathy :: kirkscubagear
WHALE SHARKS ARE THE SHIT
Beautiful documentary! If any viewers would like to know more about encountering the beautiful whale sharks, please check this out: aquaworld.com.mx/en/tours/swim-with-the-whale-sharks/
Since I did ask this question I find it hard to answer yours. How would I know how dumb one should be to be as dumb as myself? If I knew that I would know exactly how dumb I am and therefor would have to be reasonably intelligent. So it's impossible for me to answer your first question. The second one should be answered by the fact that I replied to your comment.
Nice greenwashing.
