I haven't cooked with turmeric before but I have eaten it in some recipes.
One amazing experience I have had was trying new moisturizer for my face which contained turmeric and it made my skin soooo amazing after the first use!!! My skin never looked so beautiful and radiant! I know some Indian cultures use this on their skin as well before wedding ceremonies!

I love turmeric! Personally I have never found the fresh stuff but I use the dried kind to make turmeric milk tea, spicy potato wedges, I add it to any curry or masala recipe, and even been known to whip up a face mask with turmeric, a little bentonite clay, and some distilled water. Adding a smidgen of pure aloe vera gel is a great idea, too. In fact, now that I think of it, a bit of pure aloe vera gel and some ground turmeric can make a great little acne spot treatment and keeps well in the fridge. I learned these and several other recipes from the lovely Ela Gale here on CZcams.

I knew it was an anti-inflammatory but I didn't know about the other properties. A friend of mine sprained her wrist and used turmeric to bring down the swelling. She said she could feel it working and it really helped her. I use it my curries and also to make yellow rice. Thanks for the 101!

Sandy: I take turmeric the way you do. I put powdered Turmeric ( but I'm going to Whole Foods to buy organic fresh turmeric like yours. I bought a food scraper and I will buy a peeling knife like yours) in warm water with black pepper, ginger, cayenne pepper, drop of either olive, coconut, or avocado oil, with a 1/8 of salt if I drink more than 1 quart of water.
Sandy: sometimes I put turmeric & the above ingredients into either green, peppermint, spearmint, chamomile or other herbal teas. Thank you for your video, I subscribed, liked & rang your bell!

Thank you so much for talking about turmeric! I'm not sure how I would cook without turmeric, ginger, garlic, and rosemary. I've been making my teas like that, with an added bag of herbal tea, for a long time and I think that with some Manuka honey added, it's the only good part of being sick. Fresh turmeric is also wonderful in a hearty pot of turkey and quinoa chili.

It also makes a good recipe for spicy Parmesan baked potato fries. Just cut the potatoes in wedges after you peel & rinse them. I usually mix my Parmesan, panko, cayenne pepper, & turmeric powder together. And toss the potatoes in them. Spray a oven pan with olive oil and lay the potatoes on it a inch apart. But if you have kids and want to make this dish for the family just toss potatoes in the panko flour and Parmesan. And just use turmeric & cayenne pepper in some mayo or ranch and it can be a spicy dip for those who like spicy food and those that don't can just eat it with ketchup or plain mayo or ranch. 🤗

I have been using tumeric on a daily basis for about 6 months now. I took an empty spice shaker and made my own mix of salt black pepper garlic powder onion powder and powdered tumeric. I use this as an all purpose seasoning. I bought a very large jar of powdered tumeric so that even when I ran out of garlic powder and onion powder I still had salt pepper and tumeric. I think from now on I"m not going to be without it if I can help it... Oh and by the way , I rarely have a cold!

I also like to use it in my rice, quinoa, roasted cauliflower, potato and soup dishes. I have a hard time finding the actual root but I use the powder every day in my breakfast protein shake. I add 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and a pinch of black pepper!

Turmeric is a quintessential spice/herb in Indian cuisine. It's use can be seen in our daily Dhals and Currys to homemade concoctions. It is an essential ingredient in almost all Ayurvedic preparations. Also, one can make face packs that give a nice glow to the skin, which is why we have a Haldi ( turmeric) ceremony two days before a wedding, where the bride is smeared with Turmeric which ensures a much needed wedding glow! :)
