    I remember in the early 2000s when we could walk out purlins.every connection was done sitting on the column.they would put the whole stack between the eave strut and 1st purlin clip and off you went.now its all out of baskets.its still a rush but a lot more safety in mind now on the prefab buildings

    Hey man great to see a video of some work being done in Seattle. On week 3 of my preapprenticeship down at the Tukwila HQ and it's been a he'll of a time. I get dispatched Nov. 5th and am looking forward to starting work. Hopefully I'll see you on a site sometime

    Done some of this when I was doing this before I loved it I was learning n getting best too I could weld but being able to do things like that was learning even welding spot welds and learning how to work as a ironworker

    My dad was a conector out of local 597 he was kind of a fucking cowboy tho he never tied off unless the safety people were around he said that was shit was annoying it got in the way and slowed him down things were probably a little different back then though 🤣 im going to start the apprenticeship program this year I can't wait to get up there and get to work be safe brother 💯

      100% tie off does suck and does slow one down but you can't put a price on your life. I get the old timers didn't learn being tied off so it was an annoyance. Worked with a guy that never wanted to tie off. I would always tell him... i mean wtf you're wearing a harness! I attended his funeral. He fell and was working alone. No telling how long he was there before someone seen him. I couldn't even imagine just laying there thinking.

    6:35 How do you determine that the amount of torque is perfect ? In my case i would often brake the bolts (not like those bolts) or not enough tighten and it would get loose with time.

      A 3/4" A325 structural bolt should be between 250-425ft pounds. There are also TC bolts, which are pulled and snapped by a TC gun, which are used with load indicator washers. When the washer is flattened, it has been torqued.

I’m glad I couldn’t go to college because I had no choice but to go into skilled trades, but some kids are so damn smart then they go to college for something dumb. Tell them about structural engineering, and welding, and construction all great skilled trades!

      It’s a maintenance facility for military equipment, we built three of them on this project. 160’ span on the rafters and 600’ long

      Vincent Quattrocchi you should google “DTI washers”, also called “direct torque indicators”. Which have tabs that depress when the bolt is torqued to the correct spec, they require a typical flat washer ok between the nut and dti to allow for even pressure throughout the surface of the dti. Then when you’re done researching that, you should google “not talking trash when you don’t know wtf you’re talking about.”

      JPORHINT one washer is a “DTI”(direct torque indicator), it has tabs that compress upon tensioning, indicating that the desired tension has been reached

      Ken Ratte this are general pins that keep the nut from coming off. They are usually used in a situation where vibration may be an issue

      I never went to “boilermaker school”, if that’s even a thing? I am a second generation UNION ironworker and there is ZERO back and fourth for me. I embrace the safety, get paid great money to do a fun job and come home to my family, it’s pretty awesome. I guess for those who failed actual school, they “just float bak n forth” without ever using any punctuation.       It’s called getting the rigging off and there is no other way and it’s easier to walk beams than get in and out of a basket with a harness on and have a hand man with your hardware ready for you than going back to it everytime and wasting time

      No tc bolts on pre fab buildings its a big garadge 11/4 bigest bolt then 3/4 threw perlims 5/6 days and all big iron is up on most good work except the insalation and u need ironworkers and tin knockers

      There different.ive built hundreds of them.sometimes they face the peak,sometimes they face the outside.depends on the building.least that's my experience with them.
