      Herbert Planter i have a large san pedro garden in Christchurch,New Zealand. I started with one pedro in "93" now i have 200. Kept cutting and growing them, san pedro are a power plant,and full of knowledge. Every one should have at least one san pedro, one becomes 200+ eventually

      Very nice :) I started with a single trichocereus bridgesii monstrose (among others, but a personal fav...) about 10 years ago and now I have dozens and dozens of plants. Some people say they are slow, but disagree, as far as TBM is concerned, they are prolific!

Blue mytrle, san pedro, trichocereus.. thats about as in depth as i get. I like cacti, but dont really care what specific one it is. If its cool looking, then i like it haha

    The cacti at 10:00 looks to me like what we call in Australia 'Super Pedro' or 'Super Ped' - it's a very large version of San Pedro so the size matches, the lack of depht in the ridges matches and the main point for me is the way the shades of green colour swirls down the like like when paint is mixed.

    6:45 My vote is peruvianus x Bridgesii, i have seen a LOT of this cross with a torch like body and bridgesii influenced spines and that deep sky blue...
    but a few seconds later when you cammed upwards i caught a view of the notching of the aerioles and it made me think a non PC pachanoi x bridgesii

    Night blooming Cereus Peruvianas need water! They are not like regular cacti. One CZcams channel took cuttings, hardened them off for 3 days, dipped in hormone then watered every 3 days. These cacti also do better in dabbled shade. They will turn yellow in too much sun same as my tricocereus cacti.

    I love your collection. I also wonder if my run of the mill home depot pachanoi isn't actually that. Mine grew extremely fast and got really skinny towards the tops I have two in a shared pot. Anyway the spines seem bigger than they should etc, I've been told not to use only that to identify but dang how do you really know! This has been super helpful.

    • @hughgavin5367

      @@tristinchristenson6349 I had a macrogonus at one point that sorta fattened up just above the original etiolation, and then began to etiolate again. Hahahha. Some people cut off the etiolated part, and other times it will sort of plump back up.

    • @hughgavin5367
      @hughgavin5367 Před 5 lety +1

      I would at least give it the opportunity.... if you feel like cutting it then you could do that. I'm by no means an expert, but from some of the cacti forums I've read this is the conclusion I've come to and it seems etiolation is difficult to correct. I wonder if an etiolated tip would make a good tip cutting? Maybe? Sorry I'm not more help, but it just definitely sounded etiolated to me.

    • @tristinchristenson6349
      @tristinchristenson6349 Před 5 lety

      @@hughgavin5367 this is great info, I have never had this issue before. I definitely hope it can be corrected, but totally devastating if I have to chop it. Otherwise it healthy as can be and sits in a South facing window. However I live in Southern Wyoming and it can't be outside right now. Good point on it maybe being a decent cutting..... That's still makes me sad. I have two and they are only about 12 inches tall.

    Great collection there! Do you, or can you recommend a site, ever help people determine the ID of a cactus and what its ailment would be? We are renting a place with some awesome cactus around but one in particular - looks like a San Pedro - is drying badly from the tops. Like dead wood dried. Should the dead part get cut off, long enough to cut off dead part and replant remainder? Or what do I do to save this cactus? I have searched internet and when I saw your video, I hope you might help. Thanks!

I have a cactus I suppose it's (Echinopsis pachanoi) or a (peruvianus kk242) because it is realy fat it almost loses the star shape but not on the last 10 cm of the top like the one you showed 9:44 and it have very little and nice separated spines 3 in each spot.
