Bud Cort called this the "spiritual sequel" to Harold and Maude, hence the similar title, Ted and Venus. Sure the characters are different, but it has a quirky quality one can't deny. Also, the Ted character has many of Harold's traits. It's quite an underrated film. Certainly not for everyone, but many of Cort's films have that quality to them.

anerley123 I also just noticed that the sunset showing the silhouettes of the characters walking looks so much like the sunset scene in Harold and Maude when they were gazing at the 'glorious birds'.
actually, i believe it was critics who deemed it that. he also wanted to call the film "love in venice" as a callback to "death in venice", but marketers decided on ted and venus to callback to harold and maude instead
@@lordgodkingbufu2158 Though he DOES dedicate the film to Colin Higgins, Hal Ashby and Ruth Gordon in the end credits and we all know what they have in common...

Edgar, I thought you were a computer. Nice to see you. I just found out about that near fatal car crash he had back in 1979. When I read stuff like that, I get quite moved. I can picture it all in my head. Wow. He directed and co wrote this movie. He said the concept was based on a real life story he read. I have yet to see this whole film. He said he wanted the movie title to be called "Love in Venice" instead.
