Iowa Community Steps Up After Teachers Lose Home In Fire

- Des Moines educators Jennifer and Dean, and their daughter Faith, recently lost their home to a devastating fire, but thanks to acts of kindness from their students, co-workers and Iowa community, they're on their way to rebuilding. The family reacts to an emotional video of thanks from their former students, and receives $25,000 from @KiddeFireSafetyUS to help build their new dream home!

Mrs. Ghelf is currently my teacher and let me tell you! She is truly an amazing person. Honestly!!!! I don’t think I know a better teacher than her. She is doing so great through this and knows what’s most important right now is to help her family. Most people wouldn’t know that but Jennifer Ghelf does! And that’s what’s so special about her. She thinks of others before herself. So Mrs. Ghelf, if you are reading this thank you for everything that you do for me and the students at our school and I am so happy God has brought you into my life!

I had Mrs.Ghelf when I was in middle school, I am currently in college and she was a very key part of my life. She was a truly kind person who helped me through my social anxiety and always pushed me to go further with my capabilities. Although she did force some solos and group songs onto me she always was there to help and talk to. I also have so many key memories from her, and she would throw markers (not hard) when I got distracted, and would always keep us on track. She is truly one of the best teachers, and I don’t know her husband personally but I know how loving of a family they are. So they are great people, and I really hope more good things befall them.

My heart goes out to them. Lost everything in a house fire in 2015. It's probably the most devastating thing I've ever been through in my life. Thankfully my husband and I survived, but we lost our 4 dogs and everything else....
I was raised in a small town and our family's house burned twice. Our community and surrounding communities are what helped us get back on our feet both times. God bless good-hearted people!
I am 64 years old and am from a rural community. We are all family. When someone needs something we are there. My Grandson is 5 and was born with #HLHS. Our community has been there for our family. He has been in the hospital the last 9 months. And as always our community is there to help. There is nothing better than living in a small town.
I have personally experienced the open arms and hearts of a community in a time of need...there aren't enough words to express the grattitude in your own heart. God bless them
