Sanford and Son is one of the greatest shows ever created.
It was based on a UK sitcom called Steptoe and Son.
@@alanchristie368 - I don't care what it's based on, there is only one Sanford and Son. Cheers
Sanford and Son is incredible!
Absolutely 💯
My middle name is Lamont and my mom got the name from the show.
In this show, Redd Foxx's biggest bit was grabbing his chest and having a fake heart attack, which he did in plenty of Sanford & Son episodes. Redd Foxx ironically died of a heart attack in 1991 on the set of another TV show. The cast mates thought he was doing his famous Sanford & Son routine until they realized it was real. :(
Jesus...that's brutal. Boy who cried wolf.
He's finally with Elizabeth. R.I.P
"I'm coming to join you, honey" 😊🙏🏼
Your source I’ve never heard of it
@@uknowwhothehelliare7821 He did die of a heart attack.
Redd Foxx died in 1991 and was a huge inspiration to comics like Richard Pryor, Dick Gregory Eddie Murphy and just about any insult, dirty comic regardless of race to this day. His albums today I believe come with a parental warning and I know my parents would kill me for listening to them. I did it anyway. To bad this video didn't have one of Fred's legendary heart attacks
He started the whole comedy on records vibe during the Civil rights movement with 50 of them I think. Dick Gregory was the man. He was the first to do comedy in front of a white audience in New york at playboy in front of a southern crowd. First on t.v. then he turned activist.
When he died everyone on the set assumed he was joking around, because he clutched his chest as if he was playing around. He wasn't. Poetic and tragic.
*TOO bad
He also got Flip Wilson his big break.BTW, I wish this video included the show’s memorable theme song.
Redd died in '91, but the son, Demond Wilson is still alive. Asian guy was Pat Morita, Mr. Miyagi from "The Karate Kid". He was also in another big 70's sitcom, "Happy Days".
Wow, I didn't notice the Asian guy was indeed Mr. Miyagi lol, awesome.
@@MoeDavinci Yes, and he was one of Redds best friends in real life and he has said in interviews that when he came to LA he would've been homeless if it wasn't for Redd putting money in his pocket.
Wow damn I’m slow I didn’t know acho was mr. miyagi all this time I’ve been watching this show for years wow I didn’t know damn that’s crazy
@@MoeDavinci me too I didn’t notice that I’ve watched this show hella times
Being old enough to have watched all three of those shows mentioned when they were released, I knew instantly who he was! 😂
The way old black people talk so openly about race is hilarious to me. I'm not black but growing up in NY I grew up with a lot of old aunties and grandpas who talked like this haha I miss this show.
They took no crap for sure.
LaWanda Page played Aunt Esther, and was a regular part of Red's stage act as well. They played enemies in show business but in real life were very fond of each other
That's why they chemistry was so good.
They were also childhood friends from St. Louis, Mo.
She used to be a highly paid burlesque dancer.
Both Redd and Ms. Page grew up in the same St. Louis neighborhood.

I loved Grady… popping in every once in a while.
Grady's laugh always got me!
Grady had his own sitcom for a minute, too. It was called "Grady", of course.
"Shady" Grady
He also taught drama in college, how cool would that have been to have him as a teacher?!
These were the golden days of unabashed, insulting, in your face comedy. The more offensive, the better. I really think we'd all be better off if we could just laugh at each other and ourselves like this more today, instead of being offended so easily.
Older Black people from that time act like this still lmao. My great grandmother was the same way. They dealt with so much racism they hated everyone 😂
Mine too it was funny to me
Truly
Lmaooooo this is such a fact
Super Facts!! 😂😂
my grandpa and great uncle used to act just like him, mean as hell lol
Aunt Esther was the best. I loved when she called Fred "You old fish-eyed fool!" or "Watch it! You little beady-eyed old fool!" or just the simple classic "Watch it Sucka!"
She had some of the best zingers. My Grandpa would be laughing almost out of his chair every time.
Her interplay with Grady was hilarious too
Bryan Ceja:. Exactly. Whoever edited this video should have let you hear Aunt Esther's retorts. It would have been great if they could have shown Aunt Esther from that last scene when the three of them were in jail. That may have been Aunt Esther at her greatest.
My favorite line from her was, "Woodrow you better put that bottle down before I unscrew your wrist".
My grandpa loved this show. We still use a lot of the funny lines in our house. Can't believe they didn't have a "I'm coming Elizabeth!" in the video!
@@tm2bee
Lol I always remember Donkey saying that line in one of the Shrek movies as a kid; I never knew it was from Sanford & Son 😂
Sanford and Son was on from 1972-1977 great show this time had such classics like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good times and all dealt with the social issues of the times with comedy. But today these shows never could be made.
A childhood favorite! I've never seen my dad (a stern, no nonsense, old school construction worker back then) laugh as much, or as hard as when we would watch Sanford and Son. Redd Foxx's prime standup days were before my time, but I've heard some of his old stuff, and believe me, he was as funny as he was raunchy! He died in the early 90s.
There are some really good shows on nowadays but I will always love to watch many of the old ones. Sanford and Son, Carol Burnett Show and the Jeffersons just can’t be beat.
I'm disappointed there were none of his fake heart attacks. Those were hilarious. 😅
And ironically thats exactly how he died.
@@hifijohn Yeah. He actually had a heart attack on the set of a show and they thought he was joking. 😪
YES!!! I ❤ Sanford & Son! One of the best shows, right up there with All In The Family! Back when no got their panties in a bunch over jokes.
Not entirely accurate but ok
@@SE-gs6gd you mad about their opinion?
@@SE-gs6gd
It's entirely accurate.
Stop trolling ya dummy!😂
@@kimson305 first of all name calling is unnecessary. Don't think I deserved that but hey its the internet. And SAS was very controversial in its time least of which was because of Redd given his style of comedy. So folks absolutely got their panties in a bunch. That was my point
“Sanford and son” is the only sitcom I still watch every time I fall on reruns on tv. Despite being made 15+ years before I was born, it’s the only one that still interests me.
My mother will be 92 on the 15 of July born in Mississippi 1930 she still is this way the funniest is her great grandchildren they don’t get her ..this woman from the Great Depression 🤣 her whole everything is built different
No doubt! My grandma passed last summer at the ripe old age of 103. That generation went through A LOT.
The actress whose Aunt Esther is one of the funniest women in TV. Her delivery is awesome, and I wish they had more of her lines in this compilation. I wonder if she was ever a comedienne or went on tour with some.
She were that how Red Foxx knew her from working with her in Chicago and ask the producer to put her in the show
Redd Foxx and her were friends since they were kids
@@joejesswein9740 yes they met in chicago
I read that she had the nastiest act lol
I'm not sure if it was the words or the content or whatever. Probably both. I hear she was hilarious.
She had a part in the movie "FRIDAY",with ice cube
Can't believe y'all doing Redd. I grew up on this show along with The Jeffersons, Good Times, and Mel's Diner.
OH LORD...Yall take the cake on this one lol....LOVE this show and never seen it on a reaction channel lol
One of the funniest thing from this show Fred told Esther to dip her face in dough and make gorilla biscuits...
Hah. Used to watch episodes/reruns as a child with my dad. We loved it.
The guy at the end was a friend of Lamont’s named “Rollo!” He’s a recurring character that Fred refuses to not insult! He always accuses him of either just getting out of jail or stealing from Fred and will definitely be heading back! Nothing matches Fred and Aunt Ester, but Fred didn’t want Rollo coming into his house/store and “casing” the place! There’s many funny exchanges between the two. Redd Foxx was very funny!
Remember - before there was Dave Chappelle - there was Eddie Murphy - and before Eddie Murphy - there was Richard Pryor - and before Richard Pryor - there was Redd Foxx. He was a legend. Great choice for a reaction - I'm 53 and i used to watch this show when i was a young boy in the mid-70's. Thanks for reacting to this. Daz - you deserve to win this one with your gutsy choice.
Esther vs Fred was instant comedy 😂😂 whenever they went at it, it was pure gold 😂💯 Fred didn't like Esther, and Esther wasn't putting up with Fred's shenanigans🤣🤣
Paul Mooney was a writer on some of the episodes. ✌🏻😻
I loved that show! You could forget your troubles cause you were laughing so hard.
This show is one of the funniest to ever hit TV screens ! I used to watch it with my mom when I was as young as 9 years old back in the 70s! I’m 58 now and still watching the reruns. Red Foxx was one of the funniest comedians ever. My mom used to play his X rated records, she would always send us kids outside to play 😆 He died from a heart attack while taping another sitcom he was starring in back in the early 90s.
Aunt Esther is an icon! I remember watching this show growing up with my family and it's one of my favorite childhood memories. oh yeah, are you going to reaction to part 2 of DC Curry? It is hilarious😊
2nd this
Fellas! Redd Foxx was the first famous "dirty comedian". He started in the '50s and is a *Bonafide Comedy Legend*. He was part of the roots of African American comedy and culture. LEGEND
Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, Wayans.. all pay homage and recognize Redd Foxx as a Godfather of Comedy right up there with Lenny Bruce, Carlin, Cosby, Dick Gregory, & Pryor himself.
Richard Pryor, Paul Moody and Gary Shandling were all writers for Sanford and Son
You guys should definitely check out Redd Foxx’s stand up bits “Wash your ass” and “Wrong Pills” absolute classics!
I used to watch reruns of this show everyday growing up. The first few seasons were the best ones. It is easily one of my top 5 favorite sitcoms of all time.
You blokes might want to check out All In the Family.
The liver on the face bit was gold. 😂
Thank you for this blokes!!!! Please more of Sandford and Son. Red Fox had me in tears when I would watch this in the 80's
Red Foxx died years ago of a heart attack. Ironically enough he used to act like he was going to have a heart attack all the time on the show when something extra dramatic happened. What he acted all those years ended up being his real cause of death .
The Asian guy is Pat Morita… aka Mr. Miyagi (Karate Kid)
Loved this show remember watching reruns of it back in the day. "I'm coming elisabeth"
his stand up is legendary hope you guys give it a chance and he had the first black comedy clubs that gave legends like Richard Pryor his start and Paul Mooney who was Richards writer wrote for the show along with Richard Pryor
MY DEAR GRANDMOTHER USED TO WATCH THIS PROGRAM WITH ME BACK IN THE 1970s AND LAUGH AND SAY "OH, THAT CRAZY OLD FRED SANFORD!" Miss you still, Grandma!
Dave and Mike have an uphill struggle to beat Daz on this one! You hit at the heart of American's with this classic sit-com.
He was real close friends with Malcom X when they were younger in gangs together
They worked the same job. Never heard nothing bout a gang.
@@KelzKelzMy grandpa was friends with them. Red Fox was a pimp.
This was good but there are a lot funnier scenes than those from the show. Sanford and Son is golden!
was born in the 90s but I grew up watching this, Good Times, Jeffersons etc. classic tv shows from 40 years ago, that I still watch from time to time💯
My lady and I are literally in the middle of season 4 right now! I grew up with this show in the late 70s and early 80s (often watching it with my father) and it remains one of my all time favorites!
When I was 12 my folks went on a trip to NYC, and they passed Red Foxx on the street. My folks said, He had a white woman on both arms, and a fur coat that dragged the ground. Granted my folks are Southerners, and it was the early 80's.
My all time favorite comment is Fred telling Aunt Esther that he can stick her head in some dough and make gorilla cookies and also there's an episode that at the end Fred accidently snatches Aunt Esther's wig off her head and Lamont laughing and they left it in the episode>
It wasn't an accident, and it also wasn't scripted. Redd did it to get a reaction and everyone's reaction was priceless.
This show was/is so funny and amazing. I so miss the times you could say anything and no one got butt hurt and offended.
I don't racism isn't cool
I can’t remember the last time I saw a Sanford and Son show! Unfortunately, Redd Fox passed away here in Las Vegas back in 1991. He was larger than life, quite the character.
Oh man this is a classic, hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Office Blokes React:. There was another famous character actor in those scenes. Noriyuk "Pat" Morita was the one who played the Asian guy Achoo. His most famous roll was as Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid movie franchise. He and Redd Foxx were great friends. Redd Foxx had a lot of his friends on that show. Pat Morita being Japanese-American can do a spot on vocal impression of Redd Foxx. I mean he sounds just like Foxx. To me its funny that a Japanese-American can do the best impression of an African-American knowing that both came from such different ethnic backgrounds and accents. 🤣
Yes, he has been dead for some time. RIP. He was a top flight nightclub comedian before this.
Bro I’m 28 and my pops had me watching this a kid 😂😂😂✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
I can't believe this was on daytime. Miss me some Red Fox. Hilarious.
In daytime on reruns. It was on at night originally.
Redd Foxx is deceased, he passed away in 1991 of a heart attack, he was a trail blazer just like Flip Wilson. Because of the debt owed to the IRS, Eddie Murphy paid for his funeral as he owed some 3 million plus. Foxx was known for his raunchy edgy comedic style of comedy. The TV series, Sandford and son plays today in reruns and the jokes still hit home. The characters on the show were funny, from Bubba, Grady, Aunt Esther, Rollo, Julio,Ah chew, officer Smitty & Hoppy. The show is a classic.
I have not laughed so hard in a while. That was hilarious!
Ester:
"Fred, you're a messy fool."
Fred:
"And you're a sessy pool."
This debuted in 1972. Shows like this, All In the Family and others could NEVER get on the air today.
What a classic. The Asian guy, Pat Morita, was actually a good friend of Redd Foxx and there are videos here on CZcams where he talks about how wonderful Redd Fox was and how he was broke and Redd said that he would put him in his show and they came up with this character named Ah Chu - he said when he went to Harlem for the first time some kids ran up to him and went "Ain't you Sneeze! Ain't you Sneeze!" And he had no idea what they were talking about until it dawned on him - what does a sneeze sound like?? Achoo. So that was the slang name for him in the 'hood. It's a really wonderful interview in which he does a SPOT ON imitation of Redd Fox and he tells how generous and kind Redd was in real life. Incidentally, I believe he was called "Redd" because of his light complexion. Black people have various categories for light and dark skin. Light complexions may sometimes be called light skinned, yellow, high yellow, or red. And if someone is really high yellow with "good" hair they'll just be "she look white or he look white." This was a fantastic show. It still is, actually. Here's the Pat Morita Clip if you want to watch it: Pat Morita discusses his mentor Redd Foxx czcams.com/video/490TsUYe5f4/video.html Pat Morita discusses playing Ah Chew on "Sanford and Son" czcams.com/video/I_v9na7dRcs/video.html
I used to watch this in 7th grade and it was one of my favorite shows at the time lol good times
Sanford and Son early episodes were the funniest. If Redd Foxx was alive today he would be a hundred, as he was born in 1922. Redd Foxx was an ICON.
This show was on during the Civil rights movement. Comedians will say it's the first real black sitcom on network television which opened the door to so much more. It is based on Steptoe & Son.
I don't know if I've ever clicked on one of your videos so fast. Sanford and Son was the BEST!! My dad and I could watch for hours. Love me some Redd Foxx. He and Esther (LaWanda Page) were actually best-friends. Fish eye fool!
Grew up watching this with my mom, this just made me miss Pat Morita as well, always loved seeing him pop up in stuff.
I remember watching this on Saturday nights I think. The scenes w Fred and Grady Skinner scenes had me rollin even as a youngster.
Aunt Esther was played by LaWanda Page. Her stand up comedy was hysterical. It was definitely blue material, though not as blue as Redd Foxx’s.
I grew up watching this show. Funny as hell.
All in the family and Sanford and Son were two shows that could never be written for today's sensitive audiences - even though they are timeless. Redd Foxx lived in Las Vegas for awhile until the IRS seized his house, inside contents, and cars in 1989. He died bankrupt and owing the IRS over 3mil.
And the Jeffersons
Absolute classic. Watched this all the time as a kid. (23 now). Still holds up !
I cannot describe to you guys how much my family loved (and still loves) Sanford and Son. Pure laughter from beginning to end on every episode!
My Uncle Bill, who is no longer with our family, loved Redd Foxx and Sanford and Son. We all were dummies to him thanks to Fred Sanford. Back in the 70s, we had a comedy record in my house by Redd Foxx called You Gotta Wash Your Ass. Us kids loved playing it and I wish I had it today 😪. It was a classic. Nice job guys!
Funniest line is Fred told Esther " I could take your face, press it some dough and make gorilla cookies'
Damn, I forgot how funny that show was. Haven't watched it in probably 30 years.
I watched this all the time as a kid and it's so sad that a lot of mellenials wouldn't be able to take these jokes... Laughter is the best medicine ❤
"Listen, ping-pong.""Pardon me pal, please take your hat off in my house."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awww I love this show I’m going to rewatch it ; so funny
Rip Redd Foxx
"Pardon me, pal. Please take your hat off in my house."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Red Foxx is an American icon, and Sanford and Son is a classic. I grew up watching it as a child in the 70s.
In that hospital scene Fred had Old Milwaukee beers under the blanket, lol!
This is back in the 70s when Indigenous American tv got big way before the government forced the title African American on us great show
We created the word. Learn your history.
Govt didn’t do that. People did. It was a progression from Afro-American (70s).
It was pushed on us by Jessie Jackson, govt, and media. Great comedy show
I remember alot of us were all for African American because we thought it was better to identify with our homeland and heritage than just a color. At first they even gave us a choice AA or Black on forms and documents. Eventually AA won over in popularity. Now alot of younger African Americans are saying they want to go back to Black. We don’t know what we want. Smh
Classic '70's sitcom. It was based on the UK's 'Steptoe and Son.'
I remember watching this with my parents when I was a child. I had no idea at the time that this comedy was very edgy. It would NEVER fly these days but it was very funny back in the day. I have wonderful memories watching it with my parents, who are now 89 (dad) and 85 (mom). They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary! So blessed to still have them in my life. Thank you so much for bringing back some wonderful memories for me as a child (even though watching it now makes me cringe!) Lol!!
Sanford and son is one of my favorite shows ever lol
The restaurant episode is one of my favorite episodes of Sandford and Son 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Pleasantly surprised of reacting to this show. Great job guys 👍. More please 😁.
John Elroy Sanford (December 9, 1922 - October 11, 1991), better known by his stage name Redd Foxx, was an American stand-up comedian and actor. Foxx gained success with his raunchy nightclub acts during the civil rights movement. Also his Tv series Sanford & Son
Jamie Foxx took that last name in honor of Redd Foxx.
When I was a kid, my family used to watch this show and laugh hard. Great pick!
The woman Redd Foxx kept calling ugly was actress Lewanda Page. She played his sister-in-law on the show. They were a huge part of the show’s success. Redd and Lewanda were lifelong friends from childhood. She had no acting experience prior to this show, but had been doing standup comedy for decades. Redd had suggested her for the show, and the producers were hesitant to hire her. Redd Foxx threatened to back out of doing the show, so they gave in. Good thing he had the wisdom to know she would be great!
The best part is Fred(Redd Foxx) and Esther(Lawanda Page) were best friends growing up and when they didnt want her on the show anymore Redd Foxx told the executives he wouldnt do the show without her. Check out her stand up. Shes great
He always did everything with such a straight face too.
Yes! I love Sanford and Son so much. The theme song, by the great Quincy Jones, is my ringtone. When I get a text its Fred calling out "You Big Dummy!". Its funny when I'm at the grocery store and I get a text. Anyone near me is highly confused.
Fred told Esther I can dip your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies😅😂
This show was a family favorite back in the day. Thanks for doing this one!
What is so nice about comedies during the 60's and 70's, most of them were performed in front of a live audience.
American subscriber here. Great channel. Redd Foxx died in 1990 of a heart attack. He quit Sanford and Son in 1977 because he wanted more money. He got Lawanda Page(Aunt Esther) the job on S&S because they were close friends. It ran from 1972 to 1977.Great Show.
"Listen, ping-pong"🤣🤣🤣🤣. R.I.P. Pat Morita and Redd Foxx.
Sanford & Son aired from 1972 to 1977. Redd Foxx passed away in 1991 at the age of 69. He was actually 49 years old when he started playing the character "Fred Sanford" (who was suppose to be 65).
I miss the old days. I Grow up watching all these shows. Can’t get away with this now❤❤❤❤
My dad used to watch this show when he was young, he introduced me to it and I can't stop laughing ever since
Classic
Sanford and son and All in the family was crazy funny no hold bar great comedy
I love this show! The freedom of making fun of others without them having a hissy fit. Plus I love Dr. Caldwell.
This is my second favorite show of all time. All in the Family is the best ever
Grew up on TV, this was of the best shows ever from my youth! 💕
