    🐶🐶 WOOF WOOF! I put so much effort into researching this video, and there's a chance it could still be complete ass 🤣 However, The Sandman is now on Netflix, but between the comics, the tie-ins, the spin-offs... what's the best way to collect it? 🤔

    This couldn’t have come at a better time, I was just about to get some. Also, the series on Netflix is amazing I knew nothing about The Sandman but thoroughly enjoyed the show.

    Great video! I’ve read the complete original series once every year since 90’s. This is why I never understood how confusing the amount of spin-offs and different looking reprints can be for new reader. This is a very helpful video. I have only owned trade paperbags. Some of them are 1st prints and paper is turning yellow😄

    Sandman Mystery Theatre isn't exactly related to Neil Gaiman's Sandman. It's about Wesley Dodds, the original noir character

    • @Akstergrind
      @Akstergrind Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah, the fact that "Sandman" is in the title does not a Sandman spin-off make. Then again, that'd be obvious to anyone who'd actually bothered to read it. Kudos to this chap for his well put-together video, but done the wrong way around, surely? Wouldn't it be better to read, comprehend and enjoy a book prior to making a CZcams How To...video about it? 😂

      @@Akstergrindwelll, technically Mystery Theater is related to the Neil Gainman Sandman and is a “spin-off”. We say this because even though Dodds has been around since the 30s, Neil Gainman’s Series reimagined him in like three panels. And the mystery theater was birthed out of that reimagining. and While Neil Gainman himself does not consider the series itself canon to his sandman works, he does consider the crossover, Midnight Theater, canon(he wrote it). At the end of the day mystery theater was birthed out of the sandman comics, crossover, and don’t step on eachothers toes when they are separate.

    I have the deluxe editions and I love them you can also get Sandman Overture which you can find for about £10 and Death in deluxe edition, my only problem with them is all 5 Sandman Deluxe Editions have the audible logo on it.

      Is the paper quality on the Deluxe edition the same as the trade paperback? Some said the paper quality on the deluxe edition wasn't that good. Thx.

    Having read Sandman Mystery Theatre it its entirety, there is very little connection to Sandman proper. There was Sandman Midnight Theatre, which was a single issue one-shot crossover between the two series. SMT was a pulp hero series along the lines of The Shadow. It is very good though, and is probably one of my favorite comics. I have all my singles in four custom hardcover binds for the whole series. I also have The Dreaming in three custom hardcovers and that series is probably not as good, although I still like it.
    As far as Sandman proper, I have the absolute editions. They’re very nice. It doesn’t contain Sandman Mystery Theatre #1 like you say in the video. It does, however, contain Sandman MIDNIGHT Theatre, the crossover one-shot mentioned above.

    Great video as always! Just a couple of things, the Omnibus and Absolute Editions will be back in stock soon at Organic Priced Books. They recently released a video that said that. I think they also mentioned that they’d be caring the slipcase set of the trades, but I’m not positive. Send a message to OPB they always respond. I love this series so the Absolutes were a must buy for me. 😍👍🏼

    Great video Marcus, this will definitely be helpful for some! I bought the 10 main trade paperbacks all second hand through ebay last year, that's a great way to read it, but if you're trying to get matching editions then just make sure you pay attention to what you're buying! I ended up buying a couple of them twice just so that I could get matching spines 😅

    Just get the 7 Absolute volumes (1-5, Death and Overture) and you’re done. The best stuff in the best format.
    Everything else is just other (non Gaiman) stuff, although Lucifer is a great series and well deserving of its own Absolute versions.

    So Ive gotten about 4 years in collecting the sandman series now and it’s def been hard going the single issue route. I’m 6 issues away from 75 and it’s been really fun but I’ve also collected the tpb and…well after collecting the entire collection in tpb it’s been way pricier doing single issues 😂 but you can find them around for cheap sometimes just takes a lot of looking ngl that’s half the fun tho

    I went deluxe. I find the format more manageable than the larger volumes and more durable than paperback. I really hope Lucifer is reissued in that format soon.

    Just wondering, should I read some hellblazer before or after sandman? I am referring to the Garth Ennis version I have on my shelf. I bought it a while ago, and Sandman is currently in transit. I have some time to kill before I delve in. Sidenote: I am really enjoying your channel, thanks for the videos.

    I'm torn on getting any hardcover editions of this, because I generally don't like recoloring. I saw the video from Near Mint Condition comparing the original to the new colors, and I have to say that I kinda prefer the older look. The problem is that I'm a book snob who usually prefers oversized hardcover collected editions, lol.

    • @KidxChaos01
      @KidxChaos01 Před rokem +1

      Yeah man I’ve always kept to the original coloring I don’t think there’s anything wrong with touching up on stuff but they really completely recolored it for some reason 🤷‍♂️

    Ive read almost all sandman spinoffs and I own the whole orignal series/ overture/ and the 2018 dreaming, what I would say is read the orignal series then overture, then you can basiclly read anything else. I found a copy of Vertigo Jam with a sandman episoad I had never read and I love it. I'm looking for Sandman orignal dreaming series is a bit hard to find and witchcraft which you can all find online versions of. All the death books are in 1 death book which i highly reccommend. You can find most sandman universe at local comic shops, but some are there for a weird inflated price but that are a great read. I think sandman The Dreaming from 2018 is my favorire spin offs. I would reccommend collecting the main series, and just looking in wherever sells comics. Many online versions are overpriced unless your rich or a super dedicated collector (which I am not I'm just a big fan of the series)
    If your looking for the most cost effictive orignal sandman collection is the larger new print paperbacks they avrage about 35 usd while the smaller new print paperbacks come for 20 dollars usd and have less chapters, plus the larger new paperbacks have bonus storys. and sometimes barns n nobles will have some prints of The Sandman universe but some are very hard to find online for a good price if your broke like me. My suggustion is just read online first and if you Really Really like it buy it. Thats what I did for The New Dreaming books (and basiclly almost every sandman spin off). You can find online verions on sketchy sites but they work. yeah but my reccomendation is collect the orignal series and whatever you can find from local sellers that where you'll get the most luck. If yall want more tips where to find stuff just ask in the comment lol.

      oh if you can find the onnubises on sale they are so awsome I have the first 2 and am waiting on the third one + sidenote some people leave out the 11th book (if we're talking about the new small paperback print for 20usd not the 35usd one) but that and Overture and abslote must reads and I conciderd it one of the biggest must reads of the series. it explains so much about how this universe works
