Why is regernation reaction as feasible as the softening reaction. Considering, both are reversible reactions of one another, one ion must have more affinity towards resin than the another. In my understanding, Na+ will have lesser affinity than Ca2+ and Mg2+. Please clarify.

Hello. Will it be possible to remove TDS from Softener? If water TDS is 800 and hardness is 250... what will happen if want hardness to a level of 50..will TDS also be removed from water meanwhile in softener.
