Um… no. Filoni and/or Disney created neither the first nor the best female Jedi or Sith.

Many of the female characters in Legends were amongst the best characters in all of Star Wars. The female characters in Disney Star Wars are some of the worst characters in all of fiction.

Exactly! It’s also nothing to do with them being strong - people like Mara, Jaina, Lumiya and others are some of the best of their eras, and Abeloth quite literally has godlike power. I don’t see anyone complaining about such characters when they’re actually good.

@@VulKus117 A lot the Legends female characters were strong but they weren't completely flawless like the characters Disney are constantly writing. Nobody can relate to a character like Rey who is an almost perfect being without having to work for it and rarely fails in any major way.

@@slowjoe0485 Yes, definitely. Most of the best ones are defined by the trials they faced, either by how they overcame them or succumbed to them. This makes for an actual compelling journey. They also actually act like people and not mouthpieces for ideologies like the thinly veiled political analogues Disney writes.

@@VulKus117 Agreed, it extends to not just to Star Wars but a lot of other IPs. The modern way of writing female characters (and often just characters in general) is the blueprint on how not to write compelling characters.

@@slowjoe0485 Yup. Sadly, it’s by design, as they’re instead meant to serve as walking talking endorsements for ‘correct-think’. Truly a shame how many once beloved classic IPs have been utterly hollowed out, propagandised and pumped with the soulless corporate sludge that produces atrocities like the Star Wars Sequel ‘trilogy’, Indiana Jones 5, the various abominable Doctor Who and Star Trek shows, and many many more.

ALL facts. I wanted Aayla Secura to be a main member in a Star Wars production ever since I played her in 'Star Wars: Battlefront II', as well as wanting Mara Jade to be in the movies and/or shows.
Asajj Ventress is equal to Darth Maul to me.
Maris Brood in Force Unleashed was scary/cool to me, and I wanted more from her.
So glad to see more Ahsoka after Clone Wars.
Sabine was so cool to me in Rebels.
I'm digging the 'Ahsoka' series, so far but it could use more pep in it's step. Probably some other things I'll analyze better later, but I'm having a mostly good time with the show.
Me finding these women attractive is simply a bonus. I also find Rey attractive (because Daisy Ridley, of course), but the writing for her, to be honest, is the actual misogyny for how little she was allowed to do to develop, let alone as a new lead character. Daisy was the best part as she did the best with what she could. Nevertheless, modern SW needs to realize we love women, and men, with character layers. Not simply as "Jump in and do some cool stuff".

    • @VulKus117
      @VulKus117  Před 10 měsíci +3

      Thanks man!
Yeah, Ventress in Legends is actually insane, not so much with the force but as a duellist - she has fought Mace Windu and not only survived, but actually gave him a challenge! She also put up much better fights against Skywalker and Kenobi, as well as other legends like Plo Koon. In Disney Canon, she just feels like a weak lackey who occasionally has bursts of power (mostly just for plot convenience) and she (like almost everyone in TCW) was massively nerfed. I have to say that if we’re talking about both characters in Disney Canon, Maul would stomp her IMO.
Maris Brood, underrated for sure! Didn’t really include much in the way of TFU in this but, she is certainly cool with those Tonfa sabers haha!
I do like Ahsoka to a degree, but I consider her one of (if not the) most overrated characters in the franchise, especially by Filoni fans. She’s been focussed on to the detriment of much more important and worthwhile characters and stories so many times, and it’s like Filoni has a fetish for putting her in at this point. She is also massively overhyped in terms of her power level, and people thinking she could beat Vader and Maul in fair fights where neither are holding back are off their rocker. Even their Disney canon versions (which to be fair in Vader’s case isn’t even a nerf).
Not a fan of Sabine at all to be honest lol
Not watched Ahsoka yet, but I don’t think it’ll be my thing 🤣

Do tell me how Mara Jade is a terribly written character. Let’s compare her to Rey, shall we?
      Mara Jade:
      • Actually trains for years under Vader, Sidious and the NJO including Luke
      • Has many setbacks and losses and doesn’t win every fight
      • Actually has development and a meaningful character arc where she completely changes
      • Is redeemed to the light in a way that makes sense
      • Actually has a relationship with Luke that develops over time and doesn’t just happen because the plot says so
      • Her powers evolve and improve over time, and she’s far from invincible - she might have lost to Caedus thanks to his dirty tactics, but he was also out-fencing her and more powerful in the force.
      Meanwhile, Rey:
      • Has zero training of any worth yet can beat masters
      • Can use the force to master level with no training and no effort
      • Gets everything given to her with no struggle and is not punished for her mistakes
      • Easily defeats Kylo Ren multiple times, the Praetorian guards, and even puts Luke on the ground
      • Becomes so powerful she can defeat Darth Sidious and somehow channels all of the power of the Jedi
      • Has the ability to heal even fatal wounds instantly with absolutely no effort or toll taken on her, including lightsaber stabs through the stomach
      • Takes the name ‘Skywalker’ with absolutely no prompt or reasonably earning it
I do know how to read actually my guy, and I’ve done plenty of research. Maybe provide some actual citations or evidence for literally ANY of your moronic claims before you act so arrogantly towards me.

    • @VulKus117

Filoni could learn from the whole ‘not taking the attention away from Anakin’ business. Like, over half of Season 7 was just crap because it either all focussed on Ahsoka or featured Anakin and the boys doing banal uninteresting crap. It’s not like we might want to see what our favourite characters are doing before and around the events that were about to change (and destroy) their lives, right? I dunno why Disney are always pulling this, it’s like when moon-head thought that cutting AWAY from Luke asking “where’s Han?” - resulting in us never seeing his reaction - was a good idea…

There were so many important and powerful women in the EU, Empress Teta, Jori Daragon, Nomi Sunrider, Mirax Terrik Horn, Ysanne Isard, Queen Mother Ta'Chuume, Jaina Solo Fel, so many and this is but the tiniest fraction. It's funny because in some ways the women were more pivotal and powerful in this saga than the men, i mean Empress Teta united the Koros system, and on the back of the unification war still led her armies and navy in the defense of the Republic against Naga Sadow and his Sith army, Nomi Sunrider went from just a force sensitive housewife whose husband was murdered in front of her, to one of the most powerful jedi of her age even using the extremely rare and powerful ability to force sever on her former colleague and love interest Ulic qel Droma who had fallen to the darkside. Jori daragon was the twin of Gav daragon both Hyperspace explorers who stumbled upon korriban and were manipulated by the Sith, only she didn't succumb to the darkness like her brother. Princess/Queen Qira the heiress of the Onderonian monarchy, a blood line tainted by a Sith lord, she feigned capture by the Beast lords of Onderon ( light side outcasts and general dissidents of the regime) so that she could marry one of their top chiefs and bring about peace and unity to their world. Lastly Jaina Solo Fel, my favorite character after her Uncle Luke Skywalker, not only was she a bridge between the often pragmatic Anakin Solo, and the esoteric philosophy of Jacen Solo, she was a consumate warrior in and out of the cockpit, and while she initially struggles somewhat with the Force and her place within it( doesn't help that Jacen literally became one with the force during the final assault on coruscant, and Anakin was in terms of raw power, nearly every bit the equal of Anakin Skywalker), really coming into her own as the Yuzhaan vong invasion forces them allto grow up, she later trains with Boba Fett and Mirta Gev in some Mandalorian techniques and fighting styles so that she can have an advantage to take out Darth Caedus. Seriously if just this extremely tiny list of extraordinary characters isn't enough to excite you into exploring the EU, I doubt anything else will.
