An agitated Crested Guan in the Santa Lucía Cloud Forest Reserve

The Crested Guan (Penelope purpurascens) is one of three species of Guans present in the Santa Lucía Cloud Forest Reserve. Typically it can be found in groups of up to 4 to 10 individuals. It is more common towards the lower end of the reserve, but over the last years they have become regular guests on the self-guided trail near our orchid garden. Crested Guans feed primarily on fruit, especially palms!
