Bolt Normal Stress

This video shows bolt normal stress along bolt axis (y-axis) as the bolt undergoes following load steps:
1) Initial bolt preload
2) Preload relaxation due to embedment & elastic interaction
3) Applied tension load
Notice how the thread stresses remain unchanged until the applied tension load causes the joint members to separate. After this point, the stresses go up rapidly.
