    I just came to see what a pager is and how it works because of the K-drama "Twenty-Five Twenty-One". In that drama, they used pagers, and I had no idea what a pager was and how it worked. I still don't understand how a pager works but I learned a little bit about them. Thanks to the drama "Twenty-Five Twenty-One", I know things such as pagers exist.

    • @mercurymadeTreal
      @mercurymadeTreal Před 2 lety +3

      I’m not sure if you still don’t understand or not but if not , basically say you have a friend , and they have a pager . You would have your friends pager number, call from a landline and enter specific numbers (0-9) which are called Pager Codes to get their attention. For example 143 - I love you , 911- call me now , 343- call back ,etc…
      Once message is sent and received they would then call you from a landline to further communicate.

    I'm getting one. I was 60 miles from my home and had no cellular service, which meant I could not use maps to help me get to my destination. I'm paying for no service! Garmin wouldn't work, either! I couldn't call home, either. I had to ask a pedestrian for directions! How's that for high tech?

      @MathewZ788 Před 2 lety +6

      well, do you know the reason why 5G internet speeds are better than 4g or 3g? it's because they work on different wavelengths. 5G uses millimeter-Wave while 3G has a bigger wavelength and slower internet speeds but its range is much bigger compared to 5G, it cannot penetrate a lot of walls and trees 3G can do that and its the similar reason why people use radios on cars because it has such a huge range due its wavelength being able to penetrate through many many surfaces but the drawback here is the information the signal can carry isn't very much.

      @@MathewZ788some 5G equipment can use millimeter wave, but it's not particularly common. For phones, it's mainly intended for densely crowded areas like stadiums. 5G uses whatever frequencies the carriers can get their hands on, including the same frequencies that 3G and 4G services have used. 5G is dozens of incremental improvements from 4G in the techniques data is encoded and transmitted wirelessly, rather than some fundamental breakthrough. A lot of the improvements are on the cell tower side rather than on the phone side, i.e. using very high gain phased array antennas and stuff.

    last time I looked in to getting one it was about $15/mo. I could add a data/text "line" on my existing mobile service for $10. A sales person I worked with in the early 2000's almost got fired when she had her customers "page" her - she had a cell phone too and when her manager learned she wasn't giving customers her phone number (that the company was paying for BTW) she nearly got the axe. The manager said "it's 2001 and unless you're an on-call surgeon you don't have your customers page you..." I'd be interested in seeing how much the monthly is still - I'm in to older tech that still works...
