- In defense of his administration's handling of Rikers Island, Mayor Adams invited CBS2's Marcia Kramer to review 90 minutes of security camera footage that was scrutinized in the federal monitor's report.
Its all about $$$$ folks. The City doesnt want to lose that contract to the FEDS taking it over which should have been done decades ago to their failure.
It' about $364,009 a year per inmate gone to manage fees, close to $1,000 it went from about $40,000 quickly to up over years
I remember it changed to like $180,000 a year quickly higher
You don't know what you're talking about. The federal monitor would "oversee" operations. The city still foots the bills. The federal prisons are the absolute worst. They can't manage their own system.

THe DOC has nothing to do with when a person is produced in court for trial. Rikers is the end of the line in a broken system. The court system is responsible for that.
Someone kills someone they go to jail, what about the person who made the gun. The person who gave him the gun the people who gave the person tobacco, weed and alcohol. Deep down the country likes crime why do you think all that stuff is legal its big business. Even a kid wants to drink some beer and smoke weed needs $40 to do so of course they going to resort to crime
too many people like to run with the narrative of it’s deserved. For starters, who’s anyone to judge? Secondly, we can be specific and technical about the circumstances, still doesn’t mean there aren’t thousands of inmates on that island who are being treated unjust and left to deal with inhumane conditions. Prison/Jail should be a place to reform! Rehabilitate! Not disable and destroy the very thing that can make anyone continue to pursue a life of lawfulness and of good. Especially RIKERS! SHUT IT DOWN!

Consider in your for profit budget: one industrial size broom/mop/bucket/scrubber and generic pine sol/vinegar with rags/paper towels. Long term returns. This seems sensible until I hear horrow stories of withholding feminine products from women incarcerated. Taking biohazard measures has zero to do with providing luxury. Remember that those released not only may be recidivists... They may contract and transmit beyond those walls. Some haven't been to trial yet. Think!

The inmates in Rikers in 2024 are in deplorable conditions that’s why a lot of officers recently left quit walked out because of the codification there They make it look nice for the media it’s a shame
