- Mattias Ekström tears up The Streif at the wheel of an Audi E-Tron technology demonstrator.
#audi #etron #redbull
The Streif in Kitzbuhel is one of the steepest downhill race courses in the world, more accustomed to skiers travelling down it at break-neck speed.
But former World Rallycross and DTM champion Mattias Ekström took the novel approach of driving up the virtually vertical part called “Mausefalle” at the wheel of an Audi E-Tron technology demonstrator.
The challenge was to get up the steepest section of The Streif, only two days after the annual World Cup downhill this year.
None other than the Norwegian ski superstar Aksel Lund Svindal supported Ekström with expert knowledge. The two climbed up the Mousetrap on climbing irons and Svindal
explained each detail of this part of the track, which is highly feared between ski racers.
The risk management included safety precautions, such as a roll cage and a racing seat with a six-point harness as well as a belay, through which a safety cable is run. The safety system was specifically designed for this test to avoid the car slipping. It did not affect the performance of the car or the driver.

Mattias Ekström tears up The Streif at the wheel of an Audi E-Tron technology demonstrator. The Streif is one of the most dangerous and challenging ski slopes in the world, but the views up on top are so worth it. Where's the most beautiful place you've driven up so far?
I wanted to ski streif 5 days ago when I was on vacation, I only did the first part but because it was so icy and steep I stopped
y u use a zipline???
"World`s Most Challenging Ski Slope" lol. Come back when it's driving up Corbet's.
GooD Job
Great car, cool tech and beautiful design! Nice place, good sportsmen and what not. Simply everything looks good until you bore people with the " dangerous, risky.. " part by taking it too long and seriously. It was totally safe and there was not even the level of danger what people face in day to day traffic. Ask 10 people on the street and I bet at least 3-5 of them would give it a go in that car up that hill. Heavy car... so? Good old Audi will use some random line that might not carry the weight? Also, I did not get this " The Streif is one of the most dangerous and challenging ski slopes in the world, but the views up on top are so worth it. " sentence. Is it worth going skiing there? is it worth to take a visit there to see the view? Is it worth to test stuff there? The view is worth dealing with the challenging dangerous slopes? who goes skiing challenging slopes for the sake of the view? questions questions..
11:10 You're welcome.
Bless your soul
Saw it too late 😫
Thank you and to others who made it the top comment!
Like from me as 10 cents to keep you comment on top.
haha 50 secs in i was just like, ugh. thank you!
Leonidas559 thank you for wasting your life so I don’t have to
A 12 minute video and about 10 seconds of something actually worth watching.
And as always, it's money that ruins the fun. Red Bull wants to make a video longer than 10 minutes because that means more ad-revenue.
Now they only need some annoying dude to beg for subscribers and likes for the first minute of the video.
Feel the spirit of Red Bull video )

Thats redbull😂
you cant just take a car and drive up a hill its not that easy....
literally takes car and drives up hill..... its that easy
Richard Mattison The power of thousands of hours of experience...
seriously!!! Is it really that hard to push a god damn gas pedal for ten seconds
@HetShotNet The only hard thing here is the prep! After the car is prepared it´s iterally just drive the car up the hill
CaptainDad Plus shifting, traction and many other variables. I would love to see someone try to take their Honda Civic up that hill. They can barely make up the steeper hills in San Francisco. Also, wouldn’t it be throttle not gas. Probably wrong terminology on my end.
@@mazon33 there is no shifting.
Jesus christ stop talking and do it.
Moriarty Vivaldi yea 6 months to go up a hill
Pfff took ages and in the last frames you see a lifeline. Nah not that special. Red Bull should start worrying about the health issues they create in society with that horrible drink.
Piet Velkens Amen.
gotta get that AD revenue
ya waited eleven minutes for the stupidest red bull video of my life
i dont think people realize how steep this really is
I think we all do lmao
Yeah and I don't think they know how to drive in the snow

If you pull my Fiat 500 with a rope. It can do an uphill too
Supposedly the rope wasn't pulling. It was there for safety to stop the car in case it lost traction and started sliding down the mountain.
@@KimonFrousios his comment was sarcasm.
If you put studded tires on it like they did for this, it might do it without the rope.
@@willkingsley685 haha literally
@Rockin' Panda took the joke too far mate
“Not as easy as driving a car up a hill” proceeds to get in a car and drive it up a hill
Literally anyone in the world with a right foot could do that
That's why it's a *car* commercial, not a car driver commercial.
lmfao
No, you'd choose the wrong line of speed and just fall😂
Still you would need this car to do it :)
just skip to 11:10. long arse video.
TheGingerLord 93 thank uuuu
TheGingerLord 93 thx
Not gonna sugar coat it... this was lame
You 're lame🖕
Ayeee do that with your 50hp Honda
Norge nei har ikke lyst
so lame
yup; along with the "safety rope"
Spikes Bigger than the empire state Building
they use same tires in ice racing at Sweden
11:08 is where it starts
"Its not as easy as just driving up a hill" - proceeds to just drive up a hill.
Epic! I love Audi and what they do! Would be a blast to try that one day!
Video starts at 11:10
you're welcome
lol Mattias, is a god, there’s no one else aside from Solberg I’d trust more in the off-road. Such a legend.
You got balls brother 👍
Nice climb !!
I've got an audi a4 STCC edition from his victory in STCC 1999, awesome person!
The guy from 4:53 is as dutch as an human being can be😂
We tried on different oefengrounds
Hahahaha
FYI this white material is called snow. Ice is clear or light grey. Ice is alot slippier than snow. Greetings from Finland!
11:05 he actually starts going up, the rest is just small talk.
The cable looked really tight compared to the other one in the test try
Meh... my drive to work is more intense than this.
My morning dump gives me more shivers.
I was there that day, if you have skied the Mausefalle, you know how impressive this is.
Takes one to know one! 👊
its not impressive when you already knew it would go up and are just trying to promote a car
@@davidbrandis7688 For me it is.
Was that the car that was at Wörthersee in 2018?
I held my breath the entire time he was actually driving... which wasnt very long lol
That is badass. Now do it backwards
Babysteps...
NEVER!!
No no, only badass if he had drive from top to bottom ;)
Jeez, its the three Musketeers! First Max, then Marc, and now Mattias!
Very sick! :D
Best hill-climbing algorithm so far...
Audi and redbull , my 2 favorite brands
Glad to be a fav 😍
Ekström was and is a legend
Я и на Девятке туда заеду!
So what are we going to use this for again?
Any car can do that if you put spiked tires on it and u get speed in the beginning
I don't think so. You need enough weight and power, not speed.
How did they get it back down though?
This needs to be a yearly sport
Sehr geil!
i loved this video and the story. that was an amazing story of german engineering and the true power of electric cars
I’ve actually skied down this exact mountain in Austria and it’s a lot steeper when your looking down from the top, it’s damn impressive for a car to be able to climb up it
Молодцы ребята, Удачи Вам!
Pretty amazing I must say
Did he go back down as well?
That's pretty dope💯
We always try to keep it! 💯
Why is there a Euro 4 sticker on the E-Tron's windshield?
Because in Germany, where the car is registered, most inner cities only allow in cars with this badge. It confirmed that they are at least as environmentally friendly as a Diesel complying with EU 4.
And since some guys even LS-swap Teslas, even EVs need this badge.
What kinda Quattro is that if all wheels are not spinning? New audis are not good 4wd
Why should all wheels spinn if only one looses traction???
I have never wanted to see a car drive up a ski slope but I have now and very happy that I did
When i went to austria I think i skied this. it was super icy and it sucked from the top but it got better as it went down
I love Audi so much and this is awesome. Good job from Ingolstadt 👌👌💪💪 just Audi just Quattro ❤️❤️
I think it's fair to say they wouldnt have posted the video if they didn't get up.
Red Bull got always the best content ❤👏🥇
2:35 2:49 I like these views, since when you see World Cup races on TV, the courses look so flat. Not nearly as steep as they really are! This really lets you feel the nerve and skill the racers must have to compete on such insane courses.
I was thinking the exact same
how it feels to drive up Mount Chiliad in GTA V
You gotta love, how they tilted the video, to make it look more steep then it actually is. You can see the trees not pointing straight upwards.

Hello fellas, welcome back to garage 54.
Шикарный автомобиль , шикарная расцветка , шикарно всё .
I liked it is was good.
Sweet 🔥
Insane 😍
What`s the winch rope for? So is there a winch that pulls the car or helps at least?
Lindo carro, compra uma Troller !
it's like a steps that you should do it for to reach a goal
Driver: "it's not as easy as driving up a hill'
Driver: Drives up hill easily
😂
Was it towed?
Yeah, for safety reasons if it starts sliding
We have the etron and he is amazing.
Wircklich ein geiles auto
same tires as they use in Swedish ice racing in the biggest class
If etron can do this imagine what PM3 could do
Amazing car
OMG the whiners complaining about it being lame or too long. Learn how to use the slider at the bottom of the CZcams video and drag it to the right if you just want to see how it ends. But you better not go to a baseball/hockey/football/basketball/soccer game if you you are really that much of an instant gratification impatient person. Just stay home for the score or highlights. If you just want to see an overpowered ultra traction vehicle chew up some steep slope then go watch Pikes Peak Hill Climb or some other event where they have zero regard for what they do to equipment, the hill or the people involved.
Some of us actually WANT to see what goes into the whole process. Some of us actually downhill ski and have a real appreciation of how steep this is. Some of us actually watch world cup skiing and have an appreciation for how challenging Kitzbühel is. Some of us appreciate that Audi and Red Bull sponsor world cup ski racing so that we can enjoy watching it.
If its longer than your very short attention span can handle, then go watch something else.
Thank you Red Bull. Thank you Audi. Great video.
Breaking news! Modern vehicle drives up hill!!!
Poor Svindal, contract bound to wear his Head skiing boots for walking:p
Jon Olson wil do it faster
"steepest section of the Streif, which has an 85 per cent gradient" Can we talk real numbers ? what does this mean ? how many degrees is this ?
Johan Karlsson 40
3:20 really shows the hills angle
Where can i get an Audi winter jacket like the one Mattias has?
Wo wurde das Design gemacht von der Folierung?
11:07 you’re welcome 😊
Ok.. So these are really good tires. That should be a goodyear commercial.
Not about driving skill, it about arrangement and preparation, ...
Only thing I missed was the sound of a roaring engine.
If you want to see how steep it actually looks go to 11:35
Great video. Red Bull should be producing more documentaries. They are always excellent and well put together.....and I don't drink Red Bull!
Awww thanks for the kind words. And give us a try next time!
I want see how they down hill
Interesting Experiment 👍🏻
Will this be a factory option?
what degree is the slope at thats super steep looking close to 60 degrees or more?? can anybody help me if they know? thanks in advance... this is an awesome video thanks to audi and all those putting in the hours or preparation getting ready, and of course the course climbers that is scary.. imaging slipping and sliding down the entire slope.. haha love to know how steep that is..
-peter
In the video it says 85%
@@derultnerlp9319 thx sorry i totally forgot to look there stupid me... thx for the info that is crazy steep
@@PeterPiccolo np man😂
I wanted to watch this just from an uncut angle. And I'm not sure if that cable isn't helping the car.
Remember Audi....Safety is number 1 priority!
Wait... I want to see the descend with that car 😬
GooD Job
Can we see the SRRS rock bouncers do it? They might not make it up but they certainly put on a show lol
audi did it again !!
Jon Olsson: Hold my can of RB...I'll do it in my new 3000HP boat.
What is the reasoning behind not using locked AWD? I mean locked diff in any climbing off-road sport is almost a guarantee... here not the case... (and sure i know it has 3 motors, but all programmable...)
Was that car pulled by a rope? In some angles you can see something that looks like one.
There is a rope for savety reasons, if the car wouldn't make it up. They also talk the whole video about it.
How he ruck is the world's most challenging ski slope a groomer?! Great ad
Hehe! cool project! but whats all the talk about safety and no rally helmet on the test runs :D
Wow...
Well dun.. !!!
I drive 60% downhill with my 25 years old tractor and hayloader
That's great but here it goes uphill :)
