Young Martin’s Reels was created to honor my dad Martin B. Stivers of Louisville KY. He was an avid fisherman and repaired thousands of fishing reels in his lifetime. I spent numerous hours watching him do so, but I have forgotten most of what he taught me. Now that he is gone, and I find myself in need of reel repair, so I am learning how it is done and trying my best to pass it on.
You can join Young Martin’s Reels on Facebook@ YoungMartin’sReels | Facebook
If I can be of assistance, feel free to contact me Rick48cj2a@yahoo.com
I would also like to thank Dennis Kuntz of 2nd Chance Tackle. His videos have helped to fill in the gaps in my “reel” knowledge. Without his CZcams videos I’m afraid Young Martin’s Reels would not exist.

A reel having that level of adjustment was very ahead of its time, great video! I just got a 100B so I’m excited to clean it up and use it.

Shirl, as you can see in my video, it was my happy pleasure. I’ll be installing new line on them tomorrow. After that I’ll box them up and send them your way. Love you too!

Finally, I feel like you and I are on the same plato😂you dropped down to my level😂😂.. I can’t get enough of this company.. Every time I take one of the 100 or 110 reels apart, I learn or see something new.
I have learned something though that I’ll pass on to you (I’m sure you’ve seen)the crank arms and rotors are prone to getting misshapen (the D shaped fitted holes) if too much pressure is put to it, they start trying to become O shaped holes😂. I guess the steel they used wasn’t the strongest in the world.
Usually the center pinion shaft tunnels on the 100B is aluminum or brass, the slotted plastic ones I’ve found were in the later anniversary models. But with Johnson, nothing is off limits. The foam on the button was a new one on me though😅
Truly enjoyed watching this. Sorry, that was too long, but I love these 😊reels.

@@TheGraytOutdoors It's been a long time since I put a Century on a flyrod. I did mention to Rick at one time that I mounted one upside down on a spinning rod.

Of all my Johnson reels I like the 100B 40th Anniversary model the best. My Century 100B Deluxe would have been my first choice, but it has a permanent anti-reverse that can't be switched off. I do like the ball bearings in the Deluxe that don't exist in the other Century models though.

The century 100B was the first reel I ever learned how to take apart. I love them. It’s also the first reel I serviced on YMR.

Do you think doing these reels one at a time might work? If it were me I’d start getting parts mixed up. To be so small these reels can be complicated rascals. Well I see it that you thought the same as me about working on more than one reel at a time. More and more I’m seeing how much better you are at this than I am. You are an engineer while I am an artist. I’m often amazed that I haven’t screwed up a lot of reels. I am truly amazed at how you can adjust the drag on these reels. (Did I see a little editing here?) I’ve never seen drag BARS before. They are ingenious how they designed these reels. The ArR is likewise ingenious. I sometimes get confused when changing the preferred reeling hand on a reel especially DAW Quick spinning reels from the 1960s and 70s. They are quite difficult but possible. I hope you;re going to clean up the outside on this reel if it’s for your sister. Oh, I guess you got it as good as possible. Is this the reel you forgot to grease? These reels are amazingly versatile in how you can set them up according to preference. I can see why these reels have been so popular over the years. You didn’t grease either of these main gears. Well, you finally caught it. Believe me I’ve made worse goofs than this! This was a very fascinating video Rick. I enjoyed it immensely. I know your sister will love the reel. - Chris

Rick - Willie published his video of a grease locked Century 100B a couple days ago. You can see it on his channel TheGraytOutdoors.

I noticed the printing on the side plate for reel #2 was upside down. why would the be?

    • @youngmartinsreels5314
      @youngmartinsreels5314  Před 9 měsíci +1

They can only print it on in one direction. If you pull the plate and move it to the other side so you can wind with the other hand, it is now upside down.

Sorry Arthur, I don’t have any, you don’t even see those parts pop up on Ebay. Probably your only option is to find a parts reel. There is a Johnson reel group on Facebook, maybe those guys would have one.

After a quick check on EBay, it looks like about 20 percent of the 100B reels have black buttons. No idea why.
