- Hi Everyone!, I found a Super 8 Reel from 1979, I recover it, edited and musicalized...
It is my great pleasure to share this video with all of you, as it is an important period of my life.
Dog Town was a skateboard park that my father built and managed, I was 10 years old when Dog town opening received the world greatest skaters at that time, featuring legendary Tony Alva, Jim Plummer and more....
Thanks to my father that supported me to do Skateboarding and encouraged me to do so...
Now, this video will preserve those memories forever!
Gracias Papá...
The projector sound and yellow tinge is classic 8mm...Class of 79' Point Loma High School, San Diego
Man, having to fakie on the halfpipe brings back memories. By the time I got up enough speed, I would be too tired to skate.
nah bruh, me never tired, I wanted more and more. I skated a big mosoon 12 FT vert ramp when I started and the goal was to first get your first grind, it took me several months by faking back and forth until I reached the top and could turn, I remember my 1st back side grind and wanted more, never tired, lol. I jumped off my board after and the feeling was awesome. Salutations.
14:46 that dude is the embodiment of the 70's. Long hair, no shirt and corduroy Op's (Ocean Pacific's) shorts. I had a drawer full of them back in the day. He actually gets air, good skater whoever he is.
Born in 1970 just a few miles down the coast (a little south) I can remember climbing fences to watch the older kids skate empty pools. Most of us around that time were from divorced homes (not ALL, but most), so we had time to kill and freedoms a 9 year old today would never have as our moms had to work. When i tell people how many kids ended up in prison from what is now an affluent beach community, people usually look at me funny. Back in the day, the Beach was a rough, run down, almost a white ghetto...but it was ours, and we knew we had it good. We just had to watch our step back then
awesome for you to share, these are the stories of that history that I love to read. I am infatuated with the whole DOG TOWN skate era and where it happened. I think I would of fitted in just fine. Salutations
@@MrRamaman1 Here's one of the Guys he's talking about...Like he said we grew up in a whole different era of Dogtown, especially the Venice Breakwater area. If you were a stranger you better be ready to fight, especially if you disrespected anyone. It was a very rough run down area back then. But still a surf/skate paradise to us. I'm 56 now and can still be seen skating all over Dogtown. A rare site since there aren't many real locals left...but I'm still skating over the same concrete I was 40-45 years ago. An indescribable feeling...to say the least.
@@tonyn5055JAH Bless Tony!! Growing up back east I dreamt of the Golden Sate’s sidewalks, hills and smooth concrete bowls! Now, 35 years later I’m still living the dream after moving to Northern California in the late 80’s - with only several visits to the “Motherland” Venice Beach, Santa Monica, etc…but when I did visit…the sidewalks and concrete in that area give me the chills when I felt the inergy of all of you pioneers and the roots of our beloved swizzle stick, sidewalk surfboard, wooden toy and 4 wheeled plank of life!!! BLESS UP!!!
I come back to this video a lot
That was some great footage!
RIP JAY ADAMS THE OG
True innovator!
Outstanding footage‼️😎🔥
Nostalgia immersion!
Crazy cool footage!!
Good stuff really takes me back THANX
Excellent 👌 video. ..
Thank you.🤘🏼😎
Thanks so much for posting this and putting it together!!! I graduated high school in 79 and was skating for a few years, so I grew up bacically worshiping the Z Boyz, Tony Alva and Jay and all those guys. I devoured every edition of Skateboarder Magizine and to this day remember those pipes out in the desert, and so much more.
I thought that must have been Tony watching him skate, I can almost date it by the moves that people were doing, and trying, but not quite putting off, as I remember seeing those first guys doing a rock and roll and falling back in, or the first Ollie air, or whatever.
Brings back such memories! Those were freaking awesome days, oil embargo, Watergate, and all!
We'll always howl to our DOGS of the Lords of DOGTOWN!!
When i saw the movie .it pulled me into skateboarding .these boys made skateboarding a part of life and a,great part of history ..
My god, this is an absolute goldmine. Thank you.
So awesome to see this kept alive. It brings back great memories of skating back then when I was a kid. What a great piece of history. Thank you!
Gracias Manuel por compartir.
Un abrazo
Awesome upload. Hey from australia. I subscribed as soon as i seen it.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Dogtown born n bred. This is incredible stuff. Feelings back!
Wow, what a great father! I could only imagine what it must have been like as a 10 yr old to have his is own skatepark and personality skate and know all the the legends! Thanks for preserving and sharing a part of of a lot of our lives as kids,,,,Man, that just took me back to very happy times in my life! Thanks bro
Kuddos to the cameraman for a steady bunch of footage...
Great footage! The boards look amazing. Im guessing is what Gonz is emulating these days with his shapes
I love watching this video cuz it just "Nails" the place and time, So CA in the late 70s. I was 11, almost 50 now and hat the dog town guys on my walls, mostly posters straight out of skateboarding mags. I had a Logan Earth Ski which my dad bought at OC swap meet for me for $40, replacing a cheap fiberglass board I almost killed myself on because the wheels couldn't handle the down hill speed for shite.
Shit made me cry those days are gone forever thanks for sharing
I am 59 live on the east coast this is what I grew up with these guys were my heroes and still are
Virginia Beach
Great video! I was a keen skater in that era in the UK, I used to buy the US skateboard magazines and pore over the pictures for hours. Fantastic to see that era brought to life on youtube!
@@robertb9902 RAD was great some fantastic photos.
When life was FUN AND COOL.
I was watching a doc about BMX riding and parkour and they said Tony Hawks was part of the first generation of famous skateboarders...they forgot about THE LORDS OF DOGTOWN! Thanks for sharing this video of the guys who truly were the first heroes of street sports. I feel pretty old watching these now...but still great to watch the pioneers!
I saw another video of Hawk where in the comments someone wrote " Hawk is the Godfather of Skateboarding". I had to quickly correct them that this is not correct to be saying. The Godfathers of Skateboarding come from the 70ś and Hawk is awesome though.
Toda la musica 1979. Class.
Good shit brother, brings back great memories
Hey Manuel, I grew up skating in Dog Town = Venice Beach, California, and HAD NO IDEA there was a skate park in Mexico City called Dog Town. Thank you for sharing this! My father was from Mexico City and so it is even more interesting to me!
Thank you, Manuel!
Such a cool video. So classic, love the skateboarding and music.
Oldschool forever!
Thanks for sharing a slice of history and your life! I was barely born when this was filmed. Got in to skating when it was booming in the 80s. Animal Chin anyone?
A beautiful (bonita) film ! i like the film projector (or film slide show) sound; kinda like the hisses and scratches that you hear if you played a record/album on a turntable. (It is like watching a moving film slide show)
Very cool. Historically important. Thanks
Some killer decks out there.
Gracias!!!
Nice blast from the past!!👍👍. Good to know that not all early Skateboard history is lost . Some cool stuff here, thanks for posting & sharing .
I Freaking Love This Super 8 my brother!
Thanks!!
thegood old days
Tony Alva is one of the first names I heard back skating ,but dudes I'm super big Doors fan my neighbors had dirtbikes so I was in heaven, but they were both doors fans,oh my god Jim put his soul out when he sang, thanks I don't know much about Dave Hackett so I'm learning,a little late,
Really needed this today. Thank you.
I did the math a couple years ago when I got back into and onto a vert, board pools this time and I remember it being 1976 1977 when I got into half pipe riding I know I was ten or twelve because I got a dirt bike at 13 years old,but that was east coast u guys in Cali way ahead of us as mother nature nicely empty all those pools in California for youall, nice my park like a lot of others only lasted a year sadly, but I was blessed to have a pro tournament vert skater show me the three basic airs front, back, and the front to backside allyoop which is why I got back into skating after 37 years off, nobody that I knew had a pipe in their back yard, hey I was twelve, what fark did I know...man this is some killer original one of a kind classic tape...thank again

I was already about 28 years back then. I am 65 years old now. The music brings back memories! KHJ AM 530 KHZ in Los Angeles California used to play those songs! I went to watch the Onion Days parade in downtown Payson Utah today and noticed that there was quite at few kids skateboarding down the street during the parade. Thanks for sharing this video!
+Bill Wolverton what about KLOS and KMET
Get your old Dog Town board out & join them!

LOL great times back then. :)
I wish I could see Jay Adams in this footage. Anyway, thanks a lot, Manuel. This is a treasure.
Jay Adams appears a few times between 1:48-2:30. Plaid flannel shirt, white t-shirt. With Ray Flores. No footage of him skating though.
He’s also in the back of the car at 2:59
love it..........original sparks to positive fun
West coast spoiled kids had everything and access to a billion times more than anything I grew up with. We were freaking poor! Couldn’t even pay attention!
The shutter sound doesn't bother me a wit, makes it sound like a real vintage movie.
Yes!! me too!

Great footage, thank you for sharing.
One if not the first Half Pipe ever.

thank you so much for sharing !
