I'm heartbroken by this for him.. He used to be one of my favorite players to watch. On a good week or two he could defeat every members of the top 10. Now he just seems like he don't believe he can comeback.. Such wasted talent.. Nontheless I'll cheer for him until his last moments on court!
It must be hard for him to reconcile his current level against previous success. Sounds like he's mentally coping with it a lot better. I hope he can find a way to play/train without pain so he can enjoy his tennis more and keep playing.
Exactly absolutely not comparable. Del Porto had several surgerys on both wrists. Thiem didn't! The Argentine even came back stronger, reaching his career high, winning his Grand Slam title after wrist surgery.Comparing Thiem with him is an absolute embarrassment for del Porto who does not deserve this at all!
John - you are now the world traveling tennis reporter! I love Dominic's transparency and his resilient attitude considering his misfortune.Any time I hear "wrist," that induces panic on behalf of the player involved.
Thiem at his prime gave the big three a lot of challenging matches. I think his problem is more mental than physical. like he said before the fire went out after winning the his only grand slam after losing his first three. He should be proud of his career. Its a shame he always faced a prime Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.
Dominic is amazing! I don't care that he's not winning matches likehe used to. A joy to watch always. Maybe he has a comeback in him. Maybe he doesn't. Either way, it doesn't diminish anything he has accomplished in his career. Top 3, 17 titles, including a Slam and some amazing finals.
Mad how in one moment, a single injury can completely alter your career and future goals. Luck is quite a factor in this sport. I wish Dominic all the best and hope he can return to the level he wants to find again.
Thought the reporters were blood hungry. Yes he lost, yes he has problems with his wrist, and who knows what 2025 will bring for anyone. Give the guy a break, he has gone through hell with the injury and worked tirelessly to even play at all.
I wish he would realise hes not reaching that top level again because he has lost interest. He actually started getting worse after he won usopen, his motivation dropped. At this level its all about how badly you want it, even if you watch his matches, he often loses the first set and then comes back and wins next won. its like he needs his back against the wall in order to play hard. Domis my favorite player, I wish he could chnage his mentality, realising soon it will all be over, give it everything while you can. work harder in the gym, keep going domi we love you ❤️
This is a career changing wrist injury buddy. You don’t need to tell the guy who was one of the fittest on tour to “work harder in the gym”. Mentality will only get you so far, when the body breaks down your hands are tied. Look at Murray and Nadal, both mental giants with huge resilience. If your body isn’t physically capable, no amount of mental strength will trump that.
He is playing this year out because he probably has sponsorship deals for this year out. Next year they probably want renew, and he doesn't have the drive and believe that he can make it top the top 10.
He is taking rests all the time and people still say he needs more breaks how many more breaks - long breaks cause loss of form that he does not have No need to retire -he is always welcomed in challengers batallion. many players play challengers nothing bad when he does not get WC from atp he plays challenger this year and last year. he does not want to play qualies.
IF THIS BEAUTIFUL MAN EVER RETIRES- I HOPE NOT- HE SHOULD GO MAKE MILLIONS $ BY POSING FOR PLAYGIRL WITH HIS AMAZING SUPERB GORGEOUS PERFECT BEAUTIFUL DERRIERE. LET'S HOPE HE KEEPS PLAYING. HE IS STILL A GREAT PLAYER AND A BEAUTIFUL GENTLEMAN. BEST WISHES TO HIM IN LIFE.
It seems mentally he’s given up achieving success like in the past. You can tell by this interview and by the team he’s assembled to accompany him to these tour events. He definitely doesn’t have the drive like years ago.
Hardly. Thiem won a major and reached more than one major final, doing the deed for his heralded name although many expected him to win multiple majors. Also won more than one ATP 1000 Masters title. Gasquet never accomplished any of those, although he won 16 career titles. Do your research.
not even close. Thiem won the USO, reached multiple french open finals and came very close to winning AO 2020. Plus he won masters 1000, gasquet? not even close

A modest Dominic and always likeable. Wish him well.......
A class act from start to finish... WHENEVER that comes. Best wishes, Domi.

Wasted talent is a stretch
More like 'cruel fate'. 'Wasted talent' implies it is his fault through lack of application, which is certainly not the case.
Sometimes a player is just never the same ever again.
His wrist is still causing him issues I think
So sad!
great talent very unlucky, like del potro
It must be hard for him to reconcile his current level against previous success. Sounds like he's mentally coping with it a lot better. I hope he can find a way to play/train without pain so he can enjoy his tennis more and keep playing.
Could be his last year?
Thiem's story reminds me of DelPotro. Two class acts who won a grand slam and then they were struck with career altering injuries.
Del Potro actually made it back to the top after his injuries. Thiem did not. Very different.
@@roter13 I hope Thiem can do the same, he still has time.
Not really del porto was top level after comeback
@@fkglf7232 And Thiem can still become a top ten player, nothing is impossible.

his injury is called mladenovic , broke both of them , from top 5 player to losing to a 40 year old gasquet goes long way
The two split up in 2019. His best results came after that year. Mladenovic really doesn’t have anything to do with his downfall.
He has a record of 16 Win - 19 Loss against Djokovic/Nadal/Federer. Phenomenal Talent
He certainly was :)
Let's go Domi!!!
Domi is going home . So where he is going ?
@@srdjanaleksic7819 Bullshit answer from a person thats name ends with ..ic as usual!

ah...im gutted to hear this. its way too early for him

he has taken a break this year full month of February and that did not help
I think the wrist is the main issue, it kills his self-confidence and thus becomes mental as well.
Bless him
All the best Dominic 😍
Fire has been extinguished
You think?
@TalkingTennisTT Yes I think so, once you become philosophical and stop looking for solutions, it's time to pack it up.

He’s going to retire this year
But first he must break leg then retire like real hendicap 😂😂😂
I don’t know why they’re asking him about returning to the top 10 when he’s barely in the top 100
These reporters.....smh

I think he should try to play some doubles, he might make it there.
unfortunately a wrist injury can be career ending. as much as i would like him to play 😊
