As an American living in Japan conducting research, when a "friend" also shares the same thoughts and commitments, that SHOULD NOT be surprising at all. There is strong psychological data to show that we overwhelmingly choose our friends based on similarities. As a semi-retired psychiatrist, I have seen this first-hand over the years.

Imagine that someone comes from Japan to tell the truth to the MAGA members. Support sending aid to Ukraine or you will fall into international irrelevance with isolationism.
isolationism is a selling point for them, in case u didn't know. they could care less what some foreigner tells them. MAGA is all about zero-sum thinking: u can't be protecting allies abroad while also protecting citizens domestically, apparently.
