  • This week on The Whiskey Throttle Show we welcome motocross icon Jimmy Button. Button was pegged as the next greatest thing on a mini bike and he turned that into a solid pro career that included time as a factory Suzuki rider, factory Yamaha rider, Chaparral Yamaha rider as well as a stint in the GP’s. Button had a horrific career-ending injury that promoted him to start Road 2 Recovery, a non-profit that benefits injured riders. Now an agent for Wasserman Media Group, he has found success helping others succeed.

Jimmy’s ability to remember and tell great stories is amazing! Button made it seem like all of this stuff happened just yesterday, not decades ago! Great show!

I have a ton of respect for Jimmy. When I was 15 years old my best friend (who was also 15)broke his neck In September 2000. He was paralyzed from the neck down. A few months later or so Jimmy flew up to Sacramento to visit him and give him some inspiration. He gave him an autographed “Button” and “McGrath” jersey. I believe it was one of Jimmy’s first times out by himself after his crash. It meant a lot to my friend, me and his family. Well it’s over 15 years later and my buddy is doing great. He had a very similar recovery as Jimmy. He can walk and do basically anything and if he can’t I bet he will try harder than any able bodied person. Anyways I always wondered if Jimmy remembers that and after hearing him on this interview I’m sure he does. It was literally his first “Road to Recovery.” I hope Jimmy sees this and knows how appreciative we all were he did that and how much respect we have for him for what he did. In this interview it sounds like he is worried about coming off selfish or about being selfish in the past and I can say...Jimmy you are far from that! Thank you!

He was on it and when he got hurt my heart broke. Buttonfly you will always remain one of the baddest dudes on a dirtbike! God bless you and take care of your tattoo.

Such a great interview. Jimmy is incredible. From the amateur ranks to the pros he always had tons of natural talent and speed. Being the same age I think I watched the 80 expert from Carlsbad 100x on CZcams. His first hand experiences with paralysis were hard to hear but in the world of mx/sx that fear is always there. Jimmy Button you are awesome and wish you and your family the best!! I love how he said that 87 CR80 Mitch built him was a total rocket ship!! Wheelie down the entire start straight!! Love it

Best mx related show imo (Matthes, don't worry I still love you). Another show I can't figure out how we're not taking advantage of is RealTalk447. RC and Emig have so much to offer and nobody is taking it..I don't get it! Those dudes are literally the GOAT and Fro. With the plethora of info/incite RC alone has to offer, it's insane and yet they can't get any production value, zero sponsors or an audience expansion for cryin' out loud wth?! Not even Emig's company ODI can sponsor RealTalk447

Another great show but I think they should definitely keep the 125 dream race and the electric bikes can have their own class eventually years way into the future LOL but it's still cool they can do their own thing and also I race my 2-stroke indoors right now. I live in Indianapolis and wish we had a indoor place nearby to ride during the winter but I will ride and race in Maysville Kentucky at an indoor track called Earlywine and I've also Road at an indoor place I think it was called Moto tracks a little west of Chicago. You can race and doors like they do they just have exhaust fans to suck out the smoke and in the winter it's a whole lot warmer inside than outside and for safety they don't allow gas cans inside the building and honestly if I had the money to start a business like that I would because it's a year-round thing

I love how you guys are bringing past riders on. Be awesome to see sellards, pastrana, reynard, ezra, kdub, larocco, and both wards.
For ezra and or kdub ask them about kenworthys in It was either 2000 or 2001 should be interesting story something they did together if they open up about it.
TP I wonder if he has regrets of his million dollar jump even though he has or had the freestyle and nitro circus success. He has to be the greatest or fastest guy to never win 250/450 title. So much potential after winning 125 titles. His probably number 1 person I'd love to meet in my life go to breakfast with.
