Great Video, I just installed a GMR and had to cut the screen end. Put on the new one and it didn't work. After I watched your video I saw my mistake and it works like a charm.

Thanks for the video. I find it helpful, even though I wasn't able to really see any of the work you did on the cable at the radome end, due to over exposure. (I'm sure if you hadn't had that black sweater on & in the shade, the histogram equalization wouldn't have caused the lit portion to wash out.) Also, when you're trying to focus on something small (like the connector, when you were sliding the conductors in), you need to make the small item's focal plane the dominant plane in the image. The easiest way to do that is to put your hand right behind the object. Then your hand and the object fill most of the screen & the camera will focus on them. Thanks again for the helpful video. I'm glad your narrated it well!

Thank you for the feedback. I totally agree with you and I am just starting this video thing and I’m trying to get a better system for capturing higher quality videos, any tips I get from people help. If there is any videos I can make concerning marine electronics or installations let me know.

Tony C the cable will be different at each end. The green and orange pair will swap positions on opposite ends of the cable. It’s called a crossover cable. Hope that helps clear it up for you.

Tony C it doesn’t matter if the A or B side is at the display or the radar as long as the cable is opposite. I used a non shielded connector because that’s what the customer provided, he didn’t want to buy the garmin rj45 pack. I’ve seen non shielded ones a lot and never seen any issues, but I would recommend you get the shielded ones.

good stuff radar is a very important safety tool i run it anytime i am in my boat at night it's a lifesaver for some reason i see a lot of people with there $10,000 simrad radar off in the intercoastal in south florida. why? its helps marpa & arpa saves lives! i have a 16 ft wth raymarine quantum 2 its great saved me a few times i got a feeling most people don't read radar correctly or underestimate its safety i use 1/16 nm is just right in small canals where a c large boat can pull out in front of me. 1/2nm in the intercoastal RADAR SAVES LIVES LEARN TO USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job, especially under the conditions. Your narrative and explanations really made up for less than quality video, but heck it’s your first video. I realize this video is 6 years old, but I was wondering what your opinion of the Garmin GMR 18 HD and GPS 4208. Garmin has discontinued both but I have an opportunity to pick up a used working radar with the exact same components. I am a little concerned about any future service that may be someday be required. What are your thoughts, should I look for newer technology or go old school. Thanks for your input and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

You should use the angel hair to cut the rubber instead of cutting it like that. You are opening a chance for corrosion cutting it with a razor.

2013 Gamefish 27, all of a sudden the Trimco lights don’t all light up. Trim works perfect other than no indication. Do you have a video on this repair?

    Dear Friends,
    I am speaking from Portugal.
I have a Radar Garmin 18, working with a dedicated Display Garmin 3005C.
Last time I turned it on, it appeard an error code #5.
Can you tell me if it is a typical troubleshooting / indication, or it is a generalistic information?!
    What can I do?
In advance, thank you very much.

the ethernet plugs into the antenna. If that short wire built into the antenna is corroded where can a new piece be found. It is about 8" long and has a suppressor of some type on it. why in the world would they swap the colors coming into the connector. If both connectors were identical they could have swapped the wires inside the antenna housing to make things easier.
