This is currently the best in-depth presentation of the new Wild out there! Period! Detailed views and explanations... answers to actual burning questions, and not just glancing over Orbea's marketing materials. I also love that you didn't clean the bike, but showcased it as close to "real life" as possible. You asked us what we wanted to see... and you actually delivered! Respect to you for that! Thank you, Rob!

Your comment about the chainstay length is so true. As a taller rider you have to raise the seat upwards and as it goes up your weight moves back along the angled seatpost. I wish XL frames also came with longer chainstay. Very few bike designers do that!

I used this review as part of my decision to buy the 2023 M-Team, but it unfortunately sold out, so I waited for the 2024 M-Team which is exactly the same as the previous years model, I’m 6’2”, the L was perfect for me, I went with the upgraded 170mm fork, 175mm fox dropper, the Maxxis tyres, and the kiox 300 display, the rear shock needs an adapter so you can get air in it, that’s a right pain until you get use to it, got it 6 months ago. Have never looked back. Absolutely love it. It’s won best E-MTB for the last 2 yrs running, think that tells you something, can’t recommend it highly enough.

I enjoy your high video / sound quality and easy delivery /technical content on ebikes. I was particularly interested in this particular video because I bought the Orbea Wild H20 two months ago after watching rave videos on CZcams, the last bike I bought after CZcams endorsement was the entry model Specialized Turbo Levo which I loved (2019) - got stolen!
My concern is that the Ebike brands are soliciting paid reviews of their top, most expensive models from the popular CZcams channels, tellingly these paid reviews all come out at the same time, literally. There is a big problem with this platform - the reviews profusely embellish the super expensive bikes (some of which may be true of course), however, ordinary joe like me are much more likely to buy the entry level bikes in the hope that they ride very similar to the top models. EMTB - ordinary joe/jane - middle aged with kids, short on time, relatively new to or returned to biking, investing oversized sum to feed his/her hobby.
None of the top earning channels review the entry level bikes, nor do they actually say anything negative because of the conflict of interest. Hence, it is not clear, who is this bike for? The beginner, or the pro downhill enduro ace? We hear far too many numbers - so many millimetres or angles this and that (chain stay, BB, reach etc.) and not enough about how they ride and whether these bikes are value for money? Hence, the CZcams channels are complicit in letting the industry get away with hastily thrown together lower end bikes that are seriously flawed, and still demand thousands of dollars/pounds/euros!
My view after 2 month ownership is a degree of disappointment. The H20 is a monster truck, way too heavy, I did not expect that given that the top product is 20.8Kg! This is a major problem for intermediate/ early biker. The sheer weight detracts from being able to jump, turn, develop skill, and the poor fork/suspension platform can only described as dull and lacklustre. The internal battery and the ridiculous complicated headset with internal cables is just nuts. Importantly, something you did not point out - this is a front heavy bike, much more noticeable in my size small bike with big 750 battery taking up the whole length of the down tube. It is difficult to convince this bike to jump (more speed, more hop) and then control the tendency of front end dipping. Why oh why do I have to spend several thousand of hard earned cash to bring it up to speed? Should I really even try to bring the weight down - not possible.
The result is that 2 months down the line, I am desperately trying to sell the bike and buy a Specialized - the market, as it is, I can't even get half price for a 2 month old bike.
I do not believe the Orbea Wild 2023 Alloy models are value for money - period. It turns out, all the R&D went in to developing the carbon race winning models. There is a unhealthy collusion between industry and channels/social platforms that promote these bikes - it makes it impossible to get an honest view of products that are more expensive than the cars we drive.

Hi Rob. Just a great review once again. I'm totally sold on Wild, but I have one problem which some other people experience. It's not with the bike but with the manufacturer of the bike/dealer network. First of all, no one can tell me when the bike is going to be available in my area (Northern California), second, when trying to order the bike from the Orbea website I'm not allowed to choose the dealer nearby, in my case would be Mike's Bike in Roseville CA. I'm being sent 500 miles away to Utha to pick up the bike. I emailed Orbea, and talk to local dealers/Orbea reps. no one knows what is going on. I know that this has nothing to do with the bike itself (looks like is awesome) it is giving me a pose thinking about Orbea support in the future if things go wrong. I'm hoping that someone from the Orbea team might see this not-so-positive opinion and comes up with some answers.

  • @Simon1279.
    @Simon1279. Před rokem +1

Rob the main problem with integrated headset cables routing it's not for replacing the bearings but the grease renewal around the bearing itself and it's hole, this needs to be done almost every 3 months on mountain bikes, especially if you wash them a lot or if you're riding on dry and dusty terrains, in my 2 bikes from 2021 (1 ebike and 1 regular MTB) i had to do this about 12 times or what you get it's a continuos boring crunch from your headset.
I really hope this is just the 2023 fashion because i won't buy any bike which are adopting this system, very nice to see? Yes indeed, Practical about regular maintenance? nope it's nothing else but a hell kind of invention.
What bothers me for the most is i would buy that ebike instantly; it's just superb the technology and the components are just amazing (including Galfer disk rotors) and the color is stunning not talking about geometry, that's my dream bike i would say but with a huge flaw: the hoses integrated in the headset, being myself my own maintainer and mechanic.

@SkyGuy hey I know, there is a ring that is clamping(one tiny bolt) the stearer tube...that force is the only thing keeping the whole assembly from rotating to much. From my understanding...I have seen the lock block headset in person, the stem however has no physical connection to this assembly, it is bolted the same as any other stem, so with enough force the stem would rotate. The problem with orbeas system is that they have put the cables along side of the stem. If the cables would be in front of the stem or a bit lower like canyon for example does it...that would not be an issue. Could be wrong, but from my technical knowledge I think that this kind of a bad scenario is possible.

I would like to know, if it is possible to flip the rear shock bei 180 degrees at the WILD to access the lock-out??
Secondly I would like to know, if the internal routing of the brake line is done similar to the ORBEA RISE. If so I assume the same issues….I guess the little opening on the lower tube, near the battery is a kind of service access point, to make it a little easier when changing the brake tube. However, as it seems ORBEA did not invesst to much engineering in this internal routing, the cables and tubes may be sqeezed or clamped in between the frame and the internal battery, during the assambly of the bike in the factory. It was like this at my ORBEA Rise. Which meant, that I‘ve had to drop the motor to change the brake tubing…….would be interesting so know, if ORBEA changed anything about this. The thing with the routing through the stem….I don‘t know. I love if I could use „old parts“ and recycle things. So if the bike industry „invents“ every 2 years new things, which don‘t improve the performace of the bike - I‘m not a fan. Internal routing okay, but at the end the internal routing never made a bike faster or a ride better!
    My opinion.

curious to hear you say Rob that you'd like this XL to be longer, or there to be an XXL, as I thought you'd chosen to adapt yourself to smaller bikes - I think you ran a Rail in Large (reach 491) - or was that experiment not a success?

The main issue I have with a 29er rear is buzzing my nuts on very steep stuff because I'm not as tall as you. Such a shame they haven't included a flip chip (or some other means of lowering the rear axle), which is such a simple thing to add to give buyers the flexibility they need.
It's all very suitable for me otherwise, but I won't be buying one unless a properly designed mullet option was created for it.

I could easily ride this XL on enduro courses. In fact, if there was a longer version with the same size rear chainstay I’d go for this XL version because it will have a better weight distribution between front and rear. Same on the Trek Rail, I downsized to Large to get a more balanced bike. BUT if they increased chainstay AND reach then I’d be up for that!

I'm just curious, why it took half a decade !! for Orbea (other brands too, however new Wild is 2 years behind Specialized Turbo Levo gen3 !) to create ebike with decent geometry ??? (comparing to my analog bike from 2018, which is quite similar).
Is it because ebikes were targeting (were designed for) sunday warriors/MAMILs before and not for racing/professionals/aggressive riders ?
and now, when ebikes started to be more popular among fast riders, it's time to make them more aggressive ?
