In this video, I react to Vivek Ramaswamy's piano performance of Mozart's Rondo a la Turka, and offer him a few friendly tips for improving his piano skills. Vivek plays the piano during a campaign stop! Can he improve his technique? Let's find out!
Hi everyone, after many negative comments on this video I just want to say for the record- I mean no disrespect toward Vivek, and am not expressing any political opinion one way or another! If the use of the phrase "failed presidential candidate" sounded too harsh, I apologize. I meant only to say that his candidacy is over, not that he himself is in any way a failure! He is undoubtedly a brilliant and highly intelligent man, and this video is only meant as a friendly criticism for all lovers of piano music, to help us improve and see some typical mistakes that amateurs make. I know, of course, that Vivek is not a professional pianist, and am astounded that he can play Mozart at all, one of many many talents! Some people seem to want to take the video far too seriously; it's all in good fun!
I'm an Indian American, and I agree with your critique. Vivek is a decent pianist, enjoyable for casual listeners, but he doesn't measure up to advanced pianists like yourself or others.
hater say what?
If we sat 1,000,000 random people down at the piano, how many would be able to do what he did?
Most piano students that practice could play this piece after three years of piano.
I don’t he was trying to impress folks, it was just for fun not a formal concert. Love how you take it so seriously to make such a detailed critique on him.
he is playing without looking at codes just by memory so there is no comparison I think that pretty good to lot of people.
Yes, glad he played by memory (even if he forgot to play some major sections of the piece.)
Vivek will definitely listen to your recommendations ...lol clown world.🤡🤡🤡🤡
Vivek is to busy brown nosing to listen to anyone.
I don't by any stretch of the imagination think that he'll listen to my recommendations .)
he does
Do consider he is not pianist for trade and does not get to practice as much as he did in high school? He does only have a billion dollar set of companies to run. I think he did great and I also think he is smart and our country would be 1000x better he was incharge. If I can't have that I want him as VP So bad.
The video is no way a criticism of Vivek, Just a video from which all pianists can learn a little something. I love that he can play Mozart!
He is not a politician by trade either he just started voting a few years ago.
He's not bad, but he's not great. He's better than me (at least right now). I would be pleased for someone to play for me at that level. Especially from memory.
Feel like this critque is not neutral but rather lopsided. Just look at all the comments here.
when you will go to harvard and yale and make millions, after that I will take your criticism seriously.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
All that money and education and such awful piano player but I am sure you enjoyed it I guess you can be brought just like him.
I have a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University. Not exactly a bad school ;) I'm also a Fulbright Scholar, studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Weimar, Germany. Don't take the video too seriously, it's all in good fun :)
@@petersonpiano I am lowly person with only a graduate degree in engineering. However, since you are such a funny person, why don't you go make fun of Biden, Trump etc. etc. for not even able to touch the keyboard. It will be so much fun !!! Yes, everything is political now a days.
Don't act like he is curing terminal illness now. Come on its not like he is helping to find a cure for alzheimer's. Oh wait that he did build a billion dollar company that develop one of the leading drugs for that very thing. But he is not stuck up enough not to listen to others that no more than him either. That is how he became worth billions and exactly why we the people need him in office.
I can see Biden playing the piano by bashing they keys with his head over and over again before falling asleep after ten seconds
And then getting lost trying to find the exit
failed presidential candidate is crazy disrespect. Did jordan win every season he played ? Was he a failure every season he didn’t win. Bias is crazy
I'm not calling HIM a failure, I simply pointed out that his candidacy wasn't successful. I'm not expressing any political opinion, just offering a friendly critique for the benefit of pianists.
Think Vivek remembers some notes and forgot few. He cud practise again love listening to classical piano
Gimmicky video. Interesting critique. But i see a guy who probably hasn't played in months just sitting at an idle piano and playing from memory a song he learnt as a teen. It is what it is, a amateur performance (in the true ama sense) being assessed as a concert performance.
It’s Vivek pronounced Vivake like Cake. Nice if you could pronounce his name correctly
😆
I'll work on that, thanks for the tip!
We-way-k
Omg you are catastrophic 😅 a person with 2.5 k subscribers say this
Well, if you judge a person's worth by their number of subscribers, than yes, I suppose I am nothing. Don't take the video too seriously! It's all in good fun :)
Thats so rude to compare him with his subscribers
I think Vivek is doing pretty well for someone with a Harvard biology degree, junior nationally ranked tennis player, life-saving medicines creator, capital markets wokism remover and likely next president after trump or whoever, while being a billionaire playing some Turkish march on the side at 38. You are nothing.
Woah, don't take it so seriously! Of course he's accomplished many impressive things, I never said otherwise! It's just a bit of piano-related fun :)
😂
You are meat riding hard.
Don’t know why there’s so many negative comments. This is a great, insightful commentary. I do like Vivek politically while that does not hinder me from thinking he can do better at piano.
I agree- the number of negative comments completely shocked me too! It's all meant in good fun, just a friendly opportunity for all pianists to discuss a bit and learn. So many people seemed to take the video as a personal attack on Vivek!
Constructive criticism should be welcome always. The piano teacher in this video was spot on.💯✅👏👏👏
I appreciate that! Thanks so much for understanding! A lot of people really flew off the rails over this friendly criticism offered with only the best of intentions.
As a pianist, I must say this person's comments are unfounded. A serious classical musician wouldn't fault another for playing incorrect notes. In my opinion, Vivek plays this piece by Mozart with a fantastic March-style crispness, staying true to the intended style. He also plays with great dynamics (volume variations in the passages.)
A serious classical musician wouldn't fault another for playing wrong notes?? What planet are you living on? By professional standards, his playing is an absolute disaster. Of course, I don't fault him for that, he's not a professional. But it's neither true to the original style nor crisp, by any means.
@@petersonpiano Playing an instrument well involves several nuances and goes far beyond simply hitting correct notes and playing with good intonation. The essence lies in phrasing (discerning “peaks” in phrases and building anticipation before a peak), understanding styles (Allemande, Loure etc.) and historical contexts, the period of the composer, acknowledging the instrument constraints during the period (e.g. baroque violin bows were quite short and produced a much stronger down bow than up bow; the keyboard that Mozart used during his early years was still using the plucking mechanism), and much, much more!
Playing with all of this taken into consideration outshines mere note accuracy. Even Beethoven emphasized musicality over playing correct notes, stating that playing incorrect notes is insignificant, but playing without passion is inexcusable.
People people pls calm down, vivek will absolutely agree to this critique, even he will agree that he is a casual pianist and not an advance player...This are freindly suggestion from an professional Pianist's. There is no politcs here, this is how all the pianist teacher would critique, and should critique.
Thank you SO MUCH for understanding! Finally someone who understands. No politics indeed! Just a friendly criticism, anyone is welcome to criticize me as well anytime.
A 'pro pianist' should know the context that he was just playing on a whim after one of his campaingn events. This purely feels like you have a bias against him rather than him playing the piano as you called him a 'failed presidential candidate'. A poorly made video that is solely made for 'clicks' rather than anything as Vivek is popular right now.
Don't take it so seriously, please ;) It's just a friendly critique for pianists, not a criticism of Vivek as a person.
I think Vivek did a great job. And I agree you are a great piano player.
It's like a comparing a Pro golfer and a club golfer..
Absolutely, I would NEVER expect Vivek to play like a pro and am impressed he can play at all!
I appreciate your constructive criticism. You have to think though, Vivek isn’t reading from any notes and probably hasn’t played this song since middle school. I’m not a pianist, but I find it to be pretty impressive. Though you are a trained pianist so you probably don’t find it to be impressive, but I find it refreshing that we have a politician who at least tries his hand musically. He’s a big fan of Nixon (our 37th president who also played piano) I’d love to see your analysis of Richard Nixon playing the piano.
That's an idea! I'll have to look for Nixon playing the piano :)
Why people's hate your critisism your point of view as pianist people's need to understand
Like a good teacher help students to point out their mistakes so they get better next time
so people's need to understand you are not pointing out his career or his achievements you are just giving simple minute mistakes so that a new learner or pianist learn how to do it right
Hey man i viewed your video as knowledgeable dont listen some baseless arguments in comments section you did it well
Well done teacher 🤗🤗
Absolutely! I'm glad you understand!
Vivek is the man
Most impressive is finishing the piece while snowballing. He might have lost some notes, but he gained Dynamics 😊. Pretty safe to say musicians that perform at high levels aren't billionaires! I'm impressed by the guy regardless of his views. I'm glad I stumbled upon this, thanks!
So glad you enjoyed it!
What do _I_ think about Vivek's piano playing? I think that the fact that someone who has risen from rather meager beginnings to have started several multi billion dollar companies, one of which has provided life extending therapies for people suffering from otherwise hopeless maladies, written several books that have moved the needle on the conversation on several important social topics, has risen from obscurity to garnering a significant number of promoters of the prospect of him becoming the holder of perhaps the most significant office on the planet, and even being a nationally-ranked tennis player in the meantime, the fact that he has had time to learn any more than Chopsticks on the piano is remarkable in and of itself.
Absolutely! Couldn't agree more.
Knowing vivek he will probably take ur advice in good spirit if he ever watch you video. Keep up the good work
Thanks :) I hope so!
Like the saying goes " Never Mix Piano with Politics ..." Great channel keep up the good work.
Thank you very much :) great saying!!
@@petersonpiano The Great Mark Russell who recently passed actually mixed piano and politics and humor you reminded me of him in the video. Maybe if you find time you can make a video about him and how he helped every laugh and find humor in politics. Also many other figures have videos playing like Zelensky, Putin, Truman and even Nixon. Making content with them in it will show you are not biased. Hopefully you won't start a World War. Keep up the good work.🎹🎶🎵
Go watch the video of Vivek scoring a point against a tennis pro. Now, what everyone wants to know is can he dance?
Watch him water skiing. He learns within a day. What can he not do?
Bravo!
Blue no matter who?
Are you seeking some attention ??? Then do it based your talent don’t drag Vivek’s name for something that he never claimed
Don't take it so seriously, please :) It's just a little analysis of his piano playing so that all pianists can learn from it.
Compare this pianist’s knowledge of The Constitution
Challenge accepted :)
I'm glad to know how good Vivek is at playing. So he is good but not on a professional level. He's a guy who can criticism.
Bravo to Vivek for learning some Mozart :)
@@petersonpiano
Maybe you should offer to give him a lesson and make a video. I’m sure he’ll accept. He got the free time now
It’ll give a boost to your channel.
Anyway, good job on the video. I learnt a lot
I appreciate the constructive criticism, and I think Vivek would, too. After all, he was a good sport for putting up that video even though he must have known that he flubbed it quite badly in places. It's a shame that the mean-spirited click-baiting cover graphic ("I'm amazing!" "God help us.") seems to predispose a lot of viewers against the video, as it did me (my first reaction was not to click on the link on principle).
Vivek's problem with finger independence was one of the first things I noticed, too, but as a not very good pianist (probably comparable to Vivek) I'm curious how big of a problem it is. My fingers are quite calm when it's not their turn to play, but I've seen much better piano pianists with undue tension in their fingers, like Ben Laude's left pinky here. czcams.com/video/RXCm6033JvM/video.html I would happily trade my less awkward-looking pinky to sound as good as he does.
He is vastly better than the majority of pianists. If at first you don't succeed --------------------------. Most people don't know the difference between Tom Brady and a junior college quarterback. At least he got a free lesson.
First of all, Vivek is not even a pianist! And you think Vivek cares what you think? He was only having fun there knowing that he would very likely make mistakes here and there. You picked the wrong guy who doesn’t really play the piano much anymore. He wouldn’t care less about improving his piano skills.
"He wouldn't care less about improving his piano skills." Well, that might be one reason why he plays this way ;) Don't take it so seriously- it's just a friendly critique intended to help other pianists improve. It's not a criticism of Vivek as a person.
So your a hater who wants to show you can play better ?
Vivek Ramaswamy playing is exactly like his campaign run... A Train Wreck
@@raykane2063 I bet you can't play better than him. Also, you probably didn't go to Yale & harvard and make millions. You are living in your mom's basement criticizing and hating better men than you.
@@raykane2063 when you will go to harvard and yale and make millions, after that I will take your criticism seriously.
It's all in good fun- I have no opinion whatsoever about his politics. Of course I can play better, but that's because I'm a professional pianist, not a professional entrepeneur/politician.
I have a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University and live quite well, thank you :) I KNOW I can play much better than him, but I don't fault him for that, of course! Don't take it too seriously, it's just all in good fun :)
I think he would take the criticism however I see he’s not professional like you. However if he would take the criticism seriously I am sure he would learn from you.
Wait. Tendonitis? Vivek has a lot of stuff to do than play the piano all day.
Anyway, I sympathize with you seeing all the negative comments. You could have just phrased your criticisms more tastefully. It isn't that hard.
Thank you for your message. Actually, I don't think my criticisms were at all distasteful- anyone who studies music must be able to put up with MUCH more severe criticism at every lesson :) It's all meant in good fun, no offense to Vivek intended.
@@petersonpiano But Vivek doesn't study music. He plays for fun and never claimed or aspired to be an ardent student of music. Vivek is versatile (entrepreneur, author, politician, tennis champ, biblical scholar, Harvard/Yale, orator, and so on) because of his superior genes. His accomplishments in every field have brought him immense wisdom.
Your problem probably is that you're not so deep in music as of now. Therefore, wisdom hasn't come to you yet. Otherwise your innocent video wouldn't trigger so many people.
Vivek hasn't had time to be great at everything.....JUST MOST THINGS. Vivek was too busy with his career becoming a billionaire to be a pro piano player. Vivek Ramaswamy, once a nationally ranked junior tennis player. Vivek Ramaswamy is a biotech entrepreneur and investor. He worked as a hedge fund investor and made millions before graduating from Yale. He founded Roivant Sciences in 2014, a company that bought patents for drugs that had not been fully developed and marketed. He resigned as CEO in 2021 and became the executive chairman. He is also the co-founder of Strive Asset Management.
Certainly a talented guy.
That's not his profession. He doesn't have much time to practice so he can earn money out of it. But if he plays piano in a rock band then he might earn an income out of it.😂
Agreed 100% :)
🤡🤡🤡
Hey Peterson. Don’t listen to all the hate. A true Vivek fan would appreciate your feedback. I am assuming you are not the usual hypocritical democrat here
Thank you very much :) I meant no disrespect whatsoever to Vivek, just a friendly critique for all pianists to learn from!
Vivek Ramaswamy playing is exactly like his campaign run... A Train Wreck 🚅 that everyone knew would happen.
Keep Spreading misinformation....
It's all in good fun :) I have no opinion whatsoever about his politics.
He literally went from being unknown to a household name while beating lifelong politicians twice his age. Now he’s at the heart of American politics, all at the age of 38. It was an astonishing success, the likes of which America has never seen b4
