She's very interesting. I like how in all the interviews I've seen of her she is not trying to ingratiate herself to anyone, nor is she screaming her position. She has a distinct point of view and the courage to express it.

It's pretty simple, she is one of, in my opinion, the best original singer song writer period. It's her originality that always caught my ear. The voice and instrument in itself, the tuning from another planet and the privacy of the individual which made her so wonderful and artist. There have been times she reaches so deep I can't listen for years, hey I`m a guy but her power of interpretation let's you go where you need to go. Thanks for decades of originality and beautiful music

I have always loved Joni, her music, her art. Her shyness kept her personal self in the background and her art at the forefront. How amazing to hear Joni's assessment of our America and the upcoming global economic meltdown. Especially since it was recorded a few years ago, it is ever so true and unblinkingly accurate. Part of the wonder of her songs was her keen observation & telling of the human condition. Apparently, she still has that skill. How wonderful. What a treasure she is.

4:43 "When a culture's had peace for too long, it perverts..." That's precisely what's wrong with America right now. Not to say that a country needs war to stay healthy, but that being top dog for too long breeds a complacency that warps values. The "wars" should be against poverty and the suffering of our neighbors.

Joni Mitchell is human like all of us, and make mistakes. We talk about her and view her here not because of her mistakes but because she had a great, unique talent to write songs that touched millions of lives. We should appreciate that and not tear her down for little mistakes we all make. We all make mistakes but very few do the hard work and years of dedication to write new music. Remember what Lincoln said: "you will never uplift yourself by tearing down others." -self esteem issues

An album written amd performed by her in the 70's and still is considered by Jazz and music critics in general to be beyond a classic. This would be one example of hundreds. I wish you wouldn't feel that way about Joni. She has a point about how women are as manipulated in their dying sense of humanity as men, but I thought it was obvious she knows full well many women do nurture their art, and compassion. As the mother of four grown daughters in the teaching profession, we see what she means every day, and also see the good women who hang on to their love of life and each other.

Solredoc: I consider Joni's album, "Hejira" to be perfect. There may be a few other albums that are perfect but that one DEFINITELY is. It's hard to say if she's Number 1, but I certainly can't think of anybody better.

Weak men and grotesquely strong women. Tell it like it is Joni.
She is just fantastic. Among her many gifts is re-establishing Hope and Faith in humankind.

@solredoc: Joan Baez has penned some of her own as well; Buffy Saint Marie's career preceded Joni's, in fact, her recording of some of Joni's early material helped draw interest from the industry in her burgeoning career; Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot wrote their own material--men yes, but so was Laura Nyro, and she wrote her own songs as well. My point is simply that others preceded Joni as singer/songwriters, but I'll grant you that she was an early one though hardly a pioneer by that point.

Don't forget, she's human. The problem was you had her on a pedestal and when that happens, ones idols always fall short at some point. That's the danger in worshiping idols, especially when they're human. I don't agree with every single thing she says, but she still kicks the ass of every other female singer/songwriter of the last 40 years. And she paints pretty well, too. :-)

What she says about the weakening of men and the grotesquely aggressive woman is SPOT ON!
