Marillion's Out of this world mixed with the BBC TV 1988 Production 'Across the Lake' (21st anniversary of Bluebird Crash) My first go with mixing video and music. I hope you enjoy it
Lets get this correct when I uploaded this Video in 2006 there wasn't a video for Out of this World. I contacted Marillion and had a really nice email from the Band to say how much they enjoyed it. After around 3 - 4 months the Black and White version appeared, this was constructed by a professional who had access to the orginal films of the event. Marillion used this video in the tour as it was public domain
Marillion's "The Great Escape" and "Out of This World" are those unique moments when rock touches perfection. They did it! This video is awesome and goes incredibly along with the musical piece...
Living a few miles from Coniston water this song has a pretty special meaning. I'm very much looking forward to the restoration of Bluebird and its eventual return to Coniston. Oh and the song is bloody incredible too. ;)
I keep coming back to this. I remember the first time I ever watched this and (obviously) listened to the song at the same time. I literally wept. A powerful combination - splendid job.
Donald Campbell is one of my heroes, I stood by his grave, this song running through my head. I cried. If I were offered the chance to drive a WWSR boat tomorrow, I would do it. I grew up in and around powerboats. Such a rush.
Out of this world music, video and Across the lake movie. Beautiful pictures at Coniston Water. Donald Campbell legend told to us to know it. Thank you Marillion for this huge level song.
Three hundred miles an hour on water In your purpose-built machine No one dared to call a boat Screaming blue Out of this world Make history This is your day Blue Bird At such speeds, things fly What did she say? I know the pain of too much tenderness Wondering when or if you'll come back again Wanting to live for you And being banned from giving But only love will turn you around Only love will turn you around Only love Only love will turn you around So we live you and I Either side of the edge And we run and we scream With the dilated stare Of obsession and dreaming What the hell do we want Is it only to go Where nobody has gone A better way than the herd Sing a different song Till you're running the ledge To the gasp from the crowd Spinning round in your head Everything that she said
Marillion are in my top 4 bands and Coniston is so special to me, my dad swam across the lake while my mum and I paddled a dingh, we got blown by the wind down the lake and a rescue boat came upo to my dad and asked him for a light ( for a ciggie) he nearly drowned laughing... 2 years ago my son swam across the same lake and I was rowing a dingh with my son and we listened to Marillion and enjoyed a dram and beer in the evening.. So Fellini. Many thanks
Every year we go to Coniston, for the power boat records week. we set right opposite the Bluebird crash site. After the runs have finished we stay a while, toast the Skipper, and listen to this. It gets no better.
I used to be a big fan. Not that I totally stopped being one but I somehow lost track of Marillion after Brave. This song got me back on track…I really really love this one. So now I'm on a ride again with the amazing Marillion! How great is that?!! :-)
This song was in the album "Gaspacho" the album that came after "Brave" but yes, i also lost track of Marillion after Gaspacho. This together with "afraid of sunrise" and "beautiful" where my favorite song of that LP.
Despite being a Marillion fan in the 1980s I had never heard a Steve Hogarth song until playing this. A brilliant song and video. Campbell was a brave man. Thank you.
As a kid I was obsessed with Donald and how they couldn't find his body for so many years turned out the body was in the bluebird all along, this song is such a tribute and was even played at his funeral, great song and well mixed with the video footage, powerful
Alex Burnell They never found his head though. Absolute legend. Land speed and water speed records. You have to have some titanium alloy testicles to get in a rocket engine powered boat. Luckily for Donald, titanium alloy testicles run in his family.
Hi, yes 4th Jan 1967 Blubird crashed at over 300 MPH on Lake Coniston, UK. In 1988 the BBC made a TV movie called Across the Lake. I took scenes from this TV Movie which also contains real footage of the crash and mixed it with Marillion's Out of this world. I hope you vote and like it ?
Every time I listen and watch this vid, I get goosebumps. What an amazing edit and paring of music to image. Whenever I hear this song on my own, I think of this vid, especially the "and we run and scream, with the dilated stare, of obsession and dreaming..." part of the vid. I saw Marillion live in Montreal in 2015 and this song brought me to tears, yes it was THAT powerful. Thank you for this work of art. :)
Glad the interest in Campbell and Bluebird lives on. We were up at Coniston last week and as you look out you can just imagine that flash of blue going past. Great song and video, very haunting.
@crossy1974 thing was her final resting place under water had never been located. The guy who lead the team to find her was a Marillion fan, inspired by the song to do it. The raising - from what I've read was a decision taken based on the fear that if the site got out it could be raided and destroyed. Marillion were invited to the raising by both the team and Donald Campbell's family.
wow this song always has captivated me, but alongside the film it is just simply breathtaking! I was priveledged enough to be at Campbells funeral and so this song always is very emotive for me. Fantastic work, thank you.
This movie is hard to find. I did a search on CZcams and finally found it. Watching it now... It was only after 30+ years that his remains were found... ;(
I'm listening to this on a Marillion playlist and I can't seem to be able to move on to the next song. This is simply too beautiful to only enjoy once.
Stunning use of this beautiful track illustrated by powerful footage. I remember when the tragedy happened - a fine example of a supremely courageous man exploring the limits of human achievement in one of nature's most wonderful settings.
I've had this saved in my "Marillion Mix" for over 4 years now and for good reason (ever since I've found it). Let alone that "Out of The World" be a brilliant song, but to pair up the beautiful music with scenes from "Across the Lake", starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, is truly a a wonderful treat. Kudos to the editor/author of this work, it is certainly remarkable. Scenes like when Blue Bird begins the final turn and gets the sun glare just before the run as if God and His angles are watching and waiting, or while Blue Bird finishes the turn and speeds up on her final run while the lyrics- " though we live you and I, on either side of the edge [boat turns and speeds up], we run and we scream [accelerates with rooster tail of water], with the dilated stare of obsession and dreaming [Anthony's eyes wide during acceleration]"... etc, etc. The scenes from the movie have been well paired with the song. Job well done.
this is superb!!! well done!! feeling very emotional!! The Campbells will remain british heros forever. I visited the k7 restoration a few months ago unsure that they should be tampering with a peice of history but came away feeling that it really is the correct thing to do, restoring this precious vehicle so future generations can understand what this great man was all about is so important.
Haunting yet strong, what a mix of Video and Music. Awsume job!!!! Sreaming out of this world making History. Whoa, Such speed such music such vocals. WOW !! Timbo
I look at this as a big bonus to being a Marillion fan, they always support their fans, and when I first saw them at Wembley with thousands of others in the early years it is a 1000 times better these days lets keep it a secret ;-)
I don't understand people who say Steve Hogarth is crap. This is the only song I've heard with him but he seems to handle the vocals very well, a sentiment that Fish himself has voiced.
When I first uploaded the video to youtube I did email Marillion, I am glad the used my video live it really puts the track into perspective which was what I had intended. Big Smile :-) regards AmarokUK
when are the bbc going to repeat this film the sacrifice of Don was!!!!well on his return run he made the fatal decision to go with less fuel to get the record. He got it, I wished he lived to see it.RIP.Thanks for the Vid.

Thats a credit in itself mate.... take pride in that
this band is not from this world ... marillion is a gift to mankind
Marillion's "The Great Escape" and "Out of This World" are those unique moments when rock touches perfection.
They did it!
This video is awesome and goes incredibly along with the musical piece...
This song really is out of this world!!!!!!!
Thank you I felt exactly the same as I created it
I also remember The first time i saw and hear this song, its one of The most atmosferic song that i know, pride of humankind
Afraid of sunlight is one of underappreciated Marillion albums. Love it.
Donald Campbell is one of my heroes, I stood by his grave, this song running through my head. I cried. If I were offered the chance to drive a WWSR boat tomorrow, I would do it. I grew up in and around powerboats. Such a rush.
Afraid of Sunlight is full of strong and deep songs.
brak słów by wyrazić ,co się czuje słuchając tego utworu!!!!!
Art.
Awesome tribute to Donald Campbell!
One of the best songs by Marillion-H, fantastic. Such an underrated band.
I agree this song has great lead work on vocals and guitar, well composed.
Brings tears to my eyes...
Another Marillion masterpiece. ....I get chills every time I hear this song.
A true monument of human feelings.. Magic, almost surreal..
Out of this world music, video and Across the lake movie. Beautiful pictures at Coniston Water. Donald Campbell legend told to us to know it. Thank you Marillion for this huge level song.
Three hundred miles an hour on water
In your purpose-built machine
No one dared to call a boat
Screaming blue
Out of this world
Make history
This is your day
Blue Bird
At such speeds, things fly
What did she say?
I know the pain of too much tenderness
Wondering when or if you'll come back again
Wanting to live for you
And being banned from giving
But only love will turn you around
Only love will turn you around
Only love
Only love will turn you around
So we live you and I
Either side of the edge
And we run and we scream
With the dilated stare
Of obsession and dreaming
What the hell do we want
Is it only to go
Where nobody has gone
A better way than the herd
Sing a different song
Till you're running the ledge
To the gasp from the crowd
Spinning round in your head
Everything that she said
Thanks
Just witnessed K7 en route to Coniston (finally) and immediately came here to listen. Still brings tears to my eyes. One of Marillions finest.
What others consider masterpiece songs- Layla, Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, Inadagaddadavida- I don't. This is one for me!
Hell-O, Michelle Marillion is in another level.
You know, another under-rated group is Manfred Mann! Also check out Gov't Mule...
Estonia is another one for Me...
Undoubtedly. A sublime and beautiful song.
People who say h i is crap is jealous and bitter(swedish word).
What a beautiful song. Keep it up Marillion. We hardcorefans and others loves you.
Mark Kelly says so much with just a few notes....genius.
This wonderful marillion song inspired the man who has just restored the original Bluebird. Amazing story and a great song.
You boys from the U.K. sure know good music!
Every year we go to Coniston, for the power boat records week. we set right opposite the Bluebird crash site. After the runs have finished we stay a while, toast the Skipper, and listen to this.
It gets no better.
THEcaptainsparkle been to Coniston, but can’t seem to find the crash site! Don’t like to ask the locals, could you enlighten me please?
I used to be a big fan. Not that I totally stopped being one but I somehow lost track of Marillion after Brave. This song got me back on track…I really really love this one. So now I'm on a ride again with the amazing Marillion! How great is that?!! :-)

This song was in the album "Gaspacho" the album that came after "Brave" but yes, i also lost track of Marillion after Gaspacho. This together with "afraid of sunrise" and "beautiful" where my favorite song of that LP.
The album is called Afraid of Sunlight, not Gaspacho
Ronnie Franco
it's been a wile... thanks for clearing that out.
best song of the universe
Masterpiece......!!!!!!!!!
Afraid of sunlight is the best album I've ever heard in my life
Despite being a Marillion fan in the 1980s I had never heard a Steve Hogarth song until playing this. A brilliant song and video. Campbell was a brave man.
Thank you.
One of the most heartbreaking songs... I don't know how many times I cried with, both at sunshines and sunsets.
When Marillion meets Pink Floyd... Beautiful song! Masterpiece!
As a kid I was obsessed with Donald and how they couldn't find his body for so many years turned out the body was in the bluebird all along, this song is such a tribute and was even played at his funeral, great song and well mixed with the video footage, powerful

This has now officially become me and my girlfriends song ❤️
How many "girlfriends" are you referring to ?
@@Retroscoop 😂 oops
I've always loved the song, which can still raise the hairs on the back of my neck, but with the video compilation too - just stunning.
BEST SONG IN THE UNIVERSE. EVER.
Très belle reconstitution de 1988 avec Anthony Hopkins. Superbe musique de Marillion. Un très beau montage pour des images poignantes.
My uncle Keith spent the night before this playing cards with his friend Donald Campbell, he said he knew it was a die trying attempt. ...A great man.
Sam , if it isn't an impertinence to ask, is the story of DC drawing the same 2 cards as Mary Queen of Scots (beheaded the next day ) true ?
Beautiful, oh God ☺
This movie is hard to find. I did a search on CZcams and finally found it. Watching it now... It was only after 30+ years that his remains were found... ;(
can anyone say "this is why i love u tube" had no idea this existed , i am thank full for whomever made this , marillion rules!
You have done an amazing job with this video and I can't believe I haven't watched it until now. Thank you!
Well done. You made the music fit into almost a narrative. Nobody can deny that these Prog Rock tracks are very deep and poetical.
3:55 : Omg this is pure magic and genius...
The vocals, Steve !! The melody...!
I'm listening to this on a Marillion playlist and I can't seem to be able to move on to the next song. This is simply too beautiful to only enjoy once.
Out of this world. Video and song. "Only Love will turn you round"....
One of the best videos. Very appropriate for the song.
Spinning round in your head, everything that she said.... nine words that speak volumes. Brilliant pay-off line.
Stunning song.Marillion can excite you with stories that do not belong.Beautiful & more beautiful.
Stunning use of this beautiful track illustrated by powerful footage. I remember when the tragedy happened - a fine example of a supremely courageous man exploring the limits of human achievement in one of nature's most wonderful settings.

Linda Homenagem; a música do Marillion nem se fala. Nota 10 !!!
Follow the rhythm of the music and it will take you to a truly magical place.
that solo shot to infinity...my god what an incredible song.

*counterpoint
This song made me a Marillion fan
This sends shivers down my spine. How sad and beautiful at the same time...Absolutely brilliant
Having a session of Marillion w/Fish and/or H. Both are sooo goood...
The best for ever
TITANIC
Dormiremo assieme abbracciati
This is an amazing song....absolutely awesome. And this fan made video is awesome aswell
Dear sir. This is perfect. Thank you.

The guitar solo of Steve is "Out of this world" ....
What a solo this band is phenomenal fish or Hogarth

This band is so awesome! Today's music lacks the creativity and imagination...it is all about corporate money!!!
Absolutely gobsmacked. Amazing.
Marillion music is one of only a few bands that give me the old`shivers down spine`.
Epic track and beautifully timed video.
Incredible song, incredible video. Marillion forever.
Fantastic song, great to put it with the footage, really enjoyed it.

Awesome video to one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Great job, thanks!
It's doubly great given that this song inspired someone to go find Donald Campbell and the Bluebird. Members of the band attended it's lifting.
Haunting yet strong, what a mix of Video and Music. Awsume job!!!! Sreaming out of this world making History. Whoa, Such speed such music such vocals. WOW !! Timbo

Awesome job. I never really paid attention to this song until I saw it paired with this video...very haunting...
