How to play Bach: A masterclass by Radek. I don't think I've EVER heard any instrumentalist as clearly identify the harmony, phrase it with such precision. I never had a second of doubt where I was in the harmony, where it was going and where I was in the phrase. No doubt whatsoever in the articulation.
Just brilliant musicianship. Bravo.

With Covid, everyone has been doing lots of recording, and it helps you appreciate that this is 16 minutes of basically impeccable horn playing, in what looks to be a single, uninterrupted take. The degree of difficulty is almost beyond belief.

it's probably not a single, uninterrupted take (notice the cuts), but that doesn't matter. It's flat out, beautiful music making....beyond just 'horn playing.' BRAVO!!!
hah, i am not a musician but i think I can make it sound similar on the the single horn my son "handed" me 10y ago when he quit mid school band... hmm, just kidding..
@@davidcottrell1308By cuts do you mean the use of more than one cameras at the same time...? If you look carefully, even the head movements and breath takings are fluid in spite of changing angles... So is the sound recording, in my opinion...
It is certainly possible that this was one seamless take, but there is no way to tell. And those "camera angle" changes are cuts to the video, for sure. And audio can be seamlessly edited, so listening to the sound recording doesn't prove anything. Again, it's amazing! @@kisskari

Very nice! As a french horn player myself I always felt like Bach could have written some really beatiful solo horn music, this gets very close to that.
The baroque horn definitely couldn’t have performed that kind of music, but it’s interesting to think about what he would have done with the modern valve horn

Hey, is that a Heckelphone leaning against the wall there? I have never seen one in the wild.
A good player can sound good on any type of horn, but he uses that 103 (Durk clone) here as if it's the best horn for him and he's the best player to play it.
The whole range is rich with overtones, but still clear, and with room for panache. This is how I try to play my 103 each day, but never will.

That is true he is the best player to play that brand. I also play D3, it fit me better and because I got tired of trying 103 and never find one that helped me to sound better. I also know if you dont know someone famous alex let you try just ok horns, that is not nice because you only get a good 103 if you play in a big place or you know someone??? ... but I have to say they look alike but they are not.. different sound, emission, size of the tubes, construction, also K10 Hoyer look likes and many others... format is kruspe based like many, you have Kruspe, Conn and Geyer all others are more or less copies of this 3..

Correct, one pitch sung while another is buzzed. Sometimes additional "resultant" tones can also be heard.
