"You Dare refuse my Batchall?" "I refuse your What?" Exactly how I imagine the first dozen or so conquests happened per clan...for a society that decries waste, you think they'd explain the concept of their battle challenges to opponents who don't understand...
@@popefelix "Glossary? We haven't gotten anything from that far out in the Periphery in...well, ever! How did you send it, Subspace radio? Listen, give us a chance to find it and read it, and then come back in a few thousand years and we can resume this discussion."
I know this comment is a year old but to clarify why it looks terrible... This came out during the dos/windows 3.1 timeline. It was released close to the same time as Mechwarrior 2. For that era, the animation is incredible. Reboot came out the same year, 1994, and likely had a bigger budget.
@@ShrekWallBee I think it would work really well as a drama/action like Game of Thrones if done correctly. I would start the first season focused on the Amaris Civil War and then work the way up to the Clan Invasion.
What kind is Steiner uses two centurions and a wolf hound to guard a base? Where’s the Victor and Thug or Atlases? I mean they’d still lose but at least they’d have given the Thor a challenge and maybe breached the armor.
I mean, canonically this is IS propaganda, so it makes sense to try and paint it as the Clans bringing way more firepower to the party than needed. At least it *kinda* makes sense...
Despite the ancient animation quality and cringy dialogue, I think I like this! It's lore-accurate and has one of the best elements in the BattleTech universe: a ragtag band of murder hobos who specialize in crazy, desperately fighting an unwinnable fight because there's nothing else to do. Edit: after rereading what I just typed, I've decided that yes, I definitely like this show.
I know that it was incredible back in '94, but I kind of wish they hadn't poured most of their budget into the cgi bits. The show would've likely had a more timeless aspect to it if they'd put more effort and time into the 2d mechs.
With all the dang transformers movies an pacific rim movies they should do a big modern movie or binge series of battletech if I had wish list maxcross would be on as well
thanks so much havent seen this since i was a kid, now this is something I wish they would do a movie about man this would make Pacific Rim look like shit
"These are Experimental Fighters, called Banshees." "Great, now we just need someone who can fly them." Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Watch where you're pointing that Chekhov's Gun!!!
Brother Malachai I thought so too but it's Robert Thurston. Amazing novels, I always recommend Jade Phoenix Trilogy and Illusions of Victory for people first getting into Battletech.
Yeah, Stackpole did most of the main story line in the Battletech books, but the Jade Falcon novels were mostly Thurston. A savvy reader can tell who the author is, by looking which faction is actually competent.
That was... rough. Coming from someone who's been playing Battletech for the better part of thirty years, it was cool to see the universe on screen, but the dialogue, the tropey characters... Look, as a Battletech player I've had to put up with a lot, and modern cartoons have probably given me unreasonable expectations for dialogue and characterization, but this was just... rough. That said, props to Riino Tzakor for posting this.
my mfav mech was always the madcat, with the launchers on its shoulders ,and i hate elementals they're dicks ,what did the call em "true borns" and we "normals" were freeborns i think ,i loved the novels too
Fun Fact: in the MechWarrior universe, the cartoon is canon in the form that it's "propaganda"

"Kerensky's balls! The Inner Sphere really has gone to shit, hasn't it?"
Wow. Surprisingly accurate, lore-wise... for a cartoon. Terrible animation on the Mechs, but still
Aurex couldn’t agree more.
Remember watching this at the time and the animation looked great :)

Yeah, even by that time, they should have made the Mechs 2D.
CGI doesn't bodewell.
duded it was fucking 1994
I wish they made a series like this on Netflix would be amazing
they need to keep the animation level to be authentic.
It’s like the propaganda cartoon that the IS would play during the invasion era.
IIRC the animation is "canon" in that it's a show that exists in the Battletech universe.
It IS a propaganda cartoon released by the Inner Sphere, that is LITERALLY how it fits into Battletech canon.
Put out by the Lyrans to demonize the clans.
@Juni Post I agree with Space AT&T *Brushes dust off Lyran Uniform*
Yep, that's actually exactly what it is.
Man I loved this show as a kid. I collected most of the toy mechs, and I still have all of them. As a kid I wanted to build a real mech. Lol
flyingpig107 You and me both.
omg i wanted those mechs as a kid but to this day i could never find where to buy them !
@@mdnght0095 Anything Battletech.
Netflix needs to get on this
theres only one season what would be the point unles they did a live action version with cg mechs

@dingbat - you'd have to cut out a *lot* of stuff to fit all that in three seasons.
Fuuuuck no! Netflix would not do this series or universe justice. They would retcon the hell out of established lore.
This show is what introduced me to the Battletech/Mechwarrior series as a kid back in the day.

does anyone know if there exists higher quality versions anywhere?
If you keep an eye out for them, occasionally someone uploads cleaned up re-release versions, but they don't last long till copyright strikes hit.
This was probably ripped from VHS, I doubt there are any non-VHS version of the show available, unless they released it on laserdisc or something

So, did Stackpoole get a writing credit, since they just pastiched his books?
He did Legend of the Jade Pheonix Trilogy, right?

@@Stilgarsan I couldn't get into anything Stackpole wrote. His writing was too over-descriptive and long winded. I was and still am a Thurston fan.
aside from timber wolf i cant tell what mech is what lol..
