As requested the basic roadmap to the success of Queen:
Firt album called Queen (1973) - not much impact
Queen II (1974) - First Top 10 single (Seven Seas of Rhye) and album in the UK
Sheer Heart Attack (1974) - including the first worlwide hit Killer Queen
A Night at the opera (1975) - the turning point for Queen bc this album included Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen became a worldwide phenomenon especially in the UK and Japan.
A Day at the Races (1976) - solid follow up to ANATO including Somebody to Love.
News of the World (1977) - including We Will Rock You and We are the Champions. The US Tour to this album climaxed at the Madison Square Garden.
Jazz (1978) - A solid album with one of Queen biggest hits Dont stop me now.
The Game (1980) - With that record Queen became the biggest band in the world. The album included two number 1 hits in the US with Another One Bites The Dust and Crazy little thing called love. Queen also toured the first time (of any western bands) in South America in football stadiums in front if the biggest crowds of all time at that time. Queen established themselves as maybe the best live band ever around that time.

HAP3SPEAKZ “You’re my best friend” was a huge hit. Written by John Deacon for his wife. John married his high school sweetheart and had 6 children. They’re still married.
Freddie was throwing away an older organ. John took it home and taught himself to play it & wrote the song on it. The official video shows him playing the organ/piano.

Freddie was only that open in front of strangers when he was on stage. Usually in private he was very quiet, a bit introverted and shy, especially when there were people around him he didn't know. With friends, bandmates and family around he was quiet and shy from time to time as well, but also very witty, quick on his feet and up for shenanigans especially with Roger. Elton John said whenever he was out with Freddie he had a ball it was so hilarious. On stage he had this persona, feeling ten times bigger and confident. There he could be whatever he wanted to be. He held the audience in the palm of his hand, and didn't give a shit what they were thinking. He was quite a unique person full of contradictions but nevertheless coherent.

@@HAP3SPEAKZ They were very good friends for years, along with Rod Steward apparently. They even joked about starting a super group and calling it, Hair, Teeth and Nose. I am not sure how that would have worked. Elton visited Freddie until his last days. He has spoken very emotionally about Freddie's last days. He has told the story about how Freddie arranged a birthday gift for him, it was a painting that he loved. The gift arrived on time after Freddie was already dead. He also sang Bohemian Rhapsody alongside Axl Rose at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert, and he also did a one-off performance with the rest of Queen in 1997, performing The Show Must Go On.

This concert was first released on VHS as Queen We Will Rock you. It was the only concert they didn't own and they did not like the end result. Many years later they did a deal with a family member as the producer "Saul Swimmer"had died and bought the rights and all the available footage and then had it restored and released as Queen Rock Montreal. Jim Beach was a producer as well but basically they were paid to do this concert for someone else. It was very involved but a deal was done.

I also enjoy reading the comments from others on your videos. The comments are a great way to educate myself a little more on Queen and their music (so many tidbits I didn't know even after all these years) and they often give me a new perspective of how listeners perceive each song;musically and lyrically, and the nuances of live performances.
Queen really did offer something for everyone musically speaking, didn't they? Having four talented members of the band with equally diverse personal taste in music brings a seamless ability to cross genres and be able to just 'make music' how they wanted to instead of how people thought they should be doing it. Being true to yourself amongst criticism is never an easy thing, but in the public eye even more difficult. And Freddie and his small white shorts? Freddie being his on stage persona Freddie, extroverted and free...almost the antithesis to how those who knew him best say he was away from the spotlight.
Looking forward to more of your Queen and various reaction videos.

Montreal "Another One Bites the Dust" Freddie was dressed the same except he also wore a baseball cap. :) You pretty much know at what point you are at in a Queen concert by the amount of clothes Freddie is wearing. All of them had their moments during various concerts: Roger trashing his drum kit; John throwing his bass across the stage; Freddie knocking over the large speakers, pole dancing, etc. I don't recall Brian losing it but he probably did at some point. The production company wanted the band to dress and move the same way both nights so they could cut and paste the performances together. They also changed the lighting and got in the way of the performance which angered them. Freddie was in long pants for this song the first night and deliberately came out in shorts and changed the performance so they couldn't mess with cutting up this song. If you have the dvd, there is an option of listening to Brian and Roger discussing this and commenting throughout the performance. It took them several years to get the rights to the video and re-edit it, piecing together the hatchet job the production company did.
This was a song Freddie would really let go while performing. In an early recording he knocked over big speakers, pushing them from one side while Brian tried to hold them up from the other side.
After one concert Roger hurled his drum set off the platform almost hitting Freddie, and after another, John threw his guitar into the wsll. They all had their moments.

He didn’t give 2 shits about what people thought. He was in the moment and giving it all he had. Freddie on stage was definitely a different character than he was in real life. He was quite reserved and shy around people especially if he didn’t know them. It just shows that the persona he portrayed on stage was NOT who he was in real life, but that’s what people and fans loved about Freddie, he was the Ultimate Entertainer. Montreal was filmed over two nights. Freddie hated the production crew, they told him he had to perform exactly the same way each night. Freddie’s moves weren’t choreographed, they were spontaneous and he didn’t like being told what to do and how to do it. His itty bitty shorts were his way of showing his objection. It caused problems for the production company when it came to editing the two concerts into one and there was no continuity. Bohemian Rhapsody is actually their last song and they’re taking their bows and accepting flowers being thrown onto the stage, yet it appears in the middle of the DVD. To understand this song, you have to know a little bit about the punk movement. During these times the music press pushed a lot of different movements in music. Such as the psychedelic movement for example. During the late 60's and through the 70's the hippy movement was dying off, things became more darker and more serious. A lot of stars from the hippy movement was dead and there were riots and difficulties in Britain and the US. It was during this time that glam rock made an appearance, some people were tired of the serious mood, and glam was a method of escape from everyday life.
Another avenue for music alongside glam rock was progressive rock, it came from psychedelic rock. Progressive rock was about creating complex musical landscapes and concept albums.
It was about skill and experimentation adding classical elements to rock or adding synths. One prog rock song could easily be 30 minutes long. A heavier rock movement also started to develop at the time with bands such as Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. These were the main movements of rock during the late 60's and early 70's. Queen was always somewhere in between. They dressed with a touch of glam, but they were not a glam rock group because they did not play glam rock music. Their music was more of a mixture between progressive rock and the heavier rock sound, along with a bit vaudeville.
A new movement started developing in the working class environment around 1975, for more simplicity. Some people didn't like the idea that you needed years of training to play progressive rock, and they didn't like songs that were 30 minutes long, with artistic concept albums, it was seen as pretentious. The music press started pushing the new movement heavily. For them someone Bob Dylan was closer to the perfect idea of a rock star. Simplistic music about rebellion for the youth, 3 cord rock. The Ramones were the first punk band that appeared out of New York, it was a no nonsense attitude. No long guitar solos, short songs and you basically just screamed out your frustrations to the world.
Queen was a massive target for the musical press, they dressed in glam and did progressive rock. The Rolling Stone Magazine hates Queen to this day, because they don't fit into this mold. The Rolling Stone had written some of their worst reviews ever of Queen's albums. For their News of The World album Queen did strip down some of their sound. But they also made this parody song - Sheer Heart Attack. The song just basically mocks the whole punk movement as being brainless or brain dead. There are some awesome live versions of this song, where Freddie goes really punk for a moment or two, such in Paris 1979 czcams.com/video/_YK-kaMN3g4/video.html Hammersmith Odeon 1979 czcams.com/video/I3UqaiGH1Yw/video.html. Live at Milton Keynes Bowl 1982 czcams.com/video/fz-n6GYwAcE/video.html
Here is an example of how The Rolling Stone Magazine rated Queen's Jazz album form 1978, this gives you an idea what Queen was up against at the time:
There’s no Jazz on Queen’s new record, in case fans of either were worried about the defilement of an icon. Queen hasn’t the imagination to play jazz - Queen hasn’t the imagination, for that matter, to play rock & roll. Jazz is just more of the same dull pastiche that’s dominated all of this British supergroup’s work: tight guitar/bass/drums heavy-metal clichés, light-classical pianistics, four-part harmonies that make the Four Freshmen sound funky and Freddie Mercury’s throat-scratching lead vocals.
Anyway, it shouldn’t be surprising that Queen calls its album “jazz.” The guiding principle of these arrogant brats seems to be that anything Freddie & Company want, Freddie & Company get. What’s most disconcerting about their arrogance is that it’s so unfounded: Led Zeppelin may be as ruthless as medieval aristocrats, but at least Jimmy Page has an original electronic approach that earns his band some of its elitist notions. The only thing Queen does better than anyone else is express contempt.
Take the LP’s opening song, “Mustapha.” It begins with a parody of a muezzin’s shriek and dissolves into an approximation of Arabic music. This is part of Queen’s grand design. Freddie Mercury is worldly and sophisticated, a man who knows what the muezzin sounds like. More to the point, you don’t. What trips the group up, as usual, is the music. “Mustapha” is merely a clumsy and pretentious rewrite of “Hernando’s Hideaway,” which has about as much to do with Middle Eastern culture as street-corner souvlaki.
But it’s easy to ascribe too much ambition to Queen. “Fat Bottomed Girls” isn’t sexist - it regards women not as sex objects but as objects, period (the way the band regards people in general). When Mercury chants, in “Let Me Entertain You,” about selling his body and his willingness to use any device to thrill an audience, he isn’t talking about a sacrifice for his art. He’s just confessing his shamelessness, mostly because he’s too much of a boor to feel stupid about it.
Whatever its claims, Queen isn’t here just to entertain. This group has come to make it clear exactly who is superior and who is inferior. Its anthem, “We Will Rock You,” is a marching order: you will not rock us, we will rock you. Indeed, Queen may be the first truly fascist rock band. The whole thing makes me wonder why anyone would indulge these creeps and their polluting ideas.

@@marggie4129 Yes, no doubt he was! The Rolling Stone has been absolutely terrible against Queen. And even recently they voted Queen as the second worst band that has been inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Fame. The worst two bands according to them is Queen and Rush. I think that tells you something. They don't like competent musicians, and people who appear intelligent at times.
Nothing has really changed this is part of an article from 2019:
"When popularity is factored in, Queen is the most overrated band in the history of pop music. This preposterous aggregation looked and sounded awful from the beginning, their music a pastiche of pastiches of things no one in the band were inclined to understand, all of it culminating in “We Will Rock You.” Queen haters love to say the song is appropriate for a Nuremburg rally, but you can also sort of see Leni Riefenstahl giving it a listen, cocking her head and saying, “Nein. A little too much.” Their popularity in the U.S. went down quickly after their heyday, but they remained unaccountable super-duper-stars in the U.K. and in time became the rock equivalent to the beloved ugly toy you had when you grew up."

Funny reaction on this one. This is Freddie's encore outfit. The album version is Roger and Freddie sharing and combining lead vocal. On stage Roger rarely sang lead though, as he's drumming and doing backing vocal. Roger had an incredible voice. Many of his songs are worth reacting to, Fun It, Drowse, Rock It, In love with My Car etc. Freddie always got a little crazy doing this song. I love it!

This was them trying to prove to bands (and their fans) like the Sex Pistols who thought Queen were outdated and uncool that they could also do punk, lol. Queen had been around for a while at this point and the music scene was changing - this wasn’t from their first album but quite a bit later in their career. Freddie may have had a minor argument with Sid Vicious 😂.

Hi!! Your reactions are so much fun. But let me tell you this song is not from Queen's first album. In fact you got the others songs you mentioned a little mixed up. "Liar" is from the first album, yes. "Dragon attack" is from the 8th album and "Sheere heart attact" from the 6th album. And yes, Freddie always goes over the top with this song. It's more, in hammersmith '79 he can't finish to sing the song because brokes his mic, haha

The Montreal concert has a long story. It was filmed over two nights and Queen did not own the film rights. They were passive aggressive about the intrusiveness of the cameras. To prevent them from taking film from each night and splicing it into one performance, Freddie wore the shorts the second night. Throughout the concert, he is making comments about the security and the cameras.

A bit confusing; Shear Heart Attack album is the 3rd album 1974, the actual song was released on News of the world 1977 during the punk era. Not the craziest they have done on stage. Some you will not find on the internet other than audio, Sometimes What happened in a Queen concert stayed at a Queen concert... one that comes to mind is Madison Square Gardens...wouldn’t fly today, surprised they got away with it in the seventies. Cool cat (funky)
Ride the Wild Wind (simply awesome drumming)
    Invisible Man (great bass line)
Last Horizon (live in Sheffield, guitar only track, no vocals)
