Puppies are excited to run up the stairs and jump in the tub. They get so happy about bath time I let them run up and jump in this once. Again, I let them run up this ONCE. I know some of you have shown concern for the pups back health, i appreciate all the concern. I love my pups and yes I indeed carry them up the stairs when it's time for a bath. They are mostly only upstairs for baths.
For those still concerned for my dogs' back health, it's been 6 years since I've lived in a 2 story home. 8 years later and their back health is perfectly fine. They are spoiled happy pups ❤️.
Also, they still love baths and swimming.
Mine is 12. 12 years of trying and failing to keep her from climbing and jumping off the couch and bed. No issues.

How CUTE! Dachshunds are my absolute favorite doggies. I've never seen any pups so excited about a bath. I like how it looks and sounds like they are peeling out as they head up the stairs and make that first turn. I appreciate that you explained your care and caution for your pups in your summary. Thank you for taking the time and reading the description. Lol I don't even live in a 2 story house anymore and I'm still getting lectures lol. You would think that child gate was an indication that they were not allowed upstairs though.
I'm laughing so hard at your babies racing up to jump into the bath. If my dogs even get a slight inkling of a bath, they dive under the house where we can't fit and no matter what we do, they won't come out! I'm so envious!!😂😂😂

like she doesn't know about their backs people! We have a doxie, it's not the jumping UP that can damage the spine (it stretches it) it's the jumping DOWN that can cause the damage!
Yep, that jumping down action can hurt various breeds. It did damage to my mom's dog....I wasn't aware of it until her dog was about 6 years old when I noticed mom had no step stool next to her bed (dog slept in bed with mom). I then suggested mom get a stool placed next to bed (she did so 1 month later). Nevertheless, the dog did suffer painful back problems 2 times during the last year of her life (died at age 12).

when i first got them on their first bath I had the water at their knee level. For the first few baths i would give them kibble while in the water while praising. nothing motivates a dachshund for than dinner time :P slowly i would increase the water level. Also I made sure the house and the water was a little warm. I think its the cold that they would hate the most

I used to worry about mine when I first got him. He really likes trying to walk on his back legs and sits up like a meerkat. Multiple vets assured me the best thing is when they are young to strengthen their backs by allowing this, so when they are older they are less at risk for back related probs! We just worry so much about our furry babies :)
It is true. My daschund is ancient old with white hair and he is storm as a rock. He is a freak of nature because I have had him for more then 12 Years and still jumps and runs perfect.
Stairs aren't good for them. It looked like you used both hands to toss her in the bath though which is good!
My dachshund ran and jumped perfectly fine for all 12 years of her life, until the last month or so when her health really deteriorated before she keeled over and died.
My dachshund became fully paralyzed (took 1 month after first symptoms) in the back legs at age ~5 yrs but miraculously showed signs of movement after 4 months of nothing changing and was walking normally after 1 month and a few months later was rock solid and ran and jumped perfectly for the next 5 years until he died of old age. Never give up on a paralyzed dog even if it seems hopeless.
Definitely get your pups some ramps! My doxie just recovered from his 2nd episode with IVDD after almost losing the ability to walk. Stairs and furniture are an absolute NO! You can use storage container lids or gates to block access to furniture like you do with the stairs.

Very cute but VERY dangerous to let dachshunds jump or even run up stairs. My little guy looks exactly like the long haired red and he had to have over $5000 worth of back surgery to save him--well worth it, but.....
mini or full size? i've got a couple of mini pups that do it all the time, the bigger one i'm a little worried about (15lbs at 6mo, already past mini) but what i read online seems to suggest that it's ok if you let them do it from a young age. this worries me.
@@cabasse_music nope is incorrect. Mine got the surgery 2 spinal discs. Nearly got paralized. Got rehabilitation therapy and now walks and run more or less like before. NEVER EVER LET TEM JUMP, MAKE STAIRS. NEVER! And in fact it less risky when they become over 7 old cause the spinal bone calcificate completely and its more difficult to have ernias or any back problems. That said never let them jump or make stairs.

i see back surgery in there future if you keep making them do all them high jumps which cost about 5000 bucks what happens if you can't afford the surgery if it gets to that they would probably have to be put down something to think about in the future i have to doxies of my own and theyve blown out some discs in their backs but luckily bounced back ok.

My Dachsund is mixed with a mini dober man pincher(i think i spelled that right) so he has long legs and he loves exercise. Would it affect his back since he has long legs?

Dont let em jump like that, it will do their back in over time, my wiener had to take meds for a few months to cure it. Thats the good news, it can be treated but is very painful for the first couple of hours until you see a vet
Although adorable, stair climbing and jumping like that into the tub is horrible for their backs. Please prevent them from doing that as much as possible to guard against IVDD in the future.
Completely agree, dachshunds should not be allowed to climb stairs and certainly not jump into bathtubs. Trust me, we have 2 boys and one had to have a major op and we never let them climb stairs now. Its lovely to see them enjoying their bath time though..
