Piston for a Briggs lawnmower cast totally from JB Weld. Vid shows a night time run with a clear plexiglass head also. I created this video with the CZcams Video Editor ( / editor )
The engine running with the plexiglass head is some of the most beautiful things I've seen recently. Except for that blonde in the store a couple of weeks ago I can't get ouf of my head.
Good stuff JB weld, I once filled a rotted through cylinder head (inside combustion chambers) on a girlfriends Isuzu just as a temporary fix until another head could be found but two years later it was still running fine and the car got traded in. Never leaked a drop, I also sealed several otherwise scrapped porous overbored big block race engines with it, just prior to honing, squeegie JB in with a steel ruler, then blade scrape the surface after it sets prior to honing, and afterwards both then passed pressure test and ran long. Brilliant stuff.
thanks, glad you like them, always nice to know the vids are appreciated, as they take a fair amount of time to prepare. My danged Mystery motor has been dragging on for months!
This is amazing I knew JB weld was strong. I was in a big motocross race and had a rock knock a hole in my yz450 crank case and it held to last the motos for the 2nd day but jb weld as a whole piston this is amazing best video i seen on youtube in along time.
My dad swears by jb weld. I got a hand-me-down Jeep from him, the freeze plug and freeze plug hole had rotted out, so we kept patching it with jb weld. It would hold up very well for a couple of months until the hole would get worse, and then we'd slap more on it, and it would run for a couplemore months. Keep in mind I delivered pizzas in it so it saw HEAVY use. I miss that jeep, I would've put a new engine in it had it been in better overall better shape. That was my first vehicle, and thanks to dad and jb weld, it lasted WAY longer than it should have 😂
I stripped a bolt hole in my aluminium moped carter, just under the cylinder. I use JB weld to hold the bolt in place. After 1000km still looks good. I am really surprised about the resistance of it.
Yes, JB is good stuff, many years ago a friend hit a curb and broke part of the motor of his scooter, i used JB to epoxy it back in place, and the bike ran fine for a few years afterwards.
That is the coolest thing I've seen all day. I won't be trying it on a car engine anytime soon but, if I wind up trapped on deserted island, I want you along to help build the boat.
I made a motorcycle altenator case for a dirt bike. Actually it was the center tranny case that I made, Just a 4" x 2" piece. What happened was it threw the chain and it must have broke just before it went over the counter-shaft shaft sprocket. I used tin foil and duct tape for the mold. Then the next day I put a big blob where the 3rd bolt for the altenator cover would go and drilled the blob and tapped treads into into it. It didn't leak a drop of oil at all and I rode it for a whole summer every day up and down the power lines. And I thought I was the man!!!!!!! Wow,,,,You outdid me 100 fold. And I agree with RhodeIslandMachines & RED3978.... You should send this to JB Weld to get sponsored.. Good Job
I find this interesting because it was I who said that you would probably end up casting a cylinder head out of JB Weld. Instead, you did a piston, which is perfectly satisfactory.
thank you for doing this. you are a great man of practical science. i haven't watched it yet so i don't know what happens, but this experiment will negate a vast deluge of hooplah either way it goes. once again, thank you.
a better test would be at 3600 rpm, with an air filter, so that we can see how long it lasts at normal operating parameters. :-) im not judging, im not picking holes. im Very interested :-) :-)
Sounds like you watch "Red Green" LOL, yeah for sure JB weld and Duct tape. And if the ladies don't find ya handsome, they should atleast find ya handy!
Well, ask a Specialist Firm like mine, and I'm certain you could arrange something. You'd need a very Temperature Resistant Epoxy and probably Mill it out of a Solid Block. I think you could try a couple of things in Fact. A GRP Piston which could actually be made inside a Mold, A Milled Laminated Hard Paper Piston A Milled Laminated Hard Paper Piston with a couple of Layers of Carbon Fibre on Top as Heat Shield. A wound Carbon Fibre in which you have a Small, Cylindrical Core around which the Carbon Layers are laminated into a Piston shape. Not wound, but as Rings with 180° Radial Displacement.
No lie, I actually started on a project where I JB welded small aluminum plates on top of some pistons in a Miata. Unfortunately RL shit hit hard and fast while it was still disassembled and now the block is rusted and the head is all jacked up. Props to you showing that, at least in theory, it could've worked like I had imagined. At least for a bit ;)
Sorry to hear life got in the way of your cool sounding project. that has happened to me a few more times recently than I would like. Just tonight my wife informs me our Saturn is kicking up again (the same one that snapped the timing chain last fall). It finally made the wierd noise for me when I started it, I suspect it is the belt tensioner biting it. Murpy's law, after I just spent 5 hours welding up the exhaust system Saturday. If this stuff keeps up, I will be riding a bicycle 15 miles to work!
boy that sure does look pretty lit up at night... considering like it looks like a constant fire ball in the combustion chamber, its amazing that these engines work at all to me
Yes, that has been an ongoing joke here on youtube, I use an old mustard container to hold gas to prime the engine. Someone suggested that Dijon mustard would be high octane, so I went with it, the started calling it Mustard gas. I guess the idea has caught on, as a local small engine shop uses a mustard container for priming also :)
Yes, it was smelling rather nasty while it was running, the only one comparable was the plastic piston. The wooden piston crowns had a much better smell to them!
I'm considering doing videos like this. I'd like to see what would happen if you put a few metal shavings inside a cylinder via the spark plug hole it would be cool to see what that would do if someone did that to a engine
What did u put as the piston rings? Did u use the actual piston ring? I notice only one ring alot. I'm surprised it ran so well I wonder what the psi is. Awesome video man
I had friends that used to race shifter karts and they had worn out cylinders and they lined them with J-B Weld all the time and it would last for the race so they were good
Good idea dammm boy now am gonna run to auto zune and get like 45 tubes off jb,weld lol I have a cracked crankshaft case from a honda cr250r dirt bike and am gonna use jb weld to fixt it thanks alot I give u 5 star's brooo
My son actually suggested I do JB piston, right after I made the plastic piston a few months back, but I figured the plastic piston would cover that area of interest, I see that I was wrong, as this is becoming popular.
Thanks, I hear some people on facebook don't think it is all JB Weld, but it is, I have the 1/2 empty 5 oz tubes to prove it! One thing is for sure, it is somewhat heaver than an aluminum piston, as i beefed up the crown and skirt areas.
Yes, I was glad to see it ran so well, after i invested the $10 for the JB, plus an hour and a half sanding it into shape, as it was egg shaped for some reason.
That's horrifying and I'm not sure I would walk behind that time bomb. Edit:: I see this is just proof of concept. In that regard, that's a really cool way to evaluate the combustion condition's effect on different materials!
LOL, if you like this, watch my latest JB Weld Engine vids. I was playing it safe with it though, I made the cylinder wall about 1 inch thick! A grenading engine is something I can do without!
Who else thought this was a video from Project Farm?
noah burkhardt i actually did to lol
noah burkhardt
I thought so as well.
I did. I enjoy watching them both to be honest.
Yep
Yes on the project Farm video. Although i was quite suprised it ran as long as it did This entire. Series has been a. Big learning Experience
need to get JB weld as a sponsor lol
I hear you!
why do you weld a piston. Just curious, haha.
JB weld is an epoxy used to repair a lot of stuff and he made the entire piston out of it.
No doubt! Except for the fact that it failed within a couple hours of use (you don't see that part)... :/
It was not made to do what it did,,,but I thought it was awesome that it even ran.
The engine running with the plexiglass head is some of the most beautiful things I've seen recently. Except for that blonde in the store a couple of weeks ago I can't get ouf of my head.
LOL, yes some blonds can get stuck in your head! Though my favorite in high school was a jaw dropping brunette named Donna ! :)
I prefer redheads
I prefer head
I have suggestion how about an entire engine made of jbweld
People seem to be liking this idea.
ChargerMiles007 I second that.
I approve this post
The fact that you don't have more views is a damn shame. Let's make this guy famous his channelDeserves it!
Thanks for your support!
ChargerMiles007 sending the link to Reddit

very cool, how bout a stone piston?
so whats the outcome of this jb weld experiment ?? ..
PooorMan-DIY well it’s been 2 years since I watched it so I do t remember but considering it’s epoxy I’m gunna say it failed after a few minutes
Wooden connecting rod!!
still working on that.
JBWeld has saved my ass a few times over the years, but this is ridiculous. Interesting and funny project.
Very well done! You have disproved about 1,000 naysayers. I use JB Weld for just about everything and it works very well.
>mustard gas
Lol
Will this fit in my Honda... It's basically the same engine.
nope it ain't
Power feels pretty close, this engine might outdo my honda just a little.
Eric Fixalot you might be on to something😂😂💀
I hope so, I've already started the swap. It's a lot of work fitting that monster in there.
You mean Harley (aka briggs and davidson)
I love these videos! they always amaze me. Thanks!
thanks, glad you like them, always nice to know the vids are appreciated, as they take a fair amount of time to prepare. My danged Mystery motor has been dragging on for months!
This is just too cool! I couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire video. I'm STILL smiling like a fool!
I'm so glad I saw this on my FB feed today
Glad you liked it
This was possibly one of the coolest CZcams videos I have ever seen great job
Thanks. You might like the vid where I cut the grass using this piston, it held up for 3 minutes, then tore the piston pin bosses out of the bottom!
cooler than the other side of the pillow!
This is amazing I knew JB weld was strong. I was in a big motocross race and had a rock knock a hole in my yz450 crank case and it held to last the motos for the 2nd day but jb weld as a whole piston this is amazing best video i seen on youtube in along time.
Yes, I have used it to repair a crankcase also, excellent stuff, i have been using it, or a similar epoxy for about 40 years.
That plexi head would be the ultimate carshow accessory to have on an old Cushman Eagle.
Kind of like "Ghost Rider's Eagle".
Good video!
EXCELLENT!!! Thanks for showing the results first.
My dad swears by jb weld. I got a hand-me-down Jeep from him, the freeze plug and freeze plug hole had rotted out, so we kept patching it with jb weld. Thanks
This reminds me of Project Farm's channel where he made an entire cylinder head out of JB Weld.
That is the coolest thing I've seen all day. I won't be trying it on a car engine anytime soon but, if I wind up trapped on deserted island, I want you along to help build the boat.
LOL :) Thank you for your support! it might be like a scene from "Flight of the Phoenix", where they build an airplane from parts of another one :)
what a time to be alive!
I made a motorcycle altenator case for a dirt bike. Actually it was the center tranny case that I made, Just a 4" x 2" piece. thanks for your JB project, sounds as though it worked very well ! i will see what I can do to get JB interested.
I find this interesting because it was I who said that you would probably end up casting a cylinder head out of JB Weld. Instead, you did a piston, which is perfectly satisfactory.
LOL, my son suggested it also, but what gave me the final push was the guy that made the JB head. I think I may do another project out of JB :)
that plexiglass head is AWESOME.. man that jb weld can take a pounding
amazing footage of the combustion process
Thanks for the video! Well done and very interesting. You should certainly be a teacher!
thank you for doing this. you are a great man of practical science. i haven't watched it yet so i don't know what happens, but this experiment will negate a vast deluge of hooplah either way it goes. once again, thank you.
You are welcome.
a better test would be at 3600 rpm, with an air filter, so that we can see how long it lasts at normal operating parameters. :-) im not judging, im not picking holes. im Very interested :-) :-)
I was planning to do that, but after a test to destruction you can't easily run it again, so I decided to make a few shorter runs with this.
Just plain ol' JB? How about the extreme heat stuff?
Pretty cool that it worked, wouldn't say it's practical, but it's definitely cool to see something like JB Weld do the job of being a piston... :D
Yes, I know many of my experiments are not practical, sometimes I just do them for the heck of it.
your channel....... Gold!
Might smoke less with oil rings
Yes, that is true.
That clear plexiglass head is so cool, have a like! :)
Yes, it ia cool to watch it for real, as you can see it so much better than the camera records.
JB Weld: The new must have for any handyman, confirmed in this video
JB Weld, and duct tape, both are the Handyman's Secret Weapons! :)
Sounds like you watch "Red Green" LOL, yeah for sure JB weld and Duct tape.
And if the ladies don't find ya handsome, they should atleast find ya handy!
@@ChargerMiles007 can I ask what if you used the extreme temperature JB Weld, or the Cold Original?
Nice work, that's awesome!!
Thanks, great job building that distributor tester, wish I had one of those last summer for the Straight 8 !
oh that's funny "mustard" gas!😂LMAO
Yes, I use the mustard container to store gas for priming, so I call it mustard gas :)
how about a carbon fibre piston?
good luck making that.
Once upon a time Aluminium or Aluminum was also not done right?
Or is that something else?
Well, ask a Specialist Firm like mine, and I'm certain you could arrange something. You'd need a very Temperature Resistant Epoxy and probably Mill it out of a Solid Block.
I think you could try a couple of things in Fact.
A GRP Piston which could actually be made inside a Mold,

A wound Carbon Fibre in which you have a Small, Cylindrical Core around which the Carbon Layers are laminated into a Piston shape. Not wound, but as Rings with 180° Radial Displacement.
carbon would burn
Would determinate and melt or burn
Wanted to see if jb weld would hold my transmission in place. I think it will. Thanx for the vid
that piston is beautiful
Check out my new JB con rod :)
A-FUCKING-MAZING!!!!!!! The nighttime run made my jaw drop!!!!
what a great channel! thanks

The noble art of Shed.
Makes me feel a lot better about my yz250 rebuild intervals
top greade entertainment sir! BRAVO!
Just Awesome, thank you for this video.
you are welcome.
very nice job.
The mustard gas bottle was hilarious
Yes, that has been an ongoing joke here on youtube, I use an old mustard container to hold gas to prime the engine. I guess the idea has caught on, as a local small engine shop uses a mustard container for priming also :)
im shocked they run as good as they do so goood job casting them i bet the fumes of that jbweld piston getting hot when runing
Yes, it was smelling rather nasty while it was running, the only one comparable was the plastic piston. The wooden piston crowns had a much better smell to them!
ChargerMiles007 lol nice
Very nice very handy and pressed thank you.
wow that looks awesome.. Plexiglas...man.
Yes, the plexi is holding up pretty well.
I love the pressure vessel. I might try that.
Just be careful, even 50psi could blow the lid off hard enough to kill someone (think of the area of the lid time 50psi )
wow! love it! great job!
Thanks, i am glad it didn't let go during the 3 runs :)
I'm considering doing videos like this. I'd like to see what would happen if you put a few metal shavings inside a cylinder via the spark plug hole it would be cool to see what that would do if someone did that to a engine
You should bring this to the company and ask for compensation for displaying how well JB Weld actually works!
LOL :) Perhaps they will approach me, you never know.
What did u put as the piston rings? Did u use the actual piston ring? I notice only one ring alot. I'm surprised it ran so well I wonder what the psi is. Awesome video man
I used a regular piston compression ring, i didn't bother with an oil ring, as i thought it would help having the extra lube.
Pretty kool experiment...
I wonder how it holds up under load.
I will give it a try cutting the grass, soon!
I had friends that used to race shifter karts and they had worn out cylinders and they lined them with J-B Weld all the time and it would last for the race so they were good
That is good to know!
Great video
Thanks
Think those excessive sparks in the cylinder are due to the JB Weld?
I really thought it would fail catastrophically, boy was I wrong. If it can be used as a piston, a whole engine can be built. Thanks for the vid.s
You are welcome. Yes, the piston lasted well, much better than the connecting rod.
I JB Welded a pistion with a hole in it just to get the sled out of the bush, the gasket out of a pack of smokes too.
Was this just an experiment, or was it a replacement? If it was a replacement how long did it last?
Good idea dammm boy now am gonna run to auto zune and get like 45 tubes off jb,weld lol I have a cracked crankshaft case from a honda cr250r dirt bike and am gonna use jb weld to fixt it thanks alot I give u 5 star's brooo
No, no, get online, and buy the 5 ounce professional size, it will save you a mint! Seriously.
That's awesome.
Someone please make a JB Weld V8 cylinder block!
Or a single rotor rotary engine that's 100% JB would be funny as hell, too.
Interesting and very cool..
that's some funny shit !!!!! thanx for your work .
Thanks for watching, I just uploaded my 4 valve Briggs engine!
Great effort,! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🇬🇧
Thanks
Fantastic!
Thanks
whole engine jb weld!!
This idea seems to be getting more votes!
I'd like to see how the JB weld piston holds up if you mixed powdered ceramic tile with it.
Yes, i bet that would increase its heat resistance.
Forged? Will it survive a nitrous hit?
take some round bar make an inner and outer hoop weld to the pressure vessel top and some spines between the to to reduce the bowing
great idea... where did this one come from ...?
My son actually suggested I do JB piston, right after I made the plastic piston a few months back, but I figured the plastic piston would cover that area of interest, I see that I was wrong, as this is becoming popular.
nice work
Thanks, I hear some people on facebook don't think it is all JB Weld, but it is, I have the 1/2 empty 5 oz tubes to prove it! One thing is for sure, it is somewhat heaver than an aluminum piston, as i beefed up the crown and skirt areas.
Very Cool!
Lots of FUN!!
Yes, I was glad to see it ran so well, after i invested the $10 for the JB, plus an hour and a half sanding it into shape, as it was egg shaped for some reason.
Suggest using a parting compound like Talc powder
Yes, that would help, for sure. i have tried that in the past with good results. Sometimes i just get in too big of a hurry :)
Whats the biggest amount of jb weld i can buy in a container
good job.. thats sweet..
That's cool !!!
Very cool
Thanks
this proves that jb weld is a building material. wonder if it will fit my 440
I think it would be rather small for a 440! :)
That's horrifying and I'm not sure I would walk behind that time bomb.
Edit:: I see this is just proof of concept. In that regard, that's a really cool way to evaluate the combustion condition's effect on different materials!
you deserve just as may subscribes as project farm
thanks
Great Test 😎👍🏼😮
Thanks
If MacGyver only knew about the flying qualities of JB Weld we would have seen some amazing things
LOL :)
Props to you to I was pretty freakin impressed
Didn't they run a type of plastic piston with an aluminum top in some of the high performance Indy type engines a while back? Just wondering, Greg.
I am honestly not sure, though it sounds like a possibility.
Next challenge: Make a particle accelerator entirely out of JB Weld!
LOL
Ok we have a jb weld piston, jb weld head, now lets build the rest of the motor
Everything about this screams ticking explosion.....I'm in! Lol
LOL, if you like this, watch my latest JB Weld Engine vids. I was playing it safe with it though, I made the cylinder wall about 1 inch thick! A grenading engine is something I can do without!
next make a jb weld con rod, or a cam or a crank, its jb weld, i would love to see what it can do
That clear cylinder head is amazing. If only you could do that with a V8 engine.
that is cool!
