Thank you for that feedback! You're right. This tip is more about the psychology of playing and practice and less concrete. It is my experience that if when I have a problem with my left hand, e.g. my intonation is unreliable, or I often miss the shift, then if I focus on the bow arm with a specific instruction, it can miraculously free my left hand to do what it must do. I think we can easily psyche ourselves out and mess up only because we are becoming anxious about the difficulty of the left hand. It doesn't work to tell ourselves "Relax, don't think about that scary shift you might make". It works much better to have a constructive thought directed to the "other hand".
