In a discussion facilitated by Ginger Gorman, Jeni Haynes will be talking about her book, The Girl in the Green Dress.
Described as 'unforgettable', The Girl in the Green Dress is a memoir from a woman who refused to be silenced. After enduring many years of abuse, Jeni fought to create a life for herself and bring her father to justice in a history-making ruling. In speaking out, Jeni's courage would see many understand Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) for the first time.
    About the book
An intelligent, poised woman, Jeni Haynes sat in court and listened as the man who had abused her from birth, a man who should have been her protector, a man who terrified her, was jailed for a non-parole period of 33 years. The man was her father.
The fact Jeni survived is testament to the extraordinary strength of her mind. What saved her was the process of dissociation - Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) - a defence mechanism that saw Jeni create over 2,500 separate personalities, or alters, who protected her as best they could from the trauma.
With the support of her psychiatrist Dr George Blair-West, Jeni fought to create a life for herself and bring her father to justice.

"Horrific" is not a strong enough word to describe what Dr. Jeni Haynes experienced as a child. I don't think there IS a word strong enough. She is truly a remarkable woman not only for her relentless pursuit of justice, but for devoting her life to helping others.

How awful. I didn't realise that for legal reasons she'd had to basically pretend the abuse ended when she was 11, when in fact he carried on abusing her for several years after they left Australia. Just unbelievable.

I absolutely LOVE to see Jeni healing, thriving, telling her story, being succesful and most of all, being happy and enjoying life! Utmost admiration for this woman and all of her alters, I wish I had a tiny amount of the courage she has. Jeni, if you're reading this, I wish you all the best, and thank you for working so hard!

I just read this book. I am close with someone with DID, who I have known since childhood, and while I understood it before and have been able to upkeep relationships with this person and his alters, every aspect of this gave me a deeper understanding of the workings of DID/MPD and the mechanics behind it. Thank you for telling your story - it was an extremely hard read but invaluable to me.

Jeni Haynes, her courage, her beauty, her story, they now live in my heart and give courage, beauty and hope to my own story. I thank God that she survived to give us this hope, this awesome revelation of pure humanity. Jeni Haynes demonstrates that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

As male with DID if the mouth says it and body act on it we own. People with our disorder will take ownership of the failures of others when it was never our fault. We over compensate in this area and take on other people baggage.

It has not been called Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD)since the 1970s, but movies have always used MPD as the label. Thus, it became a "layman's" term.
The disorder now is called "Dissociative Identity Disorder" and is more conducive and better descriptor of the disorder. The alters are not just facets of personalities, but their own people that share the body.
