  • Unimogs are one of the coolest European offload vehicles on the planet. They are military grade quality and they are famous for their portal axles.
    This bad ass Unimog RV caught my eye at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff Arizona.
    A company from the Netherlands called www.blissmobile.com builds the RV section and a company called www.couchoffroad.com takes old stock Unimogs and builds them up to be better than new.

    Typical cruising speed for that Unimog is a happy and quiet 65mph, but they topped out at 78.6 with a slight tail wind. The Continental AC70 tires are magical,quiet, smooth, uncompromising traction and really expensive. We did have a short lived oil leak on the front portals after we installed the CTIS system/ leak on the inner front tires,that is no longer.
    5.9 liter set at a true 270hp DIN, high speed axles ,overdrive, working and crawler gears/48 speed all reservable!!!, new series high oil capacity portals 70 gal. Diesel, 117 gal water and enough lithium ion to power a couple Telsas!

      I thinking that myself. Couldn't see this going 80 unless it was downhill. I didn't realize that you could that much of a performance upgrade on the engine either.

      Reviving an old video (that I just came across)...is that $135K for the whole rig, or just the Mog, or just the habitat? That seems reasonable. As least as far as these overland monsters go.

      @tombeno8746 Před 6 lety

      Whoops, I just read deeper into the comments and see that that $135K number is way off...

    Ok, I have been able to view this video which is great, just two things, the roll bar that you have just mentioned is actually used as a branch or bush deflector for the windscreen as well, then the snorkel is not just for the water crossing but its main purpose is for clean fresh air when traveling on those dusty/sandy road or across Deserts, this way your air filter don't clog up as regular and you have the loss of engine power.

    That rig was sweet...glad she clarified the price...Jay Couch told us the truck was around $80k as it sits...so the whole rig is still under 1/2 of an Earthroamer! Jay and the owner of BlissMobil were both there to answer questions...amazing really!

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip  Před 7 lety

      Colorado4x4Van I didn't know Jay Couch was there? I would have liked to have interviewed him.

    • @Colorado4x4Van
      @Colorado4x4Van Před 7 lety

      Yep...my wife and I quizzed the owners and Jay for 45 minutes or so...he was much younger than I thought he'd be...lol...or I'm getting old! The black Mog in the parking lot with the Rokon on the back was his personal Mog. We also talked with George Bull who had the military Mog in the Special Vehicle section for almost 4 hours one evening...he drove that rig from New Hampshire to the show and back! Very interesting guy with a ton of great stories about driving across Africa! Maybe we'll see you there next year! Our Van made Outside Magazine's article for the Expo!

    The 'Roll-Bar', Is not a Roll-Bar. It clears branches away from the windscreen that would otherwise smash it.

    • @sesarman

      it seems like a bit more considering its diameter...?

  • @benekaiwi1
    @benekaiwi1 Před 6 lety +7

    I don't think that's a roll bar. I think its to deflect branches from the windshield when in the woods.

  • @thegan9143
    @thegan9143 Před 5 lety

    They ran it up to 80 mph, did they push it off a cliff? I think thats about the only way you'd get that rig with those tires over 60 mph. Maybe they meant 80 km/h?

    The want level is high here. You sure it was 80 mp/h and not 80 kp/h? I thought they had limited top speed of 90 km/h. Ive been wrong before though.

    • @jarretthavercamp2114
      @jarretthavercamp2114 Před 7 lety +2

      Couch Engineering equipped this Unimog with "Fast Axles" (faster ring and pinion gear ratio), added a 22% ( I believe) overdrive unit that is air selectable between all the gears effectively splitting every gear by 22%. Then they worked their magic on the OM366LA Turbo Diesel motor and squeezed 270HP out of it. So it will do a legitimate 75 miles per hour, not kp/h.

    Unimogs are NOT necessary military trucks!
    These are build as multipurpose trucks, which is the German translation of universal motor Gerät.
    Btw these are ~20.000€ trucks. No biggy. The rest is just the Cabin and stuff.

    • @mixwellusa
      @mixwellusa Před 3 lety

      Separate from the box, this truck has had quite a bit of work, though.

  • @rwells3376
    @rwells3376 Před 6 lety +3

    So the currency conversion makes it $156k US, plus the VAT, which I'm not sure which it is, but either 6% or 21% probably the higher of the two, and you still have to buy the truck, a used unimog will cost you between $20k and $50k depending on age and condition. So let's see this small 13' offroad camper will cost you between $165k and $238K plus shipping from the netherlands. I don't know about everyone else but that's just too much for what you get.
