Beautiful transcription, it gives this powerful finale an almost Messiaen-like dreaminess. I love it!
Aaaaaaaah ! ... This guy is incredible ... All Mahler is HERE !!!
Thank you for this! For decades I've day dreamed of the Adagio with organ, and now have heard it. I believe Gustav approves.
This is a superb transcription. This is by far one of my absolute favorite pieces of music, and I say well done. I am also in love with this organ's sound. It's so rich and full of life. Definitely a good organ for this transcriptions. I fear others would not be able to do the piece justice!
Beautiful music. Fantastic arrangement. Very moving.
I sure am glad I ran into this.... Mr. Frey u hav just inspired a 17 year old Indian who has absolutly no chance of becoming a great organist like u.... U really did do this piece justice . Thanks for sharing .
Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your kind comments. And yes, that is indeed Cameron Carpenter assisting. He was very gracious in turning pages during my recital.
Mille merci à vous Alexander , ainsi qu' à votre amour pour Mahler ...
Thanks for sharing, Alex!
Interresting! Thank you!
Quite amazing.
Absolutely Beautiful. I don't know but am assured by my ears that they sampled some Skinner to make this organ. I had intimate knowledge of the Great One in the Mother Church in Boston. This instrument sounds sooo familiar though I doubt M&O got permission to sample that particular instrument. Is that Cameron Carpenter assisting? Probably not. That's an unspeakaby wonderful talent also. I LOVE Transcriptions!!!! Mr. Frey is brilliant!
From the very first time I heard this sublimely beautiful Adagio in the early 1960s I was immediately moved to tears and have always thought what a wonderful organ piece this would be. How moving it would be when played say, at a funeral service. I wonder if this transcription is available in print?
I've listened to it. I think transcriptionists are exceptionally brave souls. Mahler in particular I think is quite problematic because of the particular orchestrational style that it almost impossible to approximate. I've listened to quite a bit of what you have posted here on the Tube. I'll get to more as I get more time. I'm wanting to see some of your conducting as well.
I'll comment on your wonderful Dupre and Jongen perfomance on it's respective page. Keep up the wonderful work.
j' aurais aimé être à New York , dans cette église , ce jour là ... le genre de concert " unique " dans une vie ... et dont on ne sort pas indemne ...
Compelling. I wouldn't have thought it. Usually renderings of Mahler for an instrument miss his orchestration.
Il n' y a pas que Bach ...
