Strip the paint. Use the torch or a bonfire on the whole frame to develop more colors in the metal. The resulting patina will be uneven and rustic. Clear coat the bare frame. Place factory decals. It will look epic.
Ohhhhhh this is going to the top of the list!! MORE FIRE!!
Yeah! Play around with burning paint, oil, dyes, the stuff you dyed the S crankset, or adhesives into the metal for more varied colors. It’ll look like an unearthed artifact!
Yea totally! Go for this look.
Can we also get another sticker restock please? I keep missing out on my faves and the last ones sold way quicker than anticipated.
Great vids man, very enjoyable, thank you.
Sleeper, most definitely. I do like the slight burn to existing paint then clear coat for an original effect. Whatever you do it’ll be fun!
Sleeper for sure! Maybe even tape off the burnt area and paint it a bright colour to protect the bare metal
I love how your videos give a relaxing chill vibe. They make me want to relax and get to work on a bike at the same time.
Sleeper,of course😉👌....oh,another fun video!
Such a satisfying watch. Bigups. We live for these small wins 😊
Thank you! I was super happy.
That was quite exciting!!! Burning and lubing may have loosened the post, so that you didn't tear the seat tube! I like the previously mentioned idea of clearing over the burned paint. That's part of it's history.
One idea: you could have drilled the seatpost and put a long nout (like an 120mm M8 nut) through it - then clamp the post where the nut is so the nut stops the post rotating ing the vice
RAT BIKE no question
Such a sick bike shop.
I know I'm supposed to say sleeper, but I love your crazy paint jobs, and would love to see another.
Definetly #3. rat bike/sleeper style has alkways been my way to go on cars/vans/motorcycls or bicycles! DO IT!
Clear coat straight over the burnt bits ;)
Go for a burnt or heated paint effect, Take out the old paint. And definitely a modern groupset.
What I did after I got my seat tube out, was get the drill bit extension that you can use Allen keys to lock it down. Get some 1” cylinder flapper disks, and essentially hone out the seat tube. Use normal corrosion protection as well! Great job getting it out!
I need more info, what are 1" cylinder flapper discs?
Sleeping Rat-bike please, with decent mechanicals and saddle/bars to make 100 miles as comfortable as it can possibly be. You really captured the great atmosphere at Marlon’s in this video, thanks, I loved it.
nice work its hard to get a stuck seat post out usually the frame is toast👍
Nice work Marlon.
This was so satisfying
I’d like to know what sleeper ideas get into the comments ❤ number3 for sure!
Has anyone suggested dry ice (frozen CO2, available from plumbers merchants) yet? You use it to freeze the seatpost which causes it to shrink and once you have it as cold as possible you gently heat the frame/seat tube causeing it to expand. Alfredo Mancuso covered it on his channel "What Happens When You Freeze a Bike? This Shop Owner Finds Out!"
2nd Life Bike paint scheme 🔥
+1 for 2nd Life Bikes style paint
Sleeper for sure, leave that burn in it 👍👍
Thanks!
You're putting all this work into it and replacing parts, you should get the frame sand blasted then powder coat paint. Absolutely the most durable option that should get you many many more years with the bike and it won't become an eye sore again that you don't want to ride.
3, or....
4: fade in a contrasting colour, from the burnt bits to the turquoise
Sleeper +1❤
Number 2; do a cool mad paint job
Marlon’s a cool guy, that’s a great place he’s running. If the green booze lights didn’t sell, are they still up for sale? Thx
Sleeper for sure
Spotted Jack Luke from @BikeRadar in the background! This swap meet just turned into VidCon for bike nerds!
Success!👊
Sand to bare metal then spray with clear. No gun blue. If it should rust it'll just look cool.
3 Sleeper! Yes!
Sleeper rat bike all day everyday, bit more burning and some original paint here and there!
Would have helped to remove the orange jkt so viewers could see what you were doing. Yes, beware of internal corrision, particularly at the bottom brkt!, the tin worm never sleeps! :)
No 2 mad paint scheme 👌 pls
Mad paint job. But you do you.
I bought a vintage bonney jab saw for a stuck seat post. Second buy a diablo quality or similar higher quality hack saw blade to make job easier. Have patience as it takes a while
Almost forgot, make sure saw is long enough to cut full length of seatpost
I vote sleeper!
Might be here, might be there, won’t be anywhere lol
Rat bike or 4. Strip paint and use gun blue (old shovel did this a few years ago)
i tried that too after i saw the vid. looks cool AF when finished, but it def didn't stop any rust. may work in the desert tho.
@@ozenfant_ozn old shovel finished his with a clear coat.
Burn more paint of random as hell, hit it with 800-1000 grit, clear coat it in Matt, Advent X drivetrain, rear rack(they are cheap as, and really good on longer rides, fenders(even in the summer nothing worse than dog s+@t flying up at you) and then maybe budget build thinking, that way it could be a like “I built this bike to compete in this race and only spent ???? to do so, proper crusty. Maybe even go 26 X 1.5 for speed, running them at 70-80 psi will have you rolling very well.
Sleeper!!
3 👍
Let it be, but give it some decals
Just paint locally where you burnt it, maybe pink
Sleeper
Rat look - maybe burn the rest of the paint on the frame, then clear coat it to protect it - be proper ratty then!
Craig its got to be the rat. Making it look as scruffy as possible will not be easy but if you do a good bad job at least nobody will want to steal it
Rat bike sleeper!
Rat look for sure 👌
Ratter all the way mate, all day
Yeah, the rat bike given it's had a hard time recently
Rat bike - for sure!
Defo rat bike
