Teena Marie NEVER got her true recognition in the industry. Meanwhile we have far less talented that have many accolades and praise. Teena Believed in God and talked about it and she's in Heaven now....I wonder how many other famous people will get to see her in Heaven.

I saw her in concert, and she performed the HELL outta every single song. She was AMAZING. She was formidably talented - wrote music, composed lyrics, played several instruments, sang like no other, she could rap, she could scat, she produced, arranged, and performed like it was the last day of her life. My dad is a retired musician who possesses all of these same talents sans scatting, rapping, and producing (he never cut a record, only performed in clubs and created his own music), so I've seen the kind of work involved in all of these things that she did (sans scatting, rapping, and producing, of course).
It's 2020, and I'm still saddened by her loss. From Wild and Peaceful to Beautiful, her talent was robust and jumped out at you. She sang as if she was living her song as she sang, and with a BEAUTIFUL voice. A huge loss, but I'm grateful to have all of her music.

I was just telling my girlfriend about Teena Marie this past weekend, and how she'd been a pioneer of Blue-Eyed Soul. My girlfriend had never heard the term before, which led to a discussion of Marie and other White artists (such as Hall & Oates) who's music regularly crossed over to Black record charts back in the day. Nowadays, the practice is so commonplace as to virtually not exist.
We've gone from White singers in the 1950s and early '60s singing Black songs in decidedly non-soulful ways, to White singers in the '70s applying Black vocalists' styles (especially blues and jazz) to rock, to pop singers around the globe today mimicking what Black singers have been doing for decades. At best, it's a flattering imitation; at its worst it's appropriation. Either way, there's rarely acknowledgement of the influences, which is what keeps White singers at a distance from most Black audiences.
But Teena Marie sang with authenticity, and that's why we embraced her. It was clear what she'd heard and absorbed, and that resonated across the airwaves. In the world of 1980s radio, it didn't matter what she looked like -- she sounded like she belonged with us, and so she did.
Because of that, her legacy with Black America is secured.

Before Lady T's spirit ascended, she did a song on a yet to be released Album/CD of The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. The song title is Message To The Black Man. The Minister was close friends with many of the Motown Legends, in particular Marvin Gaye. He did the eulogies for David Ruffin and Rick James. Min. Farrakhan is a very accomplised musician in his on right, having started a music and entertainment career prior to joining the Nation Of Islam. There is a promo video on CZcams showcasing a documentary on Minister Farrakhan's life in Music. Teena Marie will be forever missed, her beautiful music and lovely spirit I will always remember, she never took her fans for granted. We as fans must keep our great artist's creations alive for the generations yet to come, for them to experience, love, admire and then inspire them to a higher level of artistry.

love, love, love Teena Marie. I love music, so you have to love her. I appreciate all kinds of sounds, but hers was special and unique. So sad she left so young.

These are beautiful awesome tributes to her, and like so many others it took me a few weeks to get myself together. My heart was broken, and I heard of her, but she left beautiful music and memories here for us to treasure, and I also hurt a little extra when I realize that she passed away the day after her daughter's birthday, which is on Christmas. God bless you you have the best treasure you have all the memories of your mom she loves you more than her music and that's everything

I sent a card out to an address in LA in care or Teena Marie..never done that for an artist before. Teena's poetic music and pitch perfect voice had a special place in my heart when I was growing up. After watching some of her old interviews on YT the last week and a half and see how much love many had for her, it only confirmed for me that she was an awesome, awesome person. Thankyou heavenly Father for the life of Teena Marie. RIP Lady T "Vanilla Soul Child".

@@melsmith2669 Hey Mel,. Yes I heard that her daughter can sing. I have not seen her performing any songs as of yet. Mel can you imagine Lady T's daughter is just as a powerful singer as her mom.😊

Author G D Grace - says - it is so disrespectful when people come on to postings like this and say hateful things. Teena is far beyond this life now... soar high, baby, soar high. Love you always. (Hugs)

Lisa Raye spoke from the heart as a loving mother would. She got really choked up thinking about Teena's daughter and her welfare. That shows how much she was loved.
