  • Quick modification of a standard .25" Diameter Flagpole to .22" to fit inside a Catrike Flag mount.
    You will need.
    1. A Drill preferably High Speed.
    2. Sandpaper
    3. Something or someone to hold the end of the flag steady.
So on my way to Baltimore I realzied I did not bring my flag with me. So I stopped a Tractor Supply on the way and bought a standard Go Kart flag. Once I got to Baltimore I realized that it would not fit due to the flag pole diameter being too large for the flag mount. So that day I rode without a flag.
Once I returned home I modded this pole to fit my Catrike flag mount. I ended up milling the pole with some sandpaper from .25" .226" which let it slip comfortably into the Mount.

Generic Terra Trike flag posts and Catrike flag posts fit fine, if not loose, in these mounts and can fly out on rough ground. I solved that problem by using tiny steel radiator clamps with the plastic wing handle and piece of rubber material. This provided enough friction to keep the posts secure. These Catrike flag mounts were not really designed well.
I also did not like where the mounts were located near the rear hub because of how the mounts caused the flag posts to bow out and around my trunk bag. One day while in a bike repair shop I noticed that a customer had moved the flag mounts to the bracket on the back of the seat (550). I noticed there are two small holes on the seat recline bracket. I moved mine up there also which raised the flags several inches as well.

Hole is 0.236" (6mm). While there is nothing wrong with your solution, I believe you are overthinking it. 5 minutes with the file on my Gerber multitool that is always with me, just rotating the pole by hand and working outdoors, worked just fine. And at 6mm I have no problem with the pole coming out; it is an interference fit.

I got the Terracycle flag mount - available in either size opening, and uses a rubber grommet to prevent pole jumping out. Still working on best mount position. Until then, I added a rubber grommet (cheap Lowe’s part) to the Catrike Mount.

a Rubber O-Ring on the top and bottom of the pole sandwiching bracket helps out as well.

I just got my CatTrike in March of this year. The dealer has the smaller flag pole that fits perfectly in the pole bracket. I just discovered that regular fiberglass poles are larger. Has anyone ever written to the flag pole companies or to CatTrike and tell them about this design failure? Seems Catrike should have known about this!
