- In this scene, the jewish parents are freaking out because their daughters sicilian husband (who lives with them) is out all night. We get to see one of liottas infamous laughs

RIP to such a wonderful actor
Came to like the comment ended up liking the reply too. Well played JR
The dad was the best actor in the whole Scorsese Universe
The old man's on the couch with that "please let me die" expression.
Edit: March 2023 - Thanks for all the ups, folks.

It's a look most married men will inevitably get.
Thats Morts Mother i bet
I make that face weekly ..daily at some points...youre right
*"THE MAN HASNT BEEN ABLE TO DIGEST A DECENT MEAL IN 6 WEEKS"* Says the person who probably cooked all those meals.

he is thinking: Kill me, Kill me, Kill me....
That quote cracks me up everytime for some reason
Tommy mocking Henry always cracked me up lol
Always found that hilarious 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
“What The Fuck kind of people are they!” 😂😂😂
@@Exploretheearthh I would have kicked Tommy's ass into his black and blue it's bad enough you got to come home to that shit and then your friends make fun of you the Wonder you need a drink. Forget about it
sitdowndogbreath that’s embarrassing, I can’t have Tommy around my Jew wife’s family making fun of them
@WalkingPromissoryNote 1963 you might have a point a lot of my friends mothers would like her
It's hard for me tell when Karen's mother's yelling stops and Tommy's yelling starts
You see, if Tommy's mother had been like Karen's mother, maybe he wouldn't have been such a bad guy. He got no discipline growing up!
Lmaoooooo
Same here. First few times I saw this part, I thought he was telling Karen's mother to shut up instead of Tommy (and I wish he had since Karen's mother was a nagging bitch who drove her own husband to chronic indigestion)
My comment was in response to the OP.
Ok, let me explain this to you then. Karen's mother didn't care about Henry or even her own daughter. She was pissed b/c she was a control freak and it pissed her off that she couldn't control Henry and his actions like she had been doing with her daughter and her husband.
Martin Scorsese doesn't get enough credit for how funny his films are.
MikeMJPMUNCH facts this shit and wolf of Wall Street had me dying throughout
Terrific director
Funny how? What´s so funny about it?

Henry: "Haha...haha...shaddup...haha hahahaha...!" 😂😂
It was a genuine LOL of complete power as he knew he could just walk away
He's all like "Man, those people... those friggin' people! Stay here with Mommy and Daddy, Karen. If this is the way it's gonna be, then I'm going back out on the town to play some more! I'll just go get some lay with my druggie girlfriend. She's better at sex than you anyway, wifey"!!!
"The man hasn't digested a decent meal in six weeks." That's the most jewish phrase I've ever heard.
BennyNeb if I were him, I'd be praying for death. Living with that annoying hag.
And who cooked those meals that he was unable to digest??
Next to kill Jesus lol
@@sickofguysnamedtodd2293 Probably why he hasn’t digested a meal.
The husband got that "I'm too old for this shit" expression. 😂

In ten years of marriage, I've only met my mother-in-law once. Proof that God loves me.
hahahaha seriously? how do you pull that off?
ladistar He bought her from a small Cambodian village

drgoldfoot60 you lucky lucky bastard
That's actually messed up how much men hate their mothers in law. How is that funny?
I love how Henry doesn’t say a word and just walks off! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wish I saw this footage much earlier in my marriage.
He’s probably gonna say something until Karen mom shouts
😭💀
He just walked away my man
At some point in life you learn that there is literally nothing you can say that makes it any better. On the contrary, every word you utter at that point is just fuel to the fire. Not saying anything and leaving till they calm down was the wisest move he could've made.
The laughing was not so smart tho :)
This woman bodied this scene. she had less than a minute and a half of acting and she annoyed the crap outta me. and this scene sticks out because of her. Bravo!!!!
She secured her place as the mother in law of mob cinema.
Just shows how good of an actress she is.
What amazed me was how well Pesci imitated her to mock Henry.
She’s Tony Sopranos Mother in law also. Perfect casting.
SAME she annoyed the hell out of me too. 💯
It just occured to me that Tommy waited to see if Henry was able to get inside, like a good friend should, instead of just taking off after he gets out of the car.
That's brotherhood right there
Its weird looking at the comments realizing how many people completely misunderstand these movies
Henry probably just told Tommy to wait because he knew Karen’s mom was going to whine. It’s the Italian American mafia dude this isn’t about friendship it’s about making money lol.
Wait... people don't normally do this?
@@sergiomendoza4850 to the movie's credit, this tommy is a far better person than the real one, He maybe a murdering psychopath but he is sincere to henry.

Karen's mom in Goodfellas was also Carmella's mom in the Sopranos.
And she was an annoying old hag in that too :D
Brian Kabaker also in trees lounge
Several GoodFellas cast members (Frank Vincent, Tony Sirico, Michael Imperioli, Lorraine Braco, actor who portrayed Sonny the restauranteur...Lorenzo something or other) make appearances in the Sopranos. David Chase is a big fan of this cinematic masterpiece
"The hoods all drove those. They beat you up that time remember at City Island?"
@@theoriginalmrjguill3803 You're wrong! Jews are awesome!
Got to admit -- Karen’s mother is one hell of an actress. She played this part to perfection.
I swear in such a phenomenal movie, with countless classic moments, Henry's classic "fuck this" walkaway just may be my favorite one.
I miss Ray Liotta 😥
Tommy taking the piss was just too funny. My sides were hurting. LMAO!
dude ...what do u mean ...Tommy was in the fuckin car ....
What the hell?! Taking a piss?!? I thought American slang was bad, but at least American slang one can decipher without having to Google it.
mr x He wrote taking *the* piss not taking *a* piss. I guess being an American you're a bit too much of an isolationist to understand anything outside your own borders
+mr x Taking the piss means that you take something horrible and make it funny. Piss is considered horrible, so taking the piss would be taking the horrible thing away. For example (And you Americans are truly gonna hate me for this but I have a point on that.) Let's say you have a horrible event like 9/11 it's all bad, people died it made people scared for a decade in a half. But then some genius show or comedian, like South Park, makes a funny episode that people needed to laugh at to relieve the tension you got from such an event. They are taking the piss from 9/11. In this movie's case, Henry and Tommy are taking the piss from a serious (If not over dramatic) freak out of Karen's mom.
Oh you Brits sure are sensitive, and before you go insulting Americans & America realize that you are our colony. You do whatever we want, from dying to keep gasoline (what you call petrol) cheap for us to supporting Israel. So you don't have any standing..You are our colony.
She's definitely the reason why the dad never had fun
I'm surprised they even had their daughter together
The fact that it's Dr. Melfi and Carmela Soprano's mom yelling at Ray Liotta, and the way he laughs it off, straight boss status LMFAO
Karen wasn’t yelling at him.
Even crazier when you realise David Chase at one point wanted Lorraine Bracco to play Carmela Soprano
@@razorclaus9898 he did and she auditioned for it but then felt trying to play Melfi wound be more of a theatrical challenge
And now it's Dr Melfi and Carmella's mom yelling at Chrissy's grandfather.
There is something about the part where Karen and her mother get up from chair together to open the front door , I love it .
It's realistic
yeah the dog barks and then they get up
Right before they get up too. Like you wonder how long they were just sitting there not talking and waiting lol
My daughter tells me you're half Jewish?
Only the good half!
Guess he doesn't have a good half. Henry is half Italian and half Irish.
Really. Must of missed that the 800 times I watched the movie. And to think, this whole time, I thought he was telling Karen's mom the truth!. God bless you Emanresuadeen for opening up my eyes!
madmick17 Eh. It's a comment on the line, not you personally. Seems a sly way for Henry to say he's "all bad". I think you'll agree with that!

This is probably my favourite scene from this film :) SO funny and accurate and awkward...just fantastic!
There are so many golden moments from Goodfellas, but this is definitely a winner.
This scene and his laugh will live forever. RIP brother
And Tommy like the good friend he is, bust Henry's ball some more 🤣🤣🤣
The way Tommy imitated Karens mother always made me laugh so hard lmao
12 years later and I come back to this scene, Tommy mocking the mother is always a casual
That Tommy's outburst in the end is just hillarious
LOL! poor karens dad is forced to stay up all night
I love the way the mother's voice synchronizes and blends into Joe Pesci's voice
The most annoying thing about the mother is that she's absolutely right about everything.
Cap
It’s Henry’s quick decision to walk back and laugh that makes me crack up.
It always cracks me up how the Mom immediately gets off the couch when they hear the car in the driveway:)
Liotta's laugh is LEGENDARY.
Best scene in the film for sure.
Great scene. The actress playing the mom is excellent-- she completely reminds me of several elderly aunts. Totally rings true.
1:10 MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!! crack me up every time!
RIP (Nov. 2023) to Suzanne Shepherd for making this scene so memorable!!! I rewatch this scene just for your brilliance.
"HE'S NOT JEWISH!!" Lol, Karen's mother reminds me of my grandmother.
“Do you know how these people live?!
Did you know what they were like?!
In reality, Jewish and Italian families aren’t too dissimilar. Yelling-based culture. Some element of neuroticism. Parents are VERY involved in their kids lives (to the point of being overbearing) Religion, at least in the in the older generations was a big deal. The joke goes: Jews and Italians, same corporation, different divisions
@@tomzadvydas1758 Irish as well?
@@marktaylor6491 maybe. At least Italians and Irish lived very close together in New York in the 40’s 50’s 60’s
Yeah, I'm from that world-- Jewish Long Islander-- and had the same reaction. Karen's mother totally rings true for me-- she reminds me of my grandmother and other elderly aunts. Great actress.
I can see why he's able to digest a normal meal
Journey well, Mr. Ray Liotta. Phenomenal Actor. I absolutely love him ❤
I still miss him :'-(
In the book Henry got along good with his in-laws. They asked Henry and Karen to stay with them seeing how they were still teenagers at the time. He cooked with them and stayed up watching tv with them. They got the son they never had and he got the stability of normal parents. Of course, Karen, being the wife, saw Henry happy as a clam and couldnt have none of that, so she started feuding with her mom and nagging Henry for a new place to live.
Happens in a lot of families. Wife wants to be in control after marriage of a household
@@tomzadvydas1758 I swear to God, used to date this great girl back when we were seniors in highschool, we never had a problem and the sex was fantastic, but the moment her family started liking me and wanting me around she got a stick up her ass out of nowhere and wanted me to stay away from them. 8 years later and I'm still confused as hell as to what her deal was
@@dootmcsploot4180 hey if you find out lemme know cuz i might get married in a few years time. Would be a good reference point
Personally, I think they cast the parents too old here. They seem more like retired grandparents, I'd swear they're in their 60s.
@@Skank_and_Gutterboy that’s how it was back then, though. I look at pictures of people in the 1980s who look like they’re in their 50s but they’re really just in their late 30s 😂 People used to look a lot older than we’re used to
That's funny when Henry just walks away like 'nope' 😄
1:14 LOL Henry's expression is priceless. HAHAHA
It's the insight into the culture behind the main story and the world building that makes Scorsese brilliant. This overbearing Jewish mother is so well drawn. You can see how his characters get shaped, especially the psychopaths. The Departed was also great in this way.
I can see the Sopranos auditions now:
"I was in Goodfellas-"
"you're in the show"
"He's NAHT JEWISH"
The look on Ray Liota’s face and the way he laughs walking away is fucking priceless. How did he NOT get nominated for this movie?
Tommy kinda sounds like Karen's mom XD
He was mocking her

Potty The Parrot classic Jewish mother in law lol
If I had the ability to just turn around and walk away like Henry does in this scene I would have saved myself so many headache inducing confrontations.
NORMAL PEOPLE DON'T ACT LIKE THIS!!!! LOL best line in the whole movie!!!!
Yep. This is the reason why I say practically all the cast of Goodfellas held their own on a equal scale. They all either had funny or engaging dialogue.
I Lose it every time I hear her say that😅🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅🤣😂
Just love how he looks at both of them for a second, then turns and walks away.
I don't know if it's just me, but this scene is so incredibly funny for me, that mother is something else, and gotta love henry just saying "nope" to himself and started walking back tf away xD
Henry's response should've been

“The man hasn’t been able to digest a decent meal in six weeks” this part always gets me 😭😭
I suspect he was on a hunger strike seeking emancipation from his wife by petitioning Amnesty International for help.
