  • Many from across the country gathered at Pukehinahina Battle site, which was said to be Māori’s most successful battle against the crown. Today marks 159 years since the Pukehinahina Battle, but descendants say it’s important to keep instilling the knowledge of the Māori land wars into future generations. Timoti Tiakiwai with more.

Rawe! Great to see the victorious battle against the British Empire Army commemorated, and the ongoing history of anti-colonial fighting from the deep history of Tauranga Moana and others. Great work Charlie and team. Great to see this event publicised, as it should be across all Maori, Pakeha and other media. This is the real history of our country.
