- Here's an edition of the ABC Evening News with Harry Reasoner and Barbara Walters as aired over WLS Channel 7. This was from not long after Roone Arledge took over as President of ABC News, and began a transition of presentation that culminated in the rollout next July of World News Tonight. (It was also three months to the day after the commencement of the second New York City blackout - and one day before the death of legendary entertainer Bing Crosby.)

Newscast open (voiceover by Bill Rice), with preview of major four stories (voiceovers by Sam Donaldson, Geraldo Rivera, Dan Cordtz and Barbara Walters), and items:
- Sam Donaldson on President Carter's attack on oil companies in attempt to drum up support for his energy policies [Note: about 30 seconds of the report had to be edited out to prevent Copyright issues], followed by Don Farmer at Senate with remarks from Sens. Russell Long (D-LA), Howard Baker (R-TN) and Henry Jackson (D-WA), and Roger Peterson with reactions from oil industry executives Hill Bonin (Gulf Oil) and John Swearingen (Standard of Indiana a.k.a. Amoco - massive tracking issues during his segment)
- Carter continues to emphasize urban blight problem in wake of his visit to South Bronx; James Walker reports on one apartment building that fell big-time to neglect, with a sad tale of the last resident known as Pearlie

Love this! Any ABC Newscast pre 1980 especially pre July 1978 is always appreciated :). ABC News back then was super underrated and despite the low budgets they were always the most well rounded in terms of presentation. You got pure news and not nothing fancy. That's the way news should be.

Harry Reasoner fumed because Baba's ABC contract was highly publicized: a cool million for someone with an infamous speech impediment, whereas Harry was a real newsman.
Barbara Walters was just a gossip queen.
If Reasoner stayed at CBS, he might have succeeded Cronkite instead of Rather and he makes more money with 60 Minutes.
Energy Crisis. Where have I heard that before? Never let a crisis go to waste....and if you don't have a crisis, make one out of an isolated incident and get every news outlet to sing in harmony.😂
I love anything that uses words strung together as well as this and ending it with "_sing in harmony_" was like the icing on the cake.

By this point, the animosity between Reasoner and Walters was so deep that there were no more shots of them appearing together. Only in isolated shots where they might as well have been in other cities.

I’ve had some bad days but never considered smoking any angel dust 😂 I saw some local losers smokin some outside my house when I was a teenager & they were acting so weird . Paranoid , emotionally unstable and hallucinating. Didn’t look like fun.

The time varied so much between markets that ABC promos always said it aired "at the dinner hour" without giving a time.
In Tampa, it aired at 6:00 in the '70s.
