  • In this video I talk about a loaner track wheelchair that is provided for use at several state parks in the state of Michigan, USA. This power chair rides on rolling tracks similar to a tank. It is extremely versatile and can handle sand, small obstacles and sloped surfaces without a problem. It allows anyone that is wheelchair bound or has limited mobility the option to explore the beach and other off-road surfaces without the need of an able bodied person to push! The best part is it is FREE to use! More information regarding available beach locations in Michigan can be found at mymichiganbeach.com/ada.

    That's nice to know about Michigan. Almost every county in Wisconsin (not State Parks) has one available free of charge (donations accepted), and usually you can get it for a full day, if not a full weekend. This year, I got one that was like a sit-to-stand and so I actually got to put my feet into Lake Michigan. You can put the track chair in 5" of water, just don't let the water hit any of the electronics.

      @@twistedpipes04 Depending on the circumstances insurance is beginning to cover the purchase of these chairs, is a wellness of life I think is what they call it. Plus there are grants and other possibilities to help cover the cost, my chair 4 years ago cost $18,000 and it didn't cost me anything.It never hurts to call and talk with them.

    Wow- What a great video. You touched on so many important usability features - including speed. There are so many beaches and state parks in Michigan really upping their games in terms of accessibility. We try to include as much information as possible in our travel posts, and appreciate any tips and reviews of accessible beaches and trails. Thanks again for this video- it's awesome!

    I'm paralyzed and I have a four wheel drive powerchair that has tires like those on a quadrunner only smaller. It has a seat with power tilt and elevate. I use it for deer hunting here in Ohio. It does great in the woods. I've taken it through deep mud with no trouble. It can go over smaller logs that are across trails in the woods. The only problem is it tips over sometimes and that's a big problem. It's does great on level ground, not so great on hills and it's hilly where I hunt. A powerchair like the one in this video is what I really need. I seriously doubt this one could tip over going up and down hills. I want one of these so bad. They start at almost $15,000. I paid $15,000 four years ago for the powerchair I've got and it was a older model that had been used a little.

      Hey bud! The company that makes this is called Action Trackchair. This is their ST model. I was looking around their website and they even have standing track chairs. They are able to customize colors and options too. They aren’t cheap - this one comes in just under $12k but considering the price of all other mobility equipment that seems about right. It’s definitely worth checking out - oh and fist bump for fellow Ohioan! 😉

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  Před 3 lety +1

      It really wasn’t too bad. They removed the foot plate and tilted it forward a little. Then the armrest was able to be lifted up to make it easier to hop over.

  • @grantkitson5344

    Why the need for a strap for your feet, if you don't have trouble with spasms? I would have just tilted back and enjoyed the sun! Would your wife have carried you to the water, if you didn't have this?

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  Před 3 lety +1

      Even though I don’t have a lot of spasms my feet still tend to fall off my normal footplate if I hit a bump. The strap just insures I don’t have to worry about that happening. I almost lost a foot riding a 4 wheeler one time so better safe than sorry lol. I have another video showing how I get down to the shoreline in a normal chair. In the past I’ve just gotten a hand from friends/family to get in the water. I don’t think my wife could swing it on her own but she has helped.
